1 Axial fans 7 sees the introduction of a new production line at Xpelair s Peterborough plant for the Scimitar Sickle blade fans in Plate, Short Case and Roof versions up to 63mm. Scimitar will join an impressive line up of aerofoil section Rapier plate and short case axials now extending up to 1mm. For heavy duty applications the New Aerofoil Long Cased axials have all the rugged features you would expect: hot dip galvanised long cases, rolled flanges, heavy duty aluminium aerofoil section adjustable blades and a choice of blade angles and sizes from 315mm 125mm. The blade design optimises airflow performance whilst minimising sound levels. The blades are directly mounted to capacitor start and run external rotor motors and then dynamically balanced. The robust wall plate incorporates a bellmouth entry and four fixing points for simple installation. And for safety a roomside protective finger guard is fitted as standard. The Scimitar range can be installed at any angle and is fully speed controllable. Specification Fan Plate Pressed galvanised steel wall plate incorporating a full bellmouth and four fixing points. An inlet protection finger guard is a welded wire framework to DIN EN294. The assembly is treated with two coat plastic corrosion resistant paint to RAL 95 Black. Motor/ impeller Designed to form a compact aerodynamically efficient unit. The die cast aluminium alloy drive motor is a 1% variable-speed controllable external rotor motor which simultaneously constitutes the fan's hub ensuring the motor is effectively cooled by the passing airflow. Motors are either class B or F with protection to IP44 or IP54. The motors feature maintenance free ball bearings with high temperature grease for temperatures from -3ºC to a maximum of +7ºC (dependant on model). Sickle bladed impellers are pressed steel. The range has also been extended to include 4, 6 and 8 pole versions. Rapier plate fans are suitable for wall mounting and short duct in larger areas in commercial, agricultural and high performance industrial installations including kitchens, factories, garages and warehouses. The wall plate with bellmouth entry is manufactured in pressed steel with a corrosion resistant powder coated finish. For safety the front is protected by a robust finger guard. All Xpelair Rapier fans are fully speed controllable. They are suitable for installation in reverse operation with a reduction in performance. At the heart of the unit is a proven capacitor start and run Class F external rotor motor cast aluminium blade assembly. Long case axial units are used in a wide range of applications ranging from industrial processes to kitchen ventilation in retail food outlets. Sizes 315mm to 125mm with performance from 1 up to 15,m 3 /h at static pressure up to 15 Pa. Higher pressures are possible on multistage versions, contra rotating. The New Aero Long Case range has all the quality features you would expect from Xpelair: A case with rolled flange which is then hot dipped galvanised. Heavy duty high performance blades which are x-ray quality tested at manufacture. Precision balancing for optimum performance. Foot mounted motors selected for speed controllability wherever possible. Check out the Aero performance graphs to discover the huge range of performance options; the range outperforms many comparable long case fans often allowing a smaller ducting system components to be chosen where others have to move on to a larger frame size. Popular models are ex stock. Made to order units are normally available ex-factory within 14 days of order confirmation. Specification Explanation and key Casings Casing and heavy duty motor support pad are manufactured in mild steel with all steel parts hot dip galvanised after manufacture. Flanges are roll formed and drilled to DIN To observe direction of rotation, a sight port is provided closed by a rubber grommet. Impellers Hubs and aerodynamically profiled blades are manufactured in cast aluminium alloy. The components are X ray examined to ensure quality and reliability. The blades are adjustable pitch to optimise duty angle The pitch angle is factory set before despatch. The solidity varies for a wider range of performance. The assembly is attached positively to the shaft using a conical inner hub locked by way of a keywayed mild steel cotter. Motors Standard close squirrel cage motors rated to IEC 34 with four pad fixings. The motor insulation is to Class F and and protected to IP55 against dust and water jets. Maintenance free greased for life bearings are L1 life rated. Continuous operating range is from -ºC to +ºC. B form of running- Motor downstream Electrical supply 2-2V single phase 5Hz or -415V three phase 5Hz. Terminal box External terminal boxes are fitted as standard. Do not select above curve end otherwise the fan will work in stall and will be damaged. Fan installation Installation recommendations are as follows: Fans with free inlet and outlet should be installed with 1.5 x fan diameter distance on extract and supply side to the next item of equipment. Fans should have a bellmouth on the air entry to get a smooth airstream. High performance fans will work at higher efficiencies and save energy if diffusers are mounted on the outlet. When installing fans into systems and with other equipment (9º bends, filters, silencers etc) correct bend radius and distance should be considered to avoid losses. Flexible connectors must be installed without kinks in the duct. This guidance will ensure optimum performance. 152
