Cummins technological milestones include over a half-century of distinguished service in vehicles for defense forces worldwide: Cummins Inc. was founded in The first diesel engine ran in the Indianapolis 500 in saw the first supercharged automotive diesel. In 1941 the U.S. Army ordered 5,000 H160 engines for transport trucks. M809 Series production began in 1970 with the NHC-250 more than 70,000 were produced. M915 line-haul truck production started in 1978 with the NTC-400.
