2 It began with a needle: As early as 1785, WITTE started production of needles for the textile sector, for saddlers and shoemakers. Soon customers all over the world were being supplied. In the middle of the 19th century, WITTE was one of the first companies to recognise the meaning of automation. At about the end of the century, the company opened up a growing market segment which has characterised the company history to this day: WITTE changed to become a hand tool manufacturer. The high art of the screwdriver: In the 1950 s WITTE had made a name for itself as a tool manufacturer for the automotive and freight car industries. Then the company discovered the product which forms the backbone of the brand to this day: the screwdriver. Since then, nobody else has perfected it like WITTE - with the aid of constant innovation, the highest demands on ergonomics and materials and of course the best Made in Germany quality. 3
