3 SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS SAFETY OPERATNG INSTRUCTIONS Any mobile soda blasting unit will produce a powerful flow of abrasive particles. To avoid personal injury and property damage, study this manual thoroughly before assembling, operating or servicing this mobile soda blasting unit. During operation, do not expose the hands or skin directly in the line of the blast nozzle. Ensure all components seal properly after assembly. Do not exceed the maximum operating pressure of the blasting equipment. Disconnect the soda blaster from the air supply before changing accessories or attempting to install, service, relocate or perform any maintenance. Check hoses and air lines for weak or worn condition before each use. Make sure all the connections are secure before use. Do not point the soda blaster gun at anyone or objects. Before operating this equipment, consider the availability and proximity of the required air supply. Always wear personal protective gear. Fire or Explosion Hazard! DO NOT USE a media blaster around combustible or flammable liquids, dusts, gases, oily rags, or other materials that can explode or burn quickly. Some abrasives create sparks when they hit metal. Abrasives similar to aluminium oxide may generate static electricity sparks which may cause fires or explosions in an unsafe environment. 4 ASSEMBLY, OPERATION & PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE 1. FEATURES The Tradequip mobile soda blasting unit is lightweight and portable. Pressurised soda blasting is an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional abrasive blasting. A nondestructive method for many applications in cleaning, paint stripping, automotive restoration, industrial equipment maintenance, rust removal, graffiti removal, masonry cleaning/restoration, soot remediation, boat hull cleaning and food processing equipment cleaning. Also effective for mould and fire/smoke damage cleanup as it cleans and deodorises. Recommended media is Sodium Bicarbonate. 2. ASSEMBLY - Loading Abrasive 1. Pull back on the blue Quick Disconnect Safety Valve (7) collar and pull out air Hose (10). 2. Hold collar on Tank (1) with a wrench and use another wrench to loosen Bushing (13). (wrenches not included.) 3. Remove entire media discharge assembly slowly, being careful with the Pickup Tube (11) as it may contain residual media which can spill when removed. Allow time for the trapped aggregate to safely discharge back into the Tank(1). 4. Using a funnel and screen (sold separately), pour media into the Tank(1). 5. Inspect condition of the O-ring (12) at the bottom of the Bushing(13), and replace if damaged. 6. Insert the Pickup Tube(11) into the Tank(1) and tighten the Bushing. Do not over tighten. 7. Insert the Air Hose deep into the fitting. Release the collar. Note: If air leaks around the Air Hose, remove it, cut approximately a 6mm inch off and reattach it. 8. Turn on the compressor and set the regulator to the pressure recommended for this Soda Blaster (90 PSI). CAUTION! Do not exceed 90 psi. NOTE: Always use thread seal tape on all threaded (screw in) fittings. 3. BEFORE USE Prior to each use conduct a visual inspection checking for abnormal conditions, such as cracked welds, leaks, and damaged, loose, or missing parts. To protect your air compressor from damage it may receive from soda blasting Keep the air compressor in a separate area, or Position the air compressor up-wind of the soda blasting. 5 4. OPERATION Prior to each use conduct a visual inspection checking for abnormal conditions, such as cracked welds, leaks, and damaged, loose, or missing parts. WARNING! Wear approved safety goggles and an approved respirator under safety hood, and heavy-duty blast gloves, when operating the soda blaster. 1. To protect the compressor and its engine or motor from damage by abrasive or dust from abrasive blasting, keep the compressor upwind of the blaster or in a separate room. Close the Air Supply Valve, Abrasive Valve, and Throttle Valve, then connect and turn on the air supply. 2. Open the Air Valve. 3. Grip the Media Hose and Nozzle firmly, and point them at the start point. 4. Open the Media Valve completely to release the media. NOTICE: To prevent damage, only use the Media Valve to turn the flow on or off. Do not use it to adjust the flow rate. Only use the Media Regulator Knob to adjust the flow rate. 5. Spray the abrasive media onto the work material, moving the Nozzle from side to side. NOTE: The flow rate of the media may be irregular when first started. Provided the media is dry, the flow rate will normalize in approximately one minute. 6. Use Media Regulator Knob to adjust the media flow rate. 7. Adjust the Air Regulator to adjust the air flow and pressure. Do not set the pressure higher than 90 PSI. 8. If the Soda Blaster requires more force to accomplish the task, verify that the Soda Blaster receives sufficient, unobstructed airflow (CFM) and increase the pressure (PSI) output of the regulator up to the maximum air pressure rating of this Soda Blaster. 9. CAUTION! to prevent injury from tool or accessory failure: Do not exceed the Soda Blaster s maximum air pressure rating. If the Soda Blaster still does not have sufficient force at maximum pressure and sufficient airflow, then a larger Soda Blaster may be required. 10. If excessive air pressure is used, or Media Regulator becomes clogged, the Safety Valve may open, releasing air pressure. To correct: a. Shut OFF Air Valve. b. Adjust Air Regulator to below 90 PSI. c. Turn the Air Valve back on. d. If the problem happens again, detach the air supply and clean out the Media Regulator and Media Hose. To prevent accidents, close the Valves on the Soda Blaster, detach the air supply, safely discharge any residual air pressure in the Soda Blaster, and close the Valves again. Empty the Tank, and clean external surfaces of the Soda Blaster with clean, dry cloth. Then store the Soda Blaster indoors out of children s reach. 6 Health Considerations: Protect yourself and those around you from 'overspray'. Remember that your mobile sand blaster is shooting powerful spray of abrasive material Do not point it at yourself or anyone around you Always wear personal protective equipment Wear a filter or mask over your mouth when operating this unit. You will create a cloud of abrasive material and debris which is dangerous to inhale Remove, cover, and/or protect anything around you that might be damaged from direct or indirect contact with the abrasive spray or particles. 5. STORAGE This mobile soda blasting unit should always be stored in a dry indoor location on a level surface. Disconnect the air supply and empty the tank then clean all external surfaces with a clean, dry soft cloth. 6. MAINTENANCE Before opening the tank release the air pressure on the sand tank; Pull the pressure safety relief valve(17) and disconnect the air supply. Open and empty the tank Check for worn abrasive hose and fittings. The abrasive control valve, manifold and all parts after the abrasive is ejected from the tank are subject to rapid wear due to the flow of abrasive media. Check for leaks, blistering, bulging or thinness of the hose. Replace all parts which appear worn immediately. 7. SERVICE & REPAIR Any mobile soda blasting unit found damaged in any way, or found to be worn or operates abnormally should be removed from service until repaired by an authorised service agent. Owners and / or operators should be aware that repair of this product may require specialised equipment and knowledge. Only authorised parts, labels, decals shall be used on this equipment. Annual inspection of the mobile sandblasting unit is recommended and can be made by an authorised repair facility to ensure that your equipment is in optimum condition and that the equipment has the correct decals and safety labels specified by the manufacturer. 8 WARRANTY Tradequip products have been carefully tested and inspected before shipment and are guaranteed to be free from defective materials and workmanship for a period of 12 months from the date of purchase except where tools are hired out when the guarantee period is ninety days from the date of purchase. Should the machine develop any fault, please return the complete tool to your nearest authorised warranty repair agent or contact TQB Brands Pty Ltd Warranty team warranty@tqbbrands.com.au. If upon inspection it is found that the fault occurring is due to defective materials or workmanship, repairs will be carried out free of charge. This guarantee does not apply to normal wear and tear, nor does it cover any damage caused by misuse, careless or unsafe handling, alterations, accident, or repairs attempted or made by any personnel other than the authorised TQB Brands Pty Ltd repair agent. This guarantee applies in lieu of any other guarantee expressed or implied and variations of its terms are not authorised. Your TQB Brands Pty Ltd guarantee is not effective unless you can produce upon request a dated receipt or invoice to verify your proof of purchase within the 12 month period. Consumer Guarantee Our goods come with a guarantee that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if the goods fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure.
