It featured an air-cooled flat four engine in the back, driving the rear wheels, with a lightweight body, and had a shallower windshield than the standard convertible, stark interior and, with the Carrera, a four cam engine. 3 FEBRUARY 0 MON WK JANUARY 0 MON WK MON WK 0 MON WK Dino GT Designed by Pininfarina, named after Enzo s son, the Dino was built by respected coachbuilder Scaglietti initially as the 0 Dino with no Ferrari badge anywhere on the car. It featured a race-derived all aluminium DOHC V engine with 0bhp on tap clothed in aluminium panels. This was updated to the larger capacity GT with steel bodywork in. Introduced as the Tipo 0SS prototype at the Turin Motor Show in, the first cars were clothed in aluminium panelling and featured Alfa s little all alloy.-litre double overhead cam engine and twin Weber carburettors offering up almost 00bhp. 5 APRIL 0 0th: Bank Holiday (UK) th: Bank Holiday (UK not Scotland) MON WK MON WK MARCH MON WK MON WK Aston Martin DB Vantage Volante Aston Martin was named after its founder Lionel Martin and the Aston Clinton hill-climb in Buckinghamshire where the car first proved itself. The DB name came from tractor manufacturer David Brown who took over the company in developing the racing breed of Aston Martin that would take the World Sportscar Championship in. Evolved from the gorgeous Touring styling of the DB, the DB was longer and heavier but featured a bhp engine in Vantage option. Photos James Mann 0 MAY

A race car for the road, the Atom was, for a long time, the fastest car around the Top Gear track and this model, the Atom, features a supercharged.0-litre i-vtec valve Honda capable of propelling it 0-0 in just. seconds. 7 JUNE 0 MON WK MON WK MAY 0 MON WK MON WK 0 MON WK Lamborghini Murcielago It had been over ten years since the Diablo was launched and as the first Lamborghini developed under new owners Audi there was a lot riding on the Murcielago when it first rolled off the Sant Agata production plant in 00. The new car featured a stunningly simple supercar outline, a top speed of over 00mph driven by a dry sump cc quad cam valve V engine, developing nearly 00bhp, and sold more cars than any other Lamborghini before it. Ireland) MON WK MON WK JUNE MON WK MON WK 0 McLaren MP-C prototype Featuring many ideas carried over from the Formula One side of the business, the MP-C was the first road car totally built by McLaren since the Gordon Murray designed F almost twenty years earlier. The chassis is based around a one piece carbon fibre mono-cell with an outline penned by Frank Stephenson and features McLaren s own.-litre twin turbocharged V developing bhp which propels the lightweight supercar 0-0 in just over seconds. 9 AUGUST 0 rd: Bank Holiday (Scotland) st: Bank Holiday (UK not Scotland) MON WK JULY 0 MON WK MON WK 0 MON WK MON WK AC GT Zagato The Italian coachbuilder first teamed up with AC back in for a special bodied AC Ace but the GT appeared at the Geneva Motor Show in 0. The car, which is based on the Zagato Perana Z-One, features a.-litre V engine delivering over 00bhp to the rear wheels with a top speed of mph and 0-0 in under seconds. The car was originally conceived in conjunction with Lamborghini but after a falling out between the two, BMW decided to build it on its own and there was a Procar series of races that saw the likes of Niki Lauda racing Ms on the F circuit. The car featured BMW s solid straight six.-litre valve engine hopped up with aluminium cylinder heads to produce nearly 0bhp. It remains the only supercar that BMW has ever built. Not bad for a car built as an afterthought from the remaining D Type racing chassis that hadn t sold when Jaguar withdrew from competition, after winning the Le Mans Hours race four times in with an XK0, in with a C Type, and in and with the D Types. The GT had first appeared in its svelte lines penned by brothers Dennis and Peter Adams. It was a popular and successful car for club racers throughout the 0s and in the wooden chassis was replaced by a steel one with production ending in. The supercar featured a quad turbo.-litre V engine capable of propelling the car through four wheel drive to well over 00mph.
