4 INTRODUCTION Congratulations on purchasing an Ozito 12V Cordless Air Pump APR-012. We aim to provide quality tools at an affordable price. Your Ozito Cordless Air Pump has been designed to inflate car and bike tyres, sports/gym balls and the like. This product is intended for DIY use only. ELECTRICAL SAFETY! WARNING! When using mains-powered tools, basic safety precautions, including the following, should always be followed to reduce risk of fire, electric shock, personal injury and material damage. Read the whole manual carefully and make sure you know how to switch the tool off, in an emergency, before operating the tool. Save these instructions and other documents supplied with this machine for future reference. This tool is double insulated in accordance with AS/NZS ; therefore no earth wire is required. If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by an electrician or a power tool repairer in order to avoid a hazard. Note: Double insulation does not take the place of normal safety precautions when operating this tool. The insulation system is for added protection against injury resulting from a possible electrical insulation failure within the tool. Using an Extension Lead Always use an approved extension lead suitable for the power input of this tool. Before use, inspect the extension lead for signs of damage, wear and ageing. Replace the extension lead if damaged or defective. When using an extension lead on a reel, always unwind the lead completely. Use of an extension lead not suitable for the power input of the tool or which is damaged or defective may result in a risk of fire and electric shock. It is recommended that the extension lead is a maximum of 25m in length. Do Not use multiple extension leads. 3

Distractions can cause you to lose control. 2) Electrical safety a) Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock. b) Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded. c) Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock. d) Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock. e) When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock. f) If operating a power tool in a damp location is unavoidable, use a residual current device (RCD) protected supply. Use of an RCD reduces the risk of electric shock. 3) Personal safety a) Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury. b) Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection. Protective equipment such as dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries. c) Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting to power source and/or battery pack, picking up or carrying the tool. Carrying power tools with your finger on the switch or energising power tools that have the switch on invites accidents. d) Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury. e) Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations. 4

Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can be caught in moving parts. g) If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection facilities, ensure these are connected and properly used. Use of dust collection can reduce dust-related hazards. 4) Power tool use and care a) Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed. b) Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any power tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired. c) Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or the battery pack from the power tool before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally. d) Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users. e) Maintain power tools. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tool s operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools. f) Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control. g) Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc. in accordance with these instructions, taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the power tool for operations different from those intended could result in a hazardous situation. 5) Battery tool use and care a) Recharge only with the charger specified by the manufacturer. A charger that is suitable for one type of battery pack may create a risk of fire when used with another battery pack. b) Use power tools only with specifically designated battery packs. Use of any other battery packs may create a risk of injury and fire. c) When battery pack is not in use, keep it away from other metal objects, like paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws or other small metal objects, that can make a connection from one terminal to another. Shorting the battery terminals together may cause burns or a fire. d) Under abusive conditions, liquid may be ejected from the battery; avoid contact. If contact accidentally occurs, flush with water. If liquid contacts eyes, additionally seek medical help. Liquid ejected from the battery may cause irritation or burns. 6) Service a) Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the power tool is maintained. b) If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent or similarly qualified persons in order to avoid a hazard.

7 BATTERY & CHARGING SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS THIS MANUAL CONTAINS IMPORTANT SAFETY AND OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS FOR YOUR BATTERY CHARGER. Before using the charger, read all instructions and cautionary markings on the charger, the battery pack and the product using the battery pack.!! Danger! If the battery pack case is cracked or damaged, do not insert into charger. There is a danger of electric shock or electrocution. Warning! Don t allow any liquid to get inside charger. Electric shock may result. To facilitate cooling of the battery pack after use, avoid placing the charger or battery pack in a warm environment such as in a metal shed, or an uninsulated trailer. This charger is not intended for any uses other than charging rechargeable batteries. Any other use may result in the risk of fire, electric shock or electrocution. Do not place any objects on top of the battery or charging stand whilst it's being charged, doing so may result in excessive internal heat. Place the battery and charging stand away from other heat sources when recharging the battery. To reduce the risk of damage to the transformer and cord, pull by the transformer rather than the cord when disconnecting the transformer from the power supply (power point). Make sure the cord is located so that it will not be stepped on, tripped over, or otherwise subjected to damage or stress. An extension cord should not be used unless absolutely necessary. Use of an improper extension cord could result in the risk of fire, electric shock or electrocution. Do not operate the transformer and stand if they have received a sharp blow, been dropped or otherwise damaged in any way. Do not disassemble the transformer or charging stand if service or repair is required. Incorrect reassembling may result in a risk of electric shock, electrocution or fire. New chargers can be obtained through Ozito by your local Bunnings special orders desk. To reduce the risk of electric shock, unplug the transformer from the socket outlet before attempting any cleaning. Never attempt to connect 2 separate transformers together. DO NOT store or use the battery in locations where the temperature may reach or exceed 40ºC (such as outside sheds or metal buildings in summer). The transformer is designed to operate on standard household electrical power ( volts). Do not attempt to use it on any other voltage. The longest life and best performance can be obtained if the battery is charged when the air temperature is between 18-24ºC. Do not charge the battery in an air temperature below 10º C or above 40º C. This is important and will prevent damage. Do not incinerate battery even if it is seriously damaged or completely worn out. Batteries can explode in a fire. Never attempt to open batteries for any reason. If the plastic housing breaks or cracks, immediately discontinue use and do not recharge. 6

8 ADDITIONAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS FOR CORDLESS AIR PUMPS This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety. Recommendations for the use of a residual current device with a rated residual current of 30mA or less. SET-UP AND PREPARATION Battery The length of service from each charging will depend on the type of work being performed. the 12V battery pack (5) in the air pump has been designed to provide maximum trouble free life. However, like all batteries, they will eventually wear out. To obtain the longest possible battery life, we suggest the following: Store and charge the 12V battery pack (5) in a cool area. Temperatures above or below normal room temperature will shorten battery life. Never store the air pump in a discharged condition. Recharge the 12V battery pack (5) immediately after having been discharged. All batteries gradually lose their charge. The higher the temperature, the quicker they lose their charge. If you store your air pump for long periods of time without using it, recharge the batteries every two or three months. This practice will prolong battery life. 7

9 SET-UP AND PREPARATION (cont.) Charging the Battery The air pump has been shipped in a low charge condition. First read the safety instructions and then follow the charging procedures. 1. Plug the AC charger adaptor (17) in an appropriate AC power outlet and switch on at the mains. 2. Insert the charger jack (14) into the charger cradle socket (15) (Fig.1). Fig.1 Fig.2 3. With the 12V battery pack (5) sitting flat on a bench/table, place the recess of the charging cradle over the battery terminal ensuring a firm connection (Fig.2). Upon proper contact, the red light will illuminate. NOTE: The 12V battery pack (5) fits one way only. Ensure the + and - markings on the recess side of the cradle are matched to those of the battery terminal. The 12V battery pack (5) will take approximately 3-5 hours to charge. This may vary up to 7 hours due to the level of charge left in the batteries and also the ambient temperature. Once the 12V battery pack (5) is fully charged, it is recommended that the charger is disconnected from the power supply. NOTE: When the 12V battery pack (5) charge runs out after continuous use or exposure to direct sunlight or heat, allow time for the 12V battery pack (5) to cool down before recharging to achieve the full charge. Removing / Installing 12V Battery Pack to the Air Pump Handle Always switch off the air pump before insertion or removal of the 12V battery pack (5). 1. Locate the latches on the sides of the 12V battery pack (5) and depress. Pull the 12V battery pack (5) from the handle of the air pump (Fig.3). 2. After recharging, slide the 12V battery pack (5) into the handle of the air pump; ensure the battery pack release buttons (4) on either side of the 12V battery pack (5) click into place and the 12V battery pack (5) is secured prior to using Fig.3 the air pump. Note: Do not use force when inserting the 12V battery pack (5). If the 12V battery pack (5) does not slide in easily; it is not being inserted correctly. 8

10 SET-UP AND PREPARATION (cont.) Assembling the 12V Cigarette Lighter Adaptor The Ozito Cordless Air Pump can be powerd by the 12V battery pack (5) or from the 12V cigarette lighter adaptor (13) supplied with the air pump. 1. To operate with the 12V cigarette lighter adaptor (13), remove the 12V battery pack (5) from the base air pump. 2. Plug the charger jack at the end of the 12V cigarette lighter adaptor (13) into the 12V cigarette lighter adaptor jack socket (18) located on the underside of the base. 3. Turn your car key to the ignition (ALL) position and plug the 12V cigarette lighter adaptor (13) into the 12V cigarette lighter socket of your vehicle. 4. The air pump will operate from the 12V cigarette lighter adaptor (13) without the 12V battery pack (5) connected. Assembling Extension Hose 1. Unscrew the locking collar (1) anti-clockwise. 2. Insert the male threaded end of the flexible extension hose (9) through the locking collar (1) and into the rubber sleeve (Fig.4). Fig.4 Fig.5 3. Screw the flexible extension hose (9) into the rubber sleeve until the crimped silver flexible extension hose (9) fitting touches the locking collar (1). 4. Tighten the locking collar (1) clockwise until finger tight (Fig.5). Inserting/Removing Accessories 1. Remove the accessory adaptor (10,11,12) from the accessories holder (6) at the base of the air pump. 2. Hold the brass section of the flexible extension hose (9) stationary, while screwing in the male threaded end of the accessory clockwise until finger tight. NOTE: Do not use pliers or multigrips to tighten accessories as this action risks stripping the thread. Caution: DO NOT cross thread when assembling the accessories. Doing so can damage the thread. 9

11 OPERATION Turning On/Off To lock, slide the safety-lock switch (8) to the left-hand position ( lock ). To unlock, slide the safety-lock switch (8) to the right hand position ( unlock ). To turn the air pump on, squeeze the on/off safety lock switch (8) is in the unlock position. To turn off, release the on/off switch (7). Air Pressure Gauge An air pressure gauge (3) is included in the rear of the air pump, this can be used as a guide for inflation. Connect and pump the target as previously described. Release the on/off switch (7) (so the pump ceases to operate). To gain a true indication of pressure, leave the air pump connected to the target object. Now look squarely into the gauge dial to attain the pressure reading. Note: Looking at the gauge dial at an angle with give false readings. Pressure gauge readings will not be accurate when the air pump is switched on, only take final readings when the switch has been released. Inflating 1. The air pump should not be operated for extended periods of time without being allowed to cool. 2. Operate the air pump for a maximum of 10 minute intervals, and then allow to rest for 10 minutes. If the air pump is used continuously for long periods, this could cause the pump piston within the air pump to over heat and prematurely wear out. 3. Know the manufacturer s recommended value of pressure for the target object before inflating. Follow the recommended values. Ozito Industries will not be responsible for damage caused to targets by the user administering incorrect pressure levels. This will void the warranty. 4. To attach the pump to the target object. Hold the brass section of the flexible extension hose (9) end, align it with the male threaded end of the target object s valve, and screw in clockwise until finger tight. Do not use pliers or multigrips to connect the valves. 5. Ensure there are no leakage problems with the connection between the air pump and the target. Note: If the target object is already pressurised, some air leakage may occur while in process of fully attaching and creating a seal. In this case it is important to work quickly to avoid excessive loss of air / pressure. 6. Unlock the safety lock switch (8), and turn the air pump on to begin inflating of the target object. 7. Periodically, release the on/off switch (7), check the air pressure gauge (3) (see Air Pressure Gauge section - Pg10) and squeeze the target object to judge the level of inflation. 8. After use, reactivate the safety lock switch (8) to avoid accidental start-up. 9. To remove the pump from the target object, reverse the attaching procedure. 10

Inflating Tyres Most tyre valves will connect directly with the flexible extension hose s (9) brass fitting but some tyres may have specialised valves in which case, one of the brass accessory adaptors (10, 11) provided may need to be used. Inflating Other Objects To inflate other pneumatic toys, sport balls, gym balls and blow up beach/pool apparatuses etc. with air, use the general inflating adaptor (12) or ball adaptor (10), following the instructions on the relevant apparatus. MAINTENANCE To prevent dirt, dust and other debris from entering the air pump, ensure the ventilation slots of the air pump are clean and clear of the ground and all fittings are clean. Should the air pump not be used for prolonged periods of time, recharge the batteries every two months. Keep the ventilation slots of the air pump clean at all times. If possible prevent foreign matter from entering the vents. After each use, blow air through the air pump to ensure it is free from all dust particles which may build up. Build up of dust particles may cause the air pump to over heat and fail. If the housing of the air pump requires cleaning do not use solvents but a moist soft cloth only. Never let any liquid get inside the air pump; never immerse any part of the air pump into a liquid. Note: Ozito Industries will not be responsible for any damage or injuries caused by the repair of the air pump by an unauthorised person or by mishandling of the air pump. 11

Button will not depress. Button depresses but pump does not work. The air pump body gets hot after extensive use. The battery pack gets warm during use. The battery pack and/or charger gets warm when charging. Battery won t charge. Light on charge isn t showing. SOLUTION This is a normal part of operation of a tool. The safety-lock switch may be in the locked position. Move it to the unlock position and try again. The pump is dependant on sufficient charge in the battery pack. The battery charge will deplete if not used for a long period of time. Try recharging the battery pack. Under normal use conditions, this is normal. Allow the pump to cool for 5 minutes. The power from the battery creates heat. The battery pack will not be damaged. Allow the pump to cool for a short period of time. This is normal as a result of the stepping down of the chemical reactions inside the batteries during the charging process. Check to see that the battery is properly inserted into the charging base, and make sure the indicator light is on. The charger plug may not be properly inserted into the charging stand or the plug may not be connected with the main power outlet. 12
