RULE BOOK DISCLAIMER: PREFACE The rules and/or regulations set forth herein are designed to provide for the orderly conduct of racing events and to establish minimum acceptable requirements for such events. These rules shall govern the condition of all events, and by participating in these events, all participants are deemed to have complied with these rules. No expressed or implied warranty of safety shall result from publications of or compliance with these rules and/or regulations. They are intended as a guide for the conduct of the sport and are in no way a guarantee against injury or death to a participant, spectator or official. The race director shall be empowered to permit reasonable and appropriate deviation from any of the specifications herein or impose any further restrictions that in his opinion do not alter the minimum acceptable requirements. No expressed or implied warranty of safety shall result from such alteration of specifications. Any interpretation or deviation of these rules is left to the discretion of the officials and their decisions are final. Jennerstown Speedway Complex 2018 General Rules will apply for this event unless specifically specified my Jennerstown Speedway management. 1. GENERAL Four cylinders, front wheel drive COMPACT CARS ONLY. No full-size cars allowed. No SUVs, crossovers, or vans permitted. No convertibles allowed. No all wheel drive allowed. No all wheel steering allowed. No rear engine allowed. No mid-engine allowed. No turbochargers allowed. No superchargers allowed. No chemical power adders of any kind (nitrous oxide, benzene, etc.) allowed. 2. TRACK COMMUNICATION: Optional Race Control RACEceivers frequency ENGINE 3.1. Four cylinder engines may be pushrod, SOHC, or DOHC. OEM stock variable cam timing is allowed on four cylinders displacing 2.4 liters or less only. 4. WEIGHT 4.1. Minimum total weight shall be 2,500 lbs Maximum left side percentage of weight shall be 55% Minimum weight is measured with all driver safety equipment installed or in place, radio in place and with driver in the car Cars will be weighed after the race Track scale weights are final. 5. BALLEST WEIGHT 5.1. All ballast weight must be painted white, with the car number legibly displayed in red or black on the weight and the total weight displayed Ballast weight attached to any frame rail must be attached with one ½ grade five or greater bolt per each fifteen (15) pounds of weight. 4 5.3. Each bolt must be installed with a flat washer against the ballast weight and secured with a locking type nut or a standard nut with a cotter pin, safety wire, or jam nut Ballast bars shall weigh not less than a minimum of five (5) pounds and not more than sixty (60) pounds each. 6. WEIGH-IN 6.1 The top five cars in each event must weigh. Cars will be weighed after the race or at the direction of Jennerstown Race Official. 6.2 Cars with flat tires must stop by the scales and change tire(s) before scaling. 6.3 Cars must exit the speedway and proceed directly onto the scales. 6.4 Drivers bouncing up and down in their seats may be disqualified. 6.5 Failure to weigh or cars found light after the race, results in a disqualification for the event. 6.6 Jennerstown Speedway scales will be the official scales. Track scale weights are final. 7. WHEELBASE 7.1. Wheelbase must be between inches. 8. GROUND CLEARANCE 8.1. Minimum ground clearance of the frame shall be 5 from the track surface with a ½ tolerance Body panels must be 3 s off the ground Ground clearance measurements are taken with a full fuel cell and all tires inflated to 30 psi. 9. MASTER KILL SWITCH 9.1. Rotary-type, master kill switch, labeled ON/OFF is mandatory Switch location is mandated to be mounted on the internal roll cage bars, directly to the right of the driver s seat for accessibility from the left or right side windows Switch must disconnect or kill all electrical power to the car from the battery. Switch must be wired in series with the positive side of the battery cable. 10. BATTERIES Only one standard automotive battery, maximum 12 volts, will be permitted The battery must be mounted in the engine compartment only. 11. EXHAUST SYSTEM Any type of exhaust system is permitted but must extend rearward beyond the driver seat and exit the passenger side of the vehicle. 12. FUEL & FUEL SYSTEM The fuel system and components must be acceptable to the Track Officials and must meet the following minimum requirements: Pressurized fueling tanks are not permitted Stock fuel tanks are approved for competition. 5 12.4. The use of a commercially manufactured approved fuel cell with a maximum capacity of eight (8) US gallons is optional but HIGHLY recommended All fuel cells and/or fuel tanks must be completely shielded with a skid plate from a minimum of 18 gauge No chemical power adders of any kind (nitrous oxide, benzene, etc.) allowed. 13. FUEL PUMP Any fuel pump is permitted provided it is mounted outside of the fuel cell All electric fuel pumps must use the wiring harness of the original car. 14. FUEL Fuel must be purchased at the speedway Competitor fuel is subject to standard fuel testing procedures at any time. 15. AIR FILTER & AIR INTAKE K&N and other aftermarket style air filter elements will be permitted All air entering the engine must be filtered through the element Notching out of the hood is not permitted. 16. ROLL CAGE CONSTRUCTION Following are the minimum specification requirements for roll cage construction approved for competition: The Speedway reserves the right to sonic test any or all structural chassis members at any time during an event. Structural chassis member(s) found in violation of minimum requirements render that chassis ineligible for competition until minimum standards are met or exceeded Drilling of holes to lighten any part of the body, chassis, suspension or bolts is not permitted Only steel round, rectangular or square tube is approved for roll cage or chassis construction of any main or supporting sub-structures. Wall thickness, size and/or diameters are specified where necessary A four (4) point roll cage structure with three (3) horizontal driver side outward arched door bars and three (3) door bars, or a cross brace on the passenger side door is mandatory All main cage tubing, down support tubing, door bars and the roof halo must be constructed using a minimum 1 ¾.095 steel tubing All other bars must be constructed of a minimum of 1 ½ x.083 steel tubing. All major intersections must be gusseted and completely welded Driver Side Door Plates A left side driver door plate is mandatory A minimum of.125 (1/8) thickness steel plate must be welded to the outside of the driver door bars. 17. BASIC CHASSIS COMPONENTS Steering Column and Steering Wheel Page 5

6 Steering components, steering arms, tie rod ends, idlers, etc. must remain stock for the year, make and model of the car being used Quick-release metal to metal steering wheel hubs are mandatory The center of all steering wheels must be padded Steering shaft must be padded or encased by protective sleeve, and resilient padding SFI Specification 45.1, up to but not including the release mechanism. 18. TRANSMISSION Standard and Automatic Transmissions permitted 19. FRONT SUSPENSION Absolutely no modification of suspension parts or locating points is permitted All control arms and/or struts must use the stock mounting points There is no limit on the camber of the right or left front wheel. Camber may be obtained by slotting of camber adjustment on spindle/strut, or by slotting the top of the strut mounting plate Absolutely no cutting, bending, or welding on any strut, spindle or A-arms permitted. Offset ball joints are permitted NO BUMP STOPS PERMITTED Suspension travel limiters are not permitted on any part of the suspension or chassis Spring rubbers are permitted and must be removed manually No removal devices may extend outside of the body of the car, or be accessible in the driver s compartment. CAMBER NOTE: THE ATTEMPT TO OBTAIN MORE OR LESS CAMBER MAY RESULT IN THE INTERFERENCE OF SUSPENSION PARTS TO THE TIRE SIDEWALL. DOING SO CAN CAUSE CATASTROPHIC FAILURE AND/OR INJURY. 20. REAR SUSPENSION Stock axles must remain in the stock location for the year, make and model of the car being used Modifications of locating arms and/or locating arm mounts is strictly prohibited. 21. BRAKES Brakes must be working on all four (4) wheels Slotting or drilling of brake rotors is prohibited. 22. SHOCKS The shocks and/or struts must remain completely stock or stock replacement for the year, make and model of the car being used NO BUMP STOPS PERMITTED 23. WHEELS/TIRES Aftermarket 7 racing wheels with no less than 4 backspacing permitted on the left front, left rear, and right rear. Page 6

7 23.2. Only 13, 14, 15 wheels with a maximum width of 7 are permitted on the left front, left rear, and right rear An optional Aftermarket 8 racing wheels with no less than 4 backspacing permitted on the Right front only. Must be 13, 14, or 15 wheel Measuring Backspacing: 1. Place the wheel, face down, on the ground 2. Get a straight edge that will span from lip to lip (see red in diagram below). 3. Measure from the bottom of the straight edge straight down to the mounting face of the wheel (see green in diagram below). 4. As of 2018 front right option 8 wheel permitted which comply with 4 backspacing requirement. 24. WHEEL STUDS AND SPACERS All wheels must be fastened with open steel lug nuts At least two (2) threads must be visible on the outside of the lug nut after tightening the wheel to the hub Wheel spacers are prohibited. 25. OFFICIAL TRACK TIRE: American Racer 23.0/ AR / AR / AR782 FIGURE #1 MEASURING BAKSPACING 26. BODY: All exterior trim, including lights, body moldings, mirrors, etc. must be removed All cars are required to have a front bumper cover, hood, both front fenders, windshield, all doors (2 or 4 depending on model), both quarter panels, deck lid (must enclose trunk area), and a rear bumper cover Pillars A and C must remain stock Stock or stock appearing body panels must be used No flat-sided fabricated bodies or aluminum sheeting body panels Stock appearing bumpers and bumper covers, including made for oval racing or aftermarket covers, may be used if the shape, size, or style resembles the factory parts Down force, shovel, or dirt late model bumper covers are not allowed Doors must be bolted or welded shut Doors may be skinned. Interior may be skinned to allow room for roll cage and safety equipment. Page 7

8 Skirting on the front and sides is permitted, but must not extend greater than ½ beyond the outside width of the tires, and must not have sharp protruding edges or ends No splitters are allowed No rear air diffusers allowed No venting of interior, floor, hood, fenders, roof, quarters, doors, or trunk panels (except for fuel cell and driver ventilation systems) is allowed No aftermarket hood scoops Brake cooling ducts or vents, connected to the front bumper cover, are permitted All body panels must be securely attached to the car at the beginning of the racing event Anybody panel, wheel opening, or body attachment that is deemed illegal or unsafe, must be corrected at the direction of track officials before the car will be permitted onto the racing surface Cars must have stock frame, stock firewall, and stock floor pans, complete and unmodified All openings in floor and firewall must be covered Trunk floor may be modified or removed to allow for fuel cell installation Hood and deck lid must be secured with a minimum of two hood pins each All glass must be removed from the vehicle except for the front windshield All flammable interior trim and sharp trim brackets must be removed from the interior and trunk areas All air bags must be removed. 27. WINDSHIELD/WINDOWS Front windshield may be replaced with lexan (polycarbonate) or dirt screen If using a lexan windshield, a center brace supporting the lexan is recommended If using a dirt screen, 3 safety bars in front of the driver are required, plus a full face helmet with eye protection is required Side windows must be lexan, and design may only be made to replace stock side windows of that make/model car Windows limiting the ability of the driver to exit the car are prohibited Lexan quarter windows are permitted Lexan windows must be see-through, and not tinted or painted over in any way Rear windows are considered optional and must be lexan if used. 28. SPOILERS Rear deck spoilers are allowed Maximum spoiler size is 5 tall and 50 wide. Maximum height of spoiler may not exceed 5 above the deck lid surface Fabricated spoilers must be see through (lexan) or, metal may be substituted if the spoiler does not limit visibility, so hand gestures and signals may be clearly seen Any spoiler deemed unsafe by track officials must be removed before the car will be permitted on the racing surface No verticals, shark fins, billboards, or similar devices allowed The front edge of the spoiler must be within 4 of the rear edge of the deck lid, measured horizontally Spoilers may not extend more than 3 beyond the rear edge of the deck lid, measured horizontally. 9 No roof mounted spoilers are allowed No window mounted spoilers or any other window mounted aerodynamic devices are permitted Window mounted NACA ducts for driver ventilation systems are permitted No brake lights, strobe lights, under-car mounted lights, or headlamps are allowed Ballast must be securely attached to the car (welded or bolted) in a manner that will not allow it to become detached during an impact All ballast must be painted white and have the car number clearly marked on it. No ballast is permitted inside the driver s compartment. 28. PAINT & NUMBERS: Car numbers must appear on both doors and roof of car Each number must be a minimum of 24 high Roof number must read from scorers stand Minimum 4 number must appear on upper right hand corner of windshield and in right rear tail light area. No Duct Tape All numbering jobs must meet with scorer s approval Single or double digit numbers only. No letters or triple digits permitted Contrasting solid color numbers only All car numbers must be registered with Jennerstown Speedway All returning drivers in the same division will have thirty (30) days from the date of the registration event to register their number All cars must be neat in appearance. 29. SAFETY: General IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE DRIVER, Not the TRACK OFFICIALS, OR THE PROMOTER TO INSURE HIS/HERS PROTECTIVE CLOTHING, SAFETY RESTRAINT SYSTEMS, SEAT AND ALL OTHER SAFETY ITEMS INSTALLED CORRECTLY, PROPERLY MAINTAINED AND USED Must have all standard safety equipment including two (2) drive shaft safety hoops Helmets All driver s will wear a full-face helmet that meet a minimum safety rating of Snell SA2010/FIA-8860, Snell SA2015/FIA-8860 or SFI 31/1/ Head and Neck restraints required. The head and neck restraint system should be mounted and connected to the helmet per the helmet manufacture and head and neck manufacture instructions Arm restraints are recommended and should be connected and used as instructed by the manufacture Seat Belt/Restraint System Minimum 5-point seat & shoulder harness system minimum 3 wide and maximum required Each car should be equipped with minimum of an SFI 16.5 or SFI 16.1 approved restraint system, until the date of the belt expiration (two years from the date of Page 9

10 manufacturer). Seat belt restraint systems shall be installed and used in accordance with manufacturer s instructions Seat belt material should not be permitted to come in contact with any sharp or metal edge, including when the material passes through the seat metal Rolled and/or de-burred and/or flanged edges or anywhere seatbelt webbing passes though and may come in contact with abrasive edge are recommended Cockpit Window Net An approved driver s cockpit net required. The net must be a minimum of three ribbons and meet SFI 37.1 specifications, installed per the manufactures specifications Protective Clothing All drivers will be required to wear a fire resistant driving uniform meeting minimum of the SFI 3.2A/5 specification and display a valid SFI 3.2A/5 label Drivers must wear gloves at all times they are on track during practice and competitions Driver s gloves must meet or exceed the SFI 3.3 specification and have a legible and valid SFI 3.3 label Seat All cars must be equipped with an aluminum safe racing seat, high back type recommended. Aluminum seats with an FIA and/or SFI 39.2 rating are recommended All seats must be mounted to the frame as required by the seat and chassis manufacturer. Full containment seat(s) and/or aftermarket bolt on head restraints are recommended All areas surrounding the head should have padding The driver s seat must be securely fastened to the frame and/or cage in six positions with a minimum if six (6) 3/8 -inch bolts. There should be a minimum of four (4) bolts on the bottom and two (2) in the back of the seat. All seats must be a minimum of 1/8 -inch magnetic steel plate under and up the back 4 inches and be as wide as the seat The seat must be positioned completely to the left of the centerline of the car (no center steering) on the driver s side NO FIBERGLASS SEATS Safety Other Fire extinguisher must be a minimum of 5 lbs. and be mounted securely within driver s reach and be fully charged An approved head and neck restraint system is HIGHLY recommended A neutral safety switch or brake depression switch is mandatory Only SFI frame retardant seat, roll bar, knee and steering pads and/or padding should be utilized.
