2 Refined solutions for your specialist needs The new crawler range from Massey Ferguson not only meets all of the demands of specialised or difficult farming conditions that are normally associated with crawler tractors but also gives the added benefits of easy operation, greater comfort and long-life track mechanisms, giving lower operating costs. The comprehensive range covers the needs of narrow and open field applications, with three model versions; CF (Fruit), CFM (Fruit Mountain) and C (Open Field). With a choice of engine powers, track gauges, transmission and hydraulic specifications, you can specify your MF 3400 crawler to meet all of your operating requirements. Why tracks? There are a variety of reasons why an MF Crawler is better than a wheeled tractor in certain field conditions. The greater contact area and lower ground pressure gives less soil compaction, which maintains soil structure and promotes better root growth for higher crop productivity. The lower centre of gravity and greater pulling power, with virtually no slip enables safe working on 20% steeper slopes, which can make the difference between land being productive or not. Tracks give improved manoeuvrability. The ability to turn almost within its own length is ideal in vineyards and orchards. Style, comfort and productivity All models are elegantly styled, with smooth lines that are not only pleasing to the eye but kinder to delicate crops when working in confined spaces or with overhanging branches. The superb steering system helps here too, with hydraulic assistance giving light, accurate control. 4 A productive blend of power, comfort and control MF 3400 crawler tractors are fitted with field-proven Perkins engines, which have been designed specifically for agricultural use and also meet the latest Tier III emissions regulations. New Perkins 1100 Series: high performance, low emissions Water-cooled and either naturally aspirated or turbocharged, all of the engines feature the unique long stroke design which develops high torque at low revs. In difficult conditions when engine speed falls as the load increases, your real working torque increases rapidly to maintain productivity even in the toughest, hottest conditions. Improved fuel economy The latest-generation Perkins 1100 Series engines have a host of new features designed to improve performance and reduce noise and emissions. On 4-cylinder models, a cross-flow cylinder head improves combustion, giving lower fuel consumption and exhaust emissions. More precise fuel injection gives a further reduction in fuel consumption, plus an increase in power and torque, across a wide operating range, giving improved economy and performance in a variety of day-today tasks. Being turbocharged, the MF 3435 to 3455 models are also particularly suited to working at higher altitude. When naturally aspirated engines can begin to lose power, the turbo keeps you working at peak efficiency. Choice of transmissions The modular gearbox is of a rugged design, with constant mesh gears and sliding couplers for simplicity and strength. It has 16 forward and eight reverse speeds, with overdrive and reverse shuttle as standard. Where very low ground speeds are needed, a 5.12:1 creeper unit can be specified in place of the overdrive, giving speeds as low as 300 metre/h at rated engine speed. The gear levers are side mounted, with the main gear lever to the right and the shuttle lever ideally situated to the left, leaving the right hand free to operate linkage and hydraulics. Power take-off The two-speed independent PTO system, with a choice of 540/1000 or 540/750 rev/min speeds gives total operating flexibility, and with the PTO speed being achieved at around 85% of rated engine speed, there is plenty of power and torque back-up to maintain the correct speed as load increases. 6 No other crawler tractor is this easy to use... The steering and braking system is, quite simply, the best in the business. The system is controlled by two centrally mounted levers which are light in operation, with exceptional feel and response. Servo-assisted steering and brakes The servo-assisted levers are dual action ; with the first part of their travel operating the steering clutches, and the second applying the corresponding track brake. So there is accuracy for cultivating near trees or vines and powerful braking where really tight turns are required - all with minimum effort. With a dedicated oil supply, consistent control is assured regardless of other linkage or hydraulic system demands. Long-life tracks The tracks are designed to give the ultimate in durability, even when working in extreme conditions. Sophisticated sealing is used on the guide rollers and track pins to optimise life and reduce noise. The suspended tracks are located on an oversized rear axle and heavy duty front leaf spring. A hydraulic track tensioning system further improves ride quality and reduces vibration and wear. The spacious platform has good access, with a large, adjustable seat (wider on open field models), to ensure comfort and safety on rough terrain. On fruit models, the emphasis is on compact dimensions with a smoother profile. The steering/braking features dual-action levers which provide accurate steering and braking. Steering and braking: Unlike a conventional wheeled tractor, steering is achieved by declutching and braking one track or the other. Additional foot brakes can also be applied to either or both tracks, depending on whether tight steering or tractor braking is required. 8 Versatile, precise linkage and hydraulics All models are fitted with a powerful 3-point linkage, and hydraulic systems that are designed to meet the varying demands of fruit or open field applications. Linkage and drawbar The 3-point linkage has full draft, position, intermix and float control, with a lift capacity of 2650 kg, so implement operation is fast, accurate and safe. A high flow pump provides ample oil flow for the linkage and spool valves, with C models having an additional pump. This provides an extra 49 litre/min oil flow for up to six, single/double acting external spool valves that can be specified with standard, float or kick-out functions. Independent hydraulic circuit With a separate pump and oil reservoir on C models, the 3- point linkage is unaffected by the demands of the auxiliary hydraulic system, maintaining performance in the more demanding open field or semi-industrial applications. Heavy duty swinging drawbar The exceptionally tough drawbar has a wide range height and reach adjustment for compatibility with the widest range of trailed equipment. 08
