The manufacturer cannot be held liable for damages caused by unauthorized setting alterations. Before installing the overspeed governor type plate characteristics have to be compared with the lift characteristics. The safety gear shall be used only within the permissible range of application (See EC type examination certificate AGB 029/3). 12
5.3 Technical Data Boundary conditions The overspeed governor is acting in both senses of direction; The side where the rope is connected to the safety gear has to be marked on installation Installation in shaft or machine room. Installation with / without mounting plate. Connection to safety gear linkage: wedge socket / thimble Tensioning weight required: 45 kg (in case of increased tensioning weight the rope groove is hardened) Groove for governor rope hardened or unhardened 8 mm (Groove for governor rope hardened or unhardened 6,5 mm) Operative groove : 300 mm Test groove : 240 mm (Ratio of diameters of operative groove to test groove = 1,25) Overall dimensions: height = 350 m width = 310 mm depth = 250 mm weight = 20 kg Range of application max. rated speed max. electrical pre-tripping about 93% of tripping speed (disconnection of safety circuit) max. tripping speed (mechanical tripping) 6,95 m/s 7,44 m/s 8,0 m/s 13
5.3.3 Tripping 5.4 State upon delivery Pulling force at governor: 600 N (the sliding brake prevents the blocking of the rope sheave and uncontrolled increase of force in the governor rope) max. engaging force of the safety gear: 300N (acc. to EN ) The overspeed governor is set to the following lift-specific data: Rated speed of the car Tripping speed The setting is secured against alterations by means of a seal by the manufacturer. HAZARD Wrong setting of the overspeed governor may result in a fall-down of the lift car. If exceptionally a setting correction is required, the setting has to be carried out exclusively by competent persons after consultation with SLC Sautter Lift Components. The new setting has to be secured against unauthorized alterations by means of a seal. The manufacturer cannot be held liable for damages caused by unauthorized readjustments. Before installing the overspeed governor its type plate characteristics are to be checked for conformity with the lift characteristics. The overspeed governor shall only be applied within the admissible scope of application. (See EC type examination certificate AGB 029/3). 14
5.5 Functioning of the overspeed governor ➋ The overspeed governor is working according to the centrifugal principle. Two centrifugal weights ❶ at rope sheave ❷ are held in rest position by adjustable, pretensioned compression springs ❸ agaginst a stop. ❶ ❸ ❸ ❶ When the tripping speed is reached these weights swing radially to the outside, hook in to sliding brake ❻ and brake the rope sheave. ❺ The overspeed governor works in both senses of rotation. The arrow that marks the down direction is loosely attached and shall be fixed to the governor after the sense of direction is defined. The overspeed governor is provided with electrical pre-tripping ❹ that disconnects the safety circuit when 93% of the tripping speed is reached. The overspeed governor shall trip at 115 % % of the rated speed. The tripping values are set in the factory and are secured by a seal. ➍ ❻ The monitoring switch ❹ (pre-tripping and tripping) shall be reset manually ❺ after tripping to ON position. The overspeed governor is equipped with a sliding brake ❻. When tripping speed is reached the rope sheave is braked by the sliding brake and engages the safety gear. The rope sheave remains rotating until standstill of the lift car. This way rope and groove are handled with care especially if there are long braking distances. The braking torque is set in the factory to 100 Nm. The rope groove is a round groove with undercut. 15
5.5.1 Electrical pre-tripping Sliding brake The electrical pre-tripping causes the disconnection of the safety circuit and engagement of the brake if the lift speed rises to about 93% of the tripping speed in up and down direction. Thus, in down direction the lift is braked before the safety gear trips. The sliding brake of the overspeed governor provides the engaging force to engage the safety gear. The rope running in the rope groove has a special friction effect owing to the shape of the groove. When the respective tripping speed is reached (in advance resp. upon braking) this weights swing radially to the outside and hook in into the sliding brake, thus braking the rope sheave. The initially high frictional force caused by the surface roughness of new grooves and new ropes are decreasing in the course of operating life and even will be reduced by friction-affecting materials like grease, oil, dirt etc. and by the ordinary wear and tear in the rope groove Tensioning weight The loss of frictional force can be compensated only by increasing the weight of the tensioning weight, which again will increase the wear and tear. The tensioning force applied by the tensioning weight is also decisive for the achievable engaging force. It should be rated so, that the friction resulting therefrom is higher than the force that - owing to the set sliding torque of the brake - is available in the groove. If braking is active the governor rope is driving the rope sheave against the acting torque of the friction brake and engages the safety gear. 16
5.5.4 Governor ropes Check whether the selected tensioning weight with its known tensioning force can produce a frictional force that complies with the locally applicable rules. The tensioning weight is monitored via a slack rope switch. If the governor rope breaks, the tensioning weight swings down. Thus, the switch is forcibly activated and the control circuit opens positively, so that the drive brake is made active. Use only a flexible, stress-free and twist-free wire rope acc. to DIN 3051 and DIN The rope diameter has to correspond with the type plate data of the overspeed governor. i ATTENTION Wire ropes shall not be mounted when twisted. They are to be hanged-up freely in the shaft to untwist and their ends must be put together in this position. Torsional movements of the rope while entering the groove are increasing wear and tear. ➎ ➏ ➌ ➋ ➍ ➍ ➊ Monitoring switch ➋ Rope switch ➌ Sliding brake ➍ Centrifugal weight ➎ Operative groove ➏ Test groove ➊ 17
5.6 Safety gear check (braking test) Manual tripping with the rope brake to the tensioning pulley to the safety gear The supplied rope is hooked-in with the thimble at the lever, the rope is put into the test groove and the brake lever inserted. Initially, the rope is kept slack. To engage the safety gear wird the rope is tensioned by pressing down the lever; thus the rope sheave is braked and the safety gear engaged. In this procedure the down direction is to be observed Tripping at rated speed by means of the test groove Beside of the operative groove with an operating diameter of 300 mm the overspeed governor is fitted with a test groove with diameter 240 mm. When carrying out the braking test the governor rope is transfered from the operative groove to the test groove which rotates with a speed corresponding to the tripping speed, and the overspeed governor trips and engages the safety gear. 18
5.7 Installation instruction of 200 Installation bore holes of the overspeed governor Seilabstand 300 Rope distance Functional check after installation Prior to lift commissioning the overspeed governor has to be checked for functioning as follows: Carrying out the lift specific checks according to lift manufacturer s instructions (inspection run etc.) Check of the governor rope (correct vertical rope guidance; no oscillations; tensioning weight not swinging) At about 93 % of tripping speed the pre-tripping function shall disconnect the safety circuit. The overspeed governor shall trip at 1,15 x rated speed. 19
5.7.2 Check after braking After any braking action the overspeed governor has to be rechecked by a competent person. It shall be checked visually whether any alterations, dirt or damages have occured. Following items shall be checked: Wear and tear at the rope sheave Wear and tear at the governor rope Smooth running Pre-tripping has to be reset to initial position ON 20
Periodical maintenance inspections 6 Periodical maintenance inspections The overspeed governor and the sheave of the tensioning weight are permanently maintenance-free and must not be relubricated. The grease cup should be filled every 3 months with Shell Alvania R2 or another comparable lubricant. In case of frequent use checks as follows should be carried out in intervals of 6 months: Visual check of the governor rope for broken wires, deformations, dirt, grease etc. If after a longer period of use the ropes show signs of wear and tear, they are to be replaced by qualified personnel only. Visual check of governor sheave and groove for grease and dirt. Clean it, if necessary. If the groove shows rope marks the governor shall be replaced immediately as the rope might tear off when the governor trips! Visual check of tension spring, seal, general state. Possibly, the tripping speed has to be checked acc. to item On occassion of periodical maintenance inspections the overspeed governor shall be checked for Smooth running Wear and tear at the rope sheave (operative groove) Rust Dirt Seal If after a longer period of use the overspeed governor show signs of wear and tear, it is to be replaced by qualified personnel.
