5 Summary The number of operations with cattle totaled million during 3, down 2 percent from 2 and 3 percent below. Beef cow operations in 3 were down 2 percent from 2 and 3 percent below. Milk cow operations were 5 percent below last year and 3 percent below two years ago. The three operation classes: cattle, beef cows, and milk cows, are classified into size groups independently. Therefore, it is possible to have more beef cow operations in a particular size group than cattle operations. As an example, an operator with 75 cattle and beef cows would be classified in the -99 size group for cattle and -49 size group for beef cows. The number of operations with hogs totaled 73,600 during 3, down 3 percent from 2 and 9 percent from. Places with or more head accounted for 77 percent of the inventory. The number of operations with sheep totaled 67,620 during 3, down percent from 2 and. Of all sheep operations that include breeding sheep, 92.2 percent were comprised of -99 head, 6.3 percent had head, and the remaining percent were operations with 0 head or more. Operations with -99 head account for 3.7 percent of the inventory, head account for percent of the inventory, and 0+ head account for 46.3 percent of the inventory. April 4 NASS, DA
