2 CMC Roller Screw Actuators The CPD Series Advantage Maintenance Free Oil lubrication is the accepted optimal lubrication methodology for roller screw actuation. All CMC actuators are completely oil filled. Due to CMC s unique oil lubrication system, the CPD Series is maintenance-free for the life of the unit for most applications. Rugged Hydraulic Tie-Rod Construction CMC s actuators are designed to withstand extreme loads, enabling improved performance and aggressive safety factors to ensure years of trouble-free operation. Motor Mount Isolation In an effort to eliminate undue wear on motors and motor bearings, CMC s unique design and motor mount configuration isolates the motor from potential side loads and avoids any resulting premature motor wear. Internal Anti-Rotation CPD actuators come standard with an internal anti-rotation feature, so you are free to design for your application without the concerns of external anti-rotation features. IP65 Compliant O-Rings and elastomeric seals throughout provide the confidence that your asset is protected from dust, debris and moisture in your operating environment. Optional Absolute Position CPD systems are available with an internal absolute position feedback sensor: the Temposonic E Core by MTS. The output options include SSI, Analog, and CanOpen. Enables accuracy to within ± Made in the U.S. by Creative Motion Control CPD actuators are completely designed and manufactured by CMC in the United States, including all of the main drive components: CMC Planetary Roller Screws, CMC Grooved Roller Bearings, and CMC Planetary Gearboxes. Environmentally Friendly Fluid leaks, filter changes, and air bleeds are standard procedure with fluid power, and the environmental impact and cost of cleanup can be staggering. With CMC actuators, these issues are in the past. The cost savings, both in monetary terms and in protection of the environment, are real and immediate. 2

4 CMC Actuator Main Components CMC Roller Screw Taking full advantage of CMC s years of designing, testing and producing hundreds of different configurations of high performance roller screws, the CPD series includes the latest and greatest roller screw design. CMC Extreme Force Grooved Roller Bearing (GRB ): Born from CMC s roller screw technology, the patent-pending Grooved Roller Bearing has unequaled force density and is matched with the roller screw load capacity to equal or exceed the load/ life requirement of the roller screw. The GRB enables the entire actuator to have more force and therefore longer life in a smaller package. CMC Planetary Gearbox CMC s internally designed and manufactured planetary gearbox provides several alternatives for design engineers to achieve the optimal mix of speed and load for any application. 5 CMC Roller Screws and Grooved Roller Bearings Performance Advantages CMC s planetary roller screw technology provides several advantages over alternative solutions: vs Ball Screws: Roller screws are capable of significantly higher load capacities in the same physical space and therefore often have life expectancies of 10 to 15 times that of a similarly sized ball screw. In addition, roller screws are capable of significantly higher operating speeds. vs hydraulic and pneumatic systems: Due to their roller screw drive trains, CMC actuators are capable of equivalent or better loads and speeds, but have much simpler and more accurate controls in a smaller footprint, they also run quieter, are completely maintenance free, have simple and immediate changeover capability, and in most cases are actually a lower total cost of ownership due to the dramatic decrease in power consumption. CMC s Patented Grooved Roller Bearing technology enables higher loads, higher speeds and longer life in a much smaller package than traditional linear thrust bearings.
