2 ABOUT THIS COURSE: DUI Boot Camp is the most in-depth Impaired Driving Continuing Legal Education (CLE) Course available. DUI Trainers & Consultants, LLC offers on-site training for prosecutors, public defenders, and bar associations. General Information: This course is specifically designed to be offered on-site to law firms, bar associations, legal associations, public defenders offices, prosecutors offices, etc. MCLE Approval: This course has been approved in multiple states. We will ensure approval or we will refund 100% of your money. 3 COURSE AGENDA DAY 1: THE BASICS OF SFST/ARIDE START END SUBJECT & DESCRIPTION Course Introduction: Brief introduction to the course, introduction of faculty; introduction of participants, etc Phase 1: Vehicle in Motion Identify typical cues used by officers to determine whether a vehicle in motion should be stopped based upon suspicion of DUI BREAK Phase 2: Personal Contact Identify the typical cues observed during the initial at the door interview with the driver that may lead an officer to ask the driver to perform field sobriety tests or believe the driver to be impaired LUNCH ON YOUR OWN Introduction to Pre-Arrest Screening (SFST & ARIDE): Describe the role of psychophysical tests; Define and describe the concepts of divided attention and nystagmus; discuss preliminary breath tests; and the arrest decision process BREAK Concepts & Principles of SFST Discuss the development and validity of the research and standardized elements, clues and interpretation of the three Standardized Field Sobriety Tests; Discuss types of nystagmus and their effects on the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) tests; Learn the proper administration of the three Standardized Field Sobriety Tests; Recognize the clues of the three SFST tests; Learn the specific definition of the clues and how those SFSTs are to be described and recorded; Identify the limitations of SFST. Participants will administer SFST; Participants will grade videos showing administration/performance of SFST The Essential Elements of ARIDE Testing Identify the purpose of the various eye examinations used in the ARIDE Curriculum including Vertical Gaze Nystagmus (VGN), Lack of Convergence (LOC) and Modified Romberg Balance Test TOTAL CLE CREDIT FOR DAY: 6.0 / 7.2

4 DAY 2: THE ABC S OF SFST and ARIDE START END SUBJECT & DESCRIPTION Seven Drug Categories Identify common drug names and terms associated with the seven drug categories; identify the common methods of ingestion for each category; describe the indicators or impairment associated with each category; describe conditions that may mimic the signs and symptoms associated with each drug category; List the indicators which may emerge during the three phases of DUI/DWI Detection which may indicate the subject is under the influence of drugs LUNCH ON YOUR OWN Overview of DRE Procedures Identify the 12 components of the DRE Drug Influence Evaluation Psychophysical Tests Participants will learn how the four divided attention tests used the in the DRE Evaluation BREAK Vital Signs Examination Participants will learn the vital signs that are utilized in the DRE drug influence evaluation and the reasons for each. 6 ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR F. Dean Morgan, Esquire is an attorney and former police officer. He began his career in law enforcement in During his law enforcement career, Dean made hundreds of arrests, many for DUI and impaired driving. In 1999, Dean left law enforcement to continue his education and pursue the practice of law. Dean graduated from Eastern University in 2003 and Penn State s Dickinson School of Law in While in law school, Dean was employed by the Cumberland County District Attorney s Office in Pennsylvania. Following law school, Dean was employed by the Las Vegas, Nevada District Attorney s Office. In 2007, he returned to Pennsylvania where he joined the Lancaster County Pennsylvania District Attorney s Office. In 2010, Dean opened The Morgan Law Firm, dedicated his firm exclusively to DUI Defense. Nearly eight years later, over 1000 people have benefited from his representation for DUI and DUI-related matters. Dean is a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, National College of DUI Defense, and Pennsylvania Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. Dean is currently licensed to practice in Pennsylvania and Maryland. Dean received advanced training as a NHTSA SFST Instructor and the following courses: NHTSA Student Practitioner, NHTSA ARIDE Training, and NHTSA DRE Training. ABOUT DUI TRAINERS AND CONSULTANTS, LLC In 2017, Dean opened DUI Trainers & Consultants, LLC. The firm is founded and dedicated to provide unbiased Impaired Driving education to attorneys, judges, and law enforcement officers. Participants will learn the NHTSA protocols to enhance their courtroom skills. We are dedicated to improve the litigation and negotiation skills of the attorneys who serve the respective sides of the justice system. In addition, we seek to educate the judiciary to ensure that both sides receive a fair trial. In doing so, we seek to ensure that those who drive after being impaired are properly prosecuted and punished while at the same time ensuring that those who are not impaired are treated fairly.
