Donaldson are a leading manufacturer of commercial vehicle filtration and have a long history in the Australian market. The Australian fixed body commercial vehicle population is dominated by the Japanese brands of Hino, Isuzu and Mitsubishi - although European brands Iveco and Mercedes Benz are growing their share. Our focus has been on pulling together a comprehensive range to suit these Japanese and European vehicles in particular. One of the real challenges faced by Repco in putting this commercial vehicle filter program together was creating a catalogue for our staff and our customers. This market segment relies on OE sourcing by VIN number or cross referencing from OEM or alternate brand part numbers. After 18 months of dedicated research Repco have developed a catalogue that suits the way our customers like to order and the way our staff find the right part. As is always the case in replacing parts, it is critical that the Donaldson filter dimensions are checked against the filter that it is replacing. Fitment of an incorrect filter can lead to substantial engine damage. Donaldson air filters incorporate the latest in media technology using patented nanofibre technology on select element ranges. Donaldson air filtration technology protects engines, delivers longer filter life and gives you the confidence that comes with using the industry leader s products. Beading Air filters are used to protect engines from dust, dirt and other dangerous particles. Engines must be protected from contaminants to prevent early engine wear and reduce maintenance costs. Using air cleaners will decrease oil and fuel consumption and will increase the efficiency and the life of the engine. The Heavy-duty liners are corrosion resistant, the coated steel liners support the filter media during operation and maximize airflow. Axial filter seals The Beading is applied to both inner and outer liners and designed to stabilize the media. The Metal filter end caps are designed to protect the filter media and provide structural integrity. RadialSeal filters slip easily on and off the outlet tube during installation and service Pleatloc TM media spacing RadialSeal was invented by Donaldson and has become an industry standard. It is a specific sealing technology that helps eliminate the chances of leaks. A good seal is required between the air filter and the filter housing to guarantee the purity of air behind the filter element. The critical seal in Donaldson Radialseal filters is made using a special kind of polyurethane. It keeps its flexibility and original shape after long hours of twisting under heavy operational conditions. Filter end caps Axial seal filters - Strong, pliable gasket ensures a leak-free seal when properly installed. The gasket won t harden or deteriorate over the useful life of the filter. Pleat loc media spacing ensures uniform pleat spacing, keeps filter media from bunching during operation and promotes longer filter service life. 4 5

5 CHANGING OUT YOUR DONALDSON AIR FILTER INSTALLING RADIAL SEAL FILTERS Step 1: Gently remove the dirty filter from the housing Step 2: Always clean the inside of the housing with a damp rag, paying particular attention to the gasket sealing area & outlet tube Donaldson RadialSeal technology represents the latest in contemporary filter design. RadialSeal filters are easily identifiable as they feature urethane end caps. Instructions If you re servicing the safety filter, this should be seated into position before installing the primary filter. Step 3: Make sure the gasket on your new filter springs back promptly Step 4: Also, run the heel of your hand around the gasket to check for any hidden flaws Insert the new filter carefully. Seat the filter by hand, making certain it is completely into the air cleaner housing before securing the filter in place. RadialSeal is a special sealing design that makes filters self-aligning and self-sealing during installation. The critical sealing area will stretch slightly, adjust itself and distribute the sealing pressure evenly. To complete a tight seal, apply pressure by hand at the outer rim of the filter, not the flexible center. (Avoid pushing on the centre of the urethane end cap.) No cover pressure is required to hold the seal. NEVER use the service cover to push the filter into place! Using the cover to push the filter in could cause damage to the housing and cover fasteners. When Fitting a Donaldson Filter: DO NOT knock the filter against a hard surface to clean it. Step 5: Check all Hose Clamps & Rubber Components for tension & holes This may cause damage to filter. 6 7

6 Donaldson manufactures a wide range of spin on liquid filters to handle fuel, oil/lube and coolants. Many engine manufacturers have different filtration performance specifications based on the operating environment of the engine. Donaldson manufactured engine liquid filters will perform in the most demanding environments. Donaldson liquid filters are technology driven with features and options to enhance performance in specific applications. It is during the design process Donaldson engineers match this performance with over 26 grades of liquid filter medias. Donaldson s complete line of liquid filters are designed to: Increase engine protection by cleaning the liquid before it reaches the engine Extend service intervals and reduce operating costs Increases optimum fuel efficiency The Donaldson Technology Advantage LIQUID FILTRATION Thread Plate The tapered thread profile makes Donaldson filters easy to install with almost no chance of cross threading. Fully tucked seams attach the thread plate to the housing can for strength and durability. Rolled threads give a cleaner thread profile, reduces risk of swarth contamination and you get a more positive thread engagement this tapered thread profile simplifies installation and prevents cross threading. The seal between the thread plate and end plate is constructed of moulded elastomer which is designed for extreme cold and heat. Competitive brands use paper, cork or plastic spacer materials that do not last the service life of the filter. Housing Can Heavy-duty, coated shell, rounded dome and corner radius give Donaldson filters superior pressure fatigue performance. Filters with wrench flats or sharp radius edges will crack sooner than the Donaldson filter. Filter Cartridge Donaldson has design and manufacturing experience with both metal (traditional) and metal-free cartridge filters. The filter media is fastened mechanically with a metal clip. Competitive spin on brands use a glue seam which is more susceptible to deterioration during operation. Donaldson curing process adds strength to the filter media and ensures that filter bypass does not occur. The media is cured while the media is flat, which ensures consistent and even curing. Centre Tube The Donaldson louvered centre tube and spiral lock seam design allows more flow area with greater collapse strength. The louvers all face the centre of the filter, keeping the media side surface smooth, which eliminates pleat tip wear. Gaskets Oil, fuel and hydraulic fluids have their own unique chemical properties. Donaldson makes sure the right materials are used and the right shape to fit the mounting head or housing. In spin-on filters, the inner seal between the thread plate and filters cartridge is critical. Inner Seals In spin-on filters, the inner seal between the thread plate and filter cartridge is another critical seal. Donaldson filters use a moulded elastomer seal. 7 FITTING DONALDSON SPIN ON OIL FILTERS THE CORRECT WAY TO INSTALL SPIN ON FILTERS Spin-on Filter pre-install check THREADS All threads should be inspected prior to installation Are they correctly machined & free of debris? Debris may enter the engine and cause engine damage. Debris can also cause damage to the mounting thread on the engine and or the filters thread. Step 1: Remove old filter from engine. Check the threads on the filter to make sure they are correctly formed. It is critical that the replacement filter dimensions are checked against the removed filter. Fitment of an incorrect filter can lead to substantial engine damage. GASKET Inspect gasket before installation. Is it correctly fitted & not cut or damaged? A damaged seal can result in oil leakage and therefore engine oil starvation. In serious cases Oil starvation can cause major engine damage. Step 2: First make sure the gasket is correctly in position, then apply a thin layer of fuel or oil - DO NOT USE GREASE If you prefer to prefill the filter with fluid before you install, make sure you do so via the inlet holes only, NOT the clean side of the filter. CAN Inspect the can for damage to the outer shell. Make sure it is not damaged, if so don t use it! A damaged can may have an effect on oil flow, the ability of the filter to seal against the engine while also possibly causing damage to the media or center tube. Never use a filter with a damaged outer can. Steps 3 & 4: Spin the filter onto the head until the gasket first comes into contact with the sealing surface, THEN tension by hand to the recommended number of turns shown on the filter. NOTE: There are different tensions for some filter groups. Filter Inspect filter before installation. Does it look like the filter you are replacing? Place new and old filters side by side to compare. The symbols you see on Donaldson spin-on filters need to be interpreted correctly. Do not use wrenches to install filters as damage may occur that could affect your filter s life

8 AIR FILTRATION GLOSSARY Airflow Requirements Air is critical to the operation of an engine. The amount of air required by the engine depends on the type of engine, if it has a turbocharger, and the horsepower rating. The engine airflow requirement is set and given by the engine manufacturer. Single-Stage Air Cleaner A single-stage air cleaner is a dust removing system for intake air with a filter and no pre-cleaner. Two-Stage Air Cleaner A two-stage air cleaner uses both a built-in pre-cleaner and a filter to remove dust from intake air. Primary Filter The primary filter is the filter in the air cleaner that removes around 99.9+% of the air s dust. The air flows through the primary filter first. Safety () Filter The safety filter is an optional filter that protects the engine during servicing of the primary filter and in case of a leak in the primary filter. RadialSeal Radial Seal refers to filter sealing technology that uses the urethane end cap and the cleaner s outlet tube to create the seal. This has become the preferred method of sealing over older axial seal designs. Axial Seal The axial seal sealing method requires a force between an air filter and air cleaner that provides enough compression on the gasket between the parts to create the seal. Filter Media Filter media is the material in the filter that removes the contaminant. Filter media is made from cellulose, synthetic, and various combinations and blends of fibres combined with resins to keep the fibres together Dust Concentration Dust concentration expresses the mass of dust in a specified volume of air. Typical ambient conditions are around 0.1 milligrams per cubic metre. Off-road conditions are around 100 milligrams per cubic metre. Check Valve This valve prevents the fuel from flowing back to tank causing fuel starvation. Filter Used for finer filtration LIQUID FILTRATION GLOSSARY Overall Efficiency Overall efficiency is the percentage of dust that the air cleaner with a filter removes from the intake air. Donaldson air cleaners, with a Donaldson air filter, have a % overall efficiency. Restriction Restriction represents the resistance to the flow of air through the air cleaner system. Typical units are inches of water (H20) or kilopascal (kpa). Air cleaners with clean filters should have restriction between 6-10 H20 or 1.5 and 2.5 kpa. Dust Capacity Dust capacity is the amount of contaminant that will be collected on a filter before a specified restriction level (as set by the manufacturer) is reached CFM CFM means cubic feet per minute. This is the unit of air flow measurement. An engine requires a flow of air for combustion
