7 GENERAL This supplement must be attached to the Aircraft Maintenance Manual when the aircraft is equipped with the EngineAir Intake Filter P/N BA-162-E as per MOD.P68/50 or as per Service Bulletin No It provides the instructions for ContinuedAirworthiness of the Filter element P/N BA-162-E. 8 1. DESCRIPTION (Refer to fig. 1-1) The Engine Air Intake Filter Element P/N BA-162-E is a flexible polyurethane foam. It must be replaced at the intervals indicated in Chapter 3 of this supplement. Once a filter is contaminated, it is no longer airworthy and must necessarily be replaced with a new one. Refer to Fig. 1-1 for the Engine Air Intake Assembly. 9 2. MAINTENANCE PRACTICES (Refer to Fig. 1-1) 2.1. REMOVAL OF ENGINE AIR FILTER a) Remove the two screws securing the grill and remove the grill; b) Withdraw the filter element INSTALLATION OF ENGINE AIR FILTER a) Install the filter element in the air box. Be sure that the filter element fits perfectly against the inner walls of the air box to insure a good seal; b) Reinstall the grill using the two screws previously removed. Page 2-1

10 3. INSPECTIONS 3.1. GENERAL The filter element P/N BA-162-E should be inspected in accordance with the instructions contained in this chapter. Additional inspections may be required by applicable Airworthiness Directives. It is the owner s responsibility to ensure compliance with these directives. 3.2 PREFLIGHT INSPECTION Pre-flight inspections are the responsibility of the pilot in command of the aircraft and the procedures for the Engine Air Intake Filter P/N BA-162-E are detailed in the pertinent section of the applicable Flight Manual for aircraft variant. Replace the filter if damaged or if the face of the element is 50% contaminated. 3.3 INSPECTION CHARTS No scheduled inspections are recommended for the filter element P/N BA-162-E. However it is recommended to perform the inspections indicated in table 3-1 hereunder at the replacement intervals for the filter element and at any occurrence of engine start-up backfire as detailed below. TABLE 3 1 INSPECTION CHARTS NATURE OF INSPECTION 1. ENGINE AIR INTAKE SYSTEM Inspect all components for security, wear and any deformation INSPECTION INTERVALS At replacement intervals for filter P/N BA-162-E (Refer to Paragraph 3.4 of this Chapter) 2. ENGINE START-UP BACKFIRE INSPECTION Inspect the entire air intake system for security and damage. In this case the inner surface of the foam element will show charring. Replace any damaged element. At any occurrence of an engine start-up backfire Page 3-1

11 3.4 SERVICE LIFE LIMITS The following Replacement Schedule must be added to the existing Overhaul and Replacement Schedule contained in Section B, paragraph 3.6 of the Basic Aircraft Maintenance Manual. OVERHAUL AND REPLACEMENT SCHEDULE I. Every 100 flight hours or 1 year whichever occurs first. NOTE THE INDICATED REPLACEMENT LIMIT ARE SUBJECT TO ANY CHANGE PROPOSED BY PERTINENT MANUFACTURERS AND APPROVED BY THE LOCAL AIRWORTHINESS AUTHORITY. Overhaul and replacement schedule shows the intervals at which the Filter element P/N BA-162-E must be replaced. SYSTEM COMPONENT OVERHAUL ENGINE GROUP: 1.
