2 JFETIGER-TP-M-101 (Rev.2) Page-1 1 SCOPE This section describes the field inspection requirements for JFETIGER pin and box threads. 2 PIN THREAD INSPECTION Tools and gauges required for field inspection may vary depending on particular situations, but for most running and pulling operations the following equipment is sufficient: Depth Gauge (Pit gauge) Fine Tooth Triangle File (Small) Emery Cloth The pin thread inspection criteria and action is shown in Fig. 1. Inspection is conducted visually and by touch of hands, and any required repairs to the connection should be conducted in accordance with the requirements of Fig.1. Slight burrs or damage to threads can be removed with emery cloth and moderate damage can be repaired with file and followed with emery cloth. There are two types of pin end, swaged and un-swaged. (no steel wire) brush or emery cloth Deeper than 0.004" (0.1mm) Cut off & re-thread C No pitting acceptable If present then cut off & repair Light surface corrosion (Rust) Hand repair with Scotch Brite or #400 emery cloth DO NOT ALTER SEAL DIMENSION. Repair should be made in a larger area than actual surface corrosion and should move around the diameter of seal. Burr, Tear, Ding, Mash, Scratch A, B, D All surfaces Any condition which could cause galling, i.e., conditions described greater than 0.01" (0.3mm) Hand repair with a fine triangle file or emery cloth. Repair should be made in a larger area than actual effected area and should move around the diameter of thread. Otherwise reject. C Not acceptable If present then cut off & rethread Bead peen if not present Bead Peening A, B, C, D Inspect for peened surface If previously made up some normal wear is expected and acceptable

DO NOT ALTER SEAL DIMENSION. Repair should be made in a larger area than actual surface corrosion and should move around the diameter of seal. Grind to round bottom & smooth edge. Keep within JFETIGER tolerances Hand repair with a fine triangle file or emery cloth. Repair should be made in a larger area than actual effected area and should move around the diameter of thread. Otherwise reject B Not acceptable A, B, C Must be present Phosphate coat if not present Inspect for medium gray surface color. If previously made up some normal wear is expected and acceptable A, B, C Inspect for CLEAR-PLATE surface. If previously made up some normal wear is expected and acceptable Reject or re-plate. *Note: Definition of High chrome steel : Containing 9% or more chrome steel.
