1 Australian RX8 Cup Series Regulations Version 1.2, Released April 2, 2018 SPECIFICATIONS OF AUTOMOBILES ALL VEHICLES IN RACES AND OTHER SPEED EVENTS MUST COMPLY WITH THE GENERAL REQUIREMENTS OF AUTOMOBILES (SEE GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR CARS AND DRIVERS IN THE CAMS MANUAL OF MOTOR SPORT). (i) (ii) 1.PHILOSOPHY: The intent of the following regulations is to enable competitors to adequately prepare a production Mazda RX8 series 1 ( ) for competition. The ARCS Australian RX8 Cup Series is intended to be a circuit racing group for Mazda RX8 s that have controlled parameters installed to promote and easily manage parity for performance and other componentry. The ARCS is aimed at Club level competitors as an entry level motor sport class operated under AASA National guidelines and requirements. Our philosophy and aim is to develop the most cost effective grass roots motor sport series in Australia. Modifications permitted to the vehicle/s are outlined within these regulations; ANY MODIFICATION NOT OUTLINED WITHIN THESE REGULATIONS IS DEEMED ILLEGAL AND IS NOT PERMITTED. 1.1DEFINITION: (i) The present regulations apply to Australian Delivered Mazda RX8 series ELIGIBILITY: (i) To be eligible for the ARCS, the automobile must be an early series 1 model Mazda RX8 and of Australian delivery. (ii) All controlled items as listed must be purchased at the competitor price from Ric Shaw Performance p/l. 35 Parramatta rd Five Dock NSW Ph RACING WEIGHT: (i) Defined in the Motorsport Specifications of Automobiles. Each competitor must comply with the ARCS Racing Weight. The National ARCS Racing Weight is a minimum of 1358 kg with Driver and Driver Safety Equipment at race end. (Endurance races included). Competitors may be requested at any time to participate in vehicle/driver weight check. Refusal by any competitor will automatically
2 exclude them from the round. Any competitor found to be underweight will be relegated to the rear of the grid for the next race (or in the case of the final race of the round, they will be excluded from the final race results). (ii) Ballast maybe added according to the CAMS National Manual of Motorsport. 2.2 NON-GENUINE PARTS: (i) Freedom of source of supply is granted for all fasteners, belts, gaskets, flexible hoses, liquid carrying pipes, mechanical cables, bearings, clamps, spark plugs,ignition coils and spark plug leads, filters, batteries and battery cables, globes and LEDs, fuses and electro mechanical relays and windscreen glass provided no additional modifications are made to facilitate the fitment of the replacement part. 3. SAFETY CAGE: (i) Each vehicle must be fitted with a national levelfull safety cage. Each safety cage must be in compliance with General Requirements for Cars and Drivers in the CAMS Manual of Motor Sport. Both Weld in and Bolt in cages are compliant. 4. ENGINE 4.1 GENERAL: (i) Unless specified otherwise below, tolerances for machining, finishing and weighing of engine components will be in accordance with General Requirements for Cars and Drivers (Motorsport manual). All plastic shrouding located in the engine bay, the sole purpose of which is aesthetic, may be removed. Soundproofing material and trim fitted to the underside of the bonnet that is not visible from the outside may be removed 4.2 MOUNTS: (i) The dampening material of the engine mounts is free provided the location, position and orientation of the engine remains standard. 4.3 ROTARY ENGINE BLOCK: (i) All engine components must be from the original manufacturer (MAZDA) and of standard original state. Machining/lapping of side cast iron plates is allowed only to resurface the material as part of engine reconditioning, no added lining of any material is allowed to any component. (ii) All inlet and exhaust ports must be as factory standard. No porting of any description is allowed 4.4 ROTATING ASSEMBLY: (i) It is permitted to remove material from the rotating assembly only for the purpose of balancing. No more than 2 % is allowed to be removed for this purpose from any one component of the rotating assembly. No material is allowed to be removed for the purpose of fitting any compression seal. Only OEM seals can be used.
3 (ii) Method of Ignition and fuel injection timing/triggering cannot be modified in any way (iii) Flywheels must be OEM RX8.Unmodified. 4.5 ECCENTRIC SHAFT: (i) Eccentric shaft must be OEM and unmodified (ii) Eccentric shaft balancing is allowed, however overbalancing is not permitted. 4.6 ROTORS: (i) Rotors must be OEM RX8 and standard compression ratio. Only OEM seals may be used. (ii) All bearings must be OEM as per sizes available from Mazda LUBRICATION: (i) It is permitted to add an oil separator tank to the crankcase breather line. (ii) Oil coolers may be changed and/or added provided that the sole purpose of each cooler is to reduce oil temperature. Each cooler and associated components must remain inside the external bodywork of the automobile. (iii) The engine sump may be modified or replaced to allow greater volume of oil, the pick up may be modified or replaced. 4.8 THROTTLE: (i) Throttle body, fuel rail, injectors, fuel regulator and fuel pump as well as all supporting components must be standard OEM components and are not permitted to be modified. (ii) The Air intake system up stream of the throttle must be OEM and unmodified, Air filter elements are free but must be as the OEM unit in shape and size. (iii)the Intake manifold system and all intake components must be OEM. 4.9 PULLEYS: (i) All pulleys that drive engine ancillaries (ie, water pump, alternator) are free. The crank pulley is free. Each associated belt may be replaced provided it respects the standard type and width. 5.0 ELECTRONIC ENGINE CONTROL UNIT (ECU): (i) ECU must remain standard and unmodified. It is not permitted to re-flash or adapt any additional piggyback style ECU module. The ECU must be in standard OEM mounting location.
4 (ii) The ARCS Competition Manager may from time to time or at his/her discretion issue any competitor with a standard ECU in the event The ARCS Competition Manager suspect a competitor may be using an illegal ECU. Refusal by the competitor will automatically exclude them from the round. The ARCS reserves the right to conduct an ECU lottery during each round. (ii)(iii) The ARCS Competition manager may change the radiator fan operation setting in the ECU upon request. 5.1 COOLING SYSTEM: (i) Radiators may be replaced provided the width, height and position of the replacement radiator is the same as the OEM radiator. If replacement radiator is installed, no removal or modification other than that of the plastic fan shroud is permitted. (ii) Water pumps are free to be changed provided they are mechanically identical to the standard pump (volume not included). The thermostat, its operation and method of control is free as is the method of operation of the standard engine cooling fan/s and the manner in which the radiator pressure is maintained. It is permitted to fit a protective screen mounted in front of the radiator provided no additional modifications are made to facilitate the fitment. 6.0 EXHAUST: SERIES CONTROL ITEM: (i) The exhaust system must be the controlled system. This is to be fitted downstream of the first joint at the end of the exhaust manifold. Modifications to the controlled exhaust are not permitted. The OEM exhaust manifold must be retained and unmodified. The controlled exhaust must have the controlled muffler. (ii)the Exhaust must meet the 95db noise requirements. (III) External heat wrap material (bandage) may be used on the exhaust pipe for heat protection, not on the manifold. (iv)the exhaust must exit on the passenger s side of the car at the rear (left side) only. 7.0 AIR CONDITIONING COMPONENTS: (i) Any components solely associated with the air conditioning system of the automobile may be removed from the engine compartment. 8.0 GEARBOX: (i) Transmission must come from Australia delivered Mazda RX8 series 1 only. All components of the transmission must be of OEM manufacture origin and ratios of the Australian delivered vehicles. The transmission must have 6 forward gears and a working reverse gear. Modifications to the transmission are not permitted. The gear shifter must be OEM and unmodified in its operation.the gear knob is free. A single oil cooler is permitted. 9.0 DIFFERENTIAL: (i)differential must be from an Australian delivered Mazda RX8 series 1.
5 (ii)the method of coupling (LSD) must be OEM and unmodified. (iii)the final drive ratio must be OEM, 4.44 ratio. (iii) It is also permitted to fit an extension to the transmission or differential breather using a short length of hose feeding into a catch can. (iv) A single oil cooler is permitted. (v) it is permitted to replace the dampening or elastomer material of the transmission mounts providing the location and position remains standard OEM CLUTCH: (i) The clutch driven plate is free provided the number of plates remains standard and the plate is not made from a carbon material. (ii) The pressure plate must be OEM type. A heavy duty diaphragm may be fitted SUSPENSION 11.1 GENERAL: (i) The front and rear suspension and its suspension pivot points must remain in the original and unmodified location. Other than offsetbushes used to further the adjustments from original points. (ii)wheel alignment settings are free with in the OEM/ offset adjustments at the OEM adjustable points. (iii)no other modifications to any other OEM component, associated with suspension or wheel/tyre alignment and location is permitted COIL SPRINGS/SWAY BARS. (i)only the controlled springs manufactured by MCA are allowed to be used. Control spring rates must be fitted as supplied with respect to Front rate 14kg and Rear rate 8kg. Swapping rates is not permitted. (ii)sway bars must be OEM RX8 series 1. No modifications are permitted to the sway bars or the method of attachment SHOCK ABSORBERS/ COIL OVERS: SERIES CONTROL ITEM: (i)only the controlled Shock absorber/coil over manufactured by MCA is permitted to be used. (ii) It is not permitted to re-valve or alter the MCA Coil over.
6 11.4 SUSPENSION BUSHES: (i)it is permitted to replace each elastomeric suspension pivot point bush and sub frame mounting bush by a dimensionally identical bush made from another elastomeric material. (ii) Should a suspension bush incorporate an outer metal shell and/or a central crush tube, each of these components will be regarded as part of the bush. Each outer shell or central crush tube must respect the dimensions of the standard bush. (iii) Should a suspension bush be integrated with a secondary component, such as a suspension arm, only the elastomeric material shall be regarded as the bush RIDE HEIGHT: (i) Ride Height is Free to change. Minimum ground clearance except for the exhaust is 100mm between the centre point of the front and rear wheel with the driver in the vehicle WHEELS AND TYRES 12.1 WHEELS: SERIES CONTROL ITEM: (i)wheels must be the CONTROL item from Speedy wheels. Wheels must be 18inch diameter x 8inch width with a offset of +45. (ii) Wheels/Tyres must not protrude past the guard. (iii) Wheel spacers are not permitted. (iii)(iv) it is permitted to replace each wheel nut provided that the replacement is of a ferrous material and the outer end is not enclosed TYRES: SERIES CONTROLLED ITEM: (i)nankang AR1. (Heat patch for RX8 Cup attached) (ii) Size 235/40/18 (iii) Tyres must be marked by the Technical/Eligibility officer only. (iv) A maximum of 6 tyres must be marked for each round of the championship. The tyres may be new or previously used. (v) 4 tyres are to be marked for a round of the championship at completion of Qualifying. An additional 2 tyres may be presented to the Technical/Eligibility officer for marking and be used in competition. (vi) Only marked tyres may be used in races. (vii) No modifications are permitted to tyres, including Buffing,re-shaping or chemical treatment.
7 (viii) At no time may any tread wear indicator be exposed. With the exception of the shoulder of a tyre, in each area of a tyre where there is no tread wear indicator, the original tread pattern must be clearly visible. (ix) In the advent that a competitor is unable to use any 6 of the marked tyres for the round due to damage, dangerous conditions or excessive wearthe Technical/Eligibility officer may approve the substitution of a tyre.only damaged, dangerous or excessively worn tyres may be submitted for substitution. The substitutedtyre will be marked accordingly and be used for all further competition at that round. Competitors requiring a substitution will start the following race rear of grid BRAKES. SERIES CONTROLLED ITEM: (i) Brake callipers must be OEM. (ii)disc rotors may be replaced with items of the same specification to OEM, all dimensions must be identical. Slotted s and drilled are permitted. Two piece rotors are not permitted. (iii) Brake pads must be the controlled item.control Brake pads are Circo S99 for the front brakes and Circo S83 for the rear brakes. Compounds must be used as supplied for Front and Rear. (iii) (iv) (v) (vi) (vii) Brake fluid pipes and hoses are free, braided brake hoses are encouraged. The ABS must be retailed and operating as per OEM. The Park brake must be retained and operating as per OEM. Backing plates may be removed. Brake ducts are permitted feeding from the removal of the OEM spot lights. 14. FUEL SYSTEM 14.1 FUEL TANK: (i) Only OEM Fuel Tanks unmodified in the original OEM location will be permitted. (ii)dry Brake fuel systems are not required for the series. (iii) Fuel used in all Practice / Qualifying / Race sessions must be Commercial 98 octane petrol. No additives are permitted other than lubricant for engine seals. Any Octane altering substances are not permitted FUEL PUMP: (i) Fuel pump must be OEM and mounted in the original position inside the fuel tank. Modifications are not permitted to the fuel pump feeding the engine or the fuel system. A second fuel pump may be fitted inside the fuel tank only to help with the distribution of fuel in the OEM tank and there for the issue of fuel surge. This pump may not feed the engine directly and must operate only when the OEM fuel pump operates ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT:
8 (i) The use of data storage devices including multi-display dashes with the ability to store car data is NOT permitted. All competing vehicles will be subject to an ECU Lottery at the discretion of the Competition Manager. (ii)only lap timing devises may be used via beam or GPS. (iii)the Battery must be in the OEM location. (iv)the Alternator must be OEM and charge at all times while the engine is running. 16. BODYWORK 16.1 JACKING: (i) The jacking points may be strengthened by the addition of metal plate/s, relocated and/or increased in number provided that each jacking point does not exceed a surface area of more than 150mm x 150mm and follows the contours of the original structure (sill panel) COCKPIT/DRIVER S COMPARTMENT: (i) The driver must use a safety harness that complies with CAMS Motorsport General Requirements for Cars and Drivers STEERING WHEEL: (i) The steering wheel may be replaced by one which is of at least 300mm diameter. It is permitted to add a steering wheel boss, incorporating a quick release mechanism, to enable the fitment of a permissible steering wheel CONTROLS: (i) All driving controls must retain the role laid down for them by the manufacturer. Footrests and heat protection panels may be added to the driver s foot well cavity. The OEM Pedals must be retained also location of the brake, clutch and accelerator pedals must remain in original position and of original operation INSTRUMENTS: (i) Instruments are free, but the original dash must remain. Any holes in the dash resulting from the removal of instruments must be neatly closed by the addition of a closing panel. Where possible, all replacement instruments must be mounted in the dash where the original instruments were situated. Where the original dash incorporates an integral console connecting to the transmission tunnel this panel must be retained CARPET AND INTERIOR TRIM: (i) Floor carpet and associated underfelt, roof lining may be removed. (ii)oem Door trims must be retained but may be modified for fitment of the Roll Cage only.
9 (iii) Roof lining and roof trim may be removed. (iv) Front passenger and rear seats maybe removed. All restraint systems maybe removed. (v) All boot lining/trim and spare wheel/mounting and wheel changing equipment may be removed. (vi) radio system maybe removed. (vii) The centre console must be retained. (viii) The steering shroud may be removed for fitment of instruments SEATS: (i) The driver s seat may be replaced with one in compliance with CAMS Requirements for Cars and Drivers. Original seat mountings may be replaced or modified and/or other mountings added provided that they extend no further than 50mm from the plan view of the seat and associated seat belts are free. All other passenger seats can be removed 16.8 ACCESSORIES: (i) The radio, aerial, speakers and speaker mounts may be removed. Fog/driving lights which are separate from the main lighting system may be removed as may internal cockpit lights. Accessories which do not increase performance (eg, additional lamps, mirrors, etc) may be added. OEM side and internal rear-vision mirrors must be unmodified WINDOWS and SUNROOFS: (i)heated front screens are permitted. (ii) rear quarter windows in the rear doors may be replaced with clear polycarbonate material fitted with a ventilation duct. (iii) Sunroofs maybe replaced with polycarbonate material of a minimum 3.8mm thickness. 17. COMPETITION NUMBERS: (i) Each vehicle must have a number with contrasting background, only combinations of black on white or white on black are acceptable. (ii) The number must be located on each side of the vehicle and on the forward most part of the front door. (iii) Each vehicle must have a florescent yellow number on the upper left part of the front and rear windscreen. (iv)allocation of Series race numbers will be issued on application of membership. Triple digit numbers are not allowed. (v) Number 1, will be reserved for the current series champion, to be used at the competitor s discretion
10 18. CATEGORY SPONSOR SIGNAGE: TBA. (i) Category Sponsor Signage must be displayed on all cars during the racing season. These areas are as follows: windscreen banner, rear window banner, door panel sponsor and numberplates front and rear, side mirrors, roof front and rear bumper bar. All other series suppliers/sponsors signage must be placed on the car. (i)(ii) Competitors may not advertise on their Cup cars any of, brands or brand signage that is similar or considered an alternate brand to those brands and suppliers who are providing Series Control Items. That list includes but is not limited to the list below which the RX8 Cup association reserves the right to change from time to time in line with suppliers to the series:, Brake Pads Circo Suspension Wheels Tyres MCAS Speedy Wheels Nankang (iii) Signage Locations The general location of signage must be as numbered 1) RX8 Cup Window banner 2) Speedy Wheels Roof top, Wing mirrors, Rear Bumer 3) Hunter Kitchen King Number Panel, Rear window 4) Nankang 4 signs in the vicinity of wheels 5) West End Mazda Number Plates 6) Royal Purple 2 visible locations 7) MCA 2 visible locations 1)8) Circo Race Pads- 2 visible locations
11 19. CALANDER, POINTS& TROPHIES: (i) CALANDER The 2018 RX8 Cup will be contested over five rounds. Round Venue Date 1 Winton Raceway March 10-11
12 2 Morgan Park June Wakefield Park August Sydney Motorsport Park October Winton Raceway November (ii) POINT SCORING Pole position will be allocated 1 point Points for RX8 Cup races will be allocated as follows: Finish Place Points 1st 30 2nd 28 3rd 26 4th 24 5th 22 6th 20 7th 18 8th 16 9th 14 10th 12 11th 10 12th 9 13th 8 14th 7 15th 6 16th 5 17th 4 18th 3 19th 2 20th + 1 All finishes classified in 20 th place or lower will be allocated 1 point.
13 (iii) SERIES CHAMPIONSHIP POINTS Series Championship Points will be awarded for all races (both Saturday and Sunday) as per (ii) POINT SCORING. In the advent of a tie in Series Championship Points - the tie will be broken by the number of first places finishes. In the advent of a tie in the Series Championship Points and first place finishes, the tie will be broken by a count in pole positions. (iv) RACE MEETING TROPHIES Trophies for race meetings will be allocated based on a Race Meeting Point score. Scoring for the Race Meeting Point score will be as per (ii) POINT SCORING. All races (both Saturday and Sunday) will count to the Race Meeting Point score. Races will be a Progressive grid format at each race meeting. In the advent of a tie in Race Meeting Points - the tie will be broken by the number of first places finishes. 20. GENERAL REGULATIONS: (i) All Competitors must be a financial member of the series to compete in any of the ARCS Championship Events or Series. (ii) TESTING RESTRICTIONS. Any driver associated with the Series is not permitted to drive on any circuit that is hosting a Round of the Series in any automobile entered in the Series after midnight on the Friday of the week preceding the commencement of the relevant Round of the Series unless authorised in writing by the CM. The CM shall be the sole arbiter as to whether an automobile or Driver is associated with the Series. Friday practice the day before is permitted. (iii) SEALING OF AUTOMOBILES/COMPONENTS. (a) The engine fitted to each automobile must have been sealed by the TC or a nominated sealer approved by the CM, prior to the commencement of qualifying at each round of the Series. (b) The TC may seal any drive train and engine part during an event for inspection between events. (c) No seal may be removed without the prior express permission of the TC. (d) Where a sealed component has been determined to be ineligible by the Stewards, the Stewards may, at their discretion, exclude the automobile from the results of all previous rounds of the Series in which the sealed component was identified as having been used on that automobile. (e) It is the responsibility of the Competitor to have appropriate holes in relevant components to enable the fixing of seals.
14 (iv) All competition vehicles are to be presented in a clean and tidy fashion at all times. (v) The use of Pit display A boards is encouraged to promote sponsors. (v)(vi) Incar cameras are to be used with a Dash board sign showing Speedy Wheels. (vi)penalties. Penalties will be applied to competitors found in breach of these regulations.
