2 RTI N NVIRONNT I-T Series III and IV The industry standard mil/ aero connector backed by lenair service and availability certified environmental and hermetic class I-T Series III and IV connectors are the most widely used and requested connectors within the milaero industry and for good reason. eveloped for reliability, the Series III triplestart thread prevents galling and cross-threading while providing quick disconnect, single-turn action to engage self-locking, metal-to-metal coupling. Series IV offers the industry s most robust mating with a 90 degree quarter-turn breech-lock mate with visual, tactile and audible engagement confirmation. The rugged construction of the Series IV disperses the mating force across a channeled metal flange while threaded mechanical force provides friction, locking the mates halves securely. oth series feature accessory threads and environmental sealing for reliable attachment of backshells. Scoop-proof shell design protects crimp-removable contacts from damage. 10 NVIRONNT N RTI SRIS 23 Space-grade uidelines Outgassing Space flight equipment requires low-outgassing components in order to prevent degradation to optics and other sensitive instruments. I-T connectors contain nonmetallic materials such as rubber, plastic, adhesives and potting compounds which can give off gasses when subjected to a vacuum or high heat. Unless the connector is specially processed, the T and V can exceed allowable limits. The space industry has adopted a standardized test procedure, ST 595, to evaluate outgassing properties. The I-T specification lass also details specific TV and V values. lenair's 186T modification code, for example, requires connectors and connector materials to be heated to 175 at a vacuum of 5 X 10-6 torr for 48 hours. similar process is used for hermetic connector to meet lass requirements. Items under test are then weighed to calculate the Total ass oss (T), which may not exceed 1.0% of the total initial mass. collector plate is used to determine the ollected Volatile ondensable aterial (V), which may not exceed 0.1% of the total original specimen mass. lenair is able to offer both NS as well as lass or bakeout processes which assure all materials comply with their respective standards. lenair is now also a Q supplier of Series IV, environmental, lass connectors. 11 OTS QUIVNT I-T Series III and IV lass (and NS screening) Space-grade application guidelines for commercial part numbers NS and lass and Screening The I-T specification defines T and V values for lass and space flight. lenair modification code 186T assures that our commercial parts are outgassed to meet the lass and lass requirements for outgassing dditionally NS recommends that connectors for space flight be specially screened. NS -INST-002 instructions for parts selection, screening, qualification, and derating contains three levels of screening for space-grade components.
