1 VOLUME 27 ISSUE 9 NOVEMBER 17-23, 2015 College Football 11/21 College Football 11/21 Pro Football 11/22 MEMPHIS over Temple by 13 THE MIDWEEK BEST BETS MISSOURI over Tennessee by 6 MINNESOTA over Green Bay by 10 The leader of the AAC East hosts the 3rd place team in the AAC West and yet they are home dogs. On the surface, it appears the wrong team is favored in this contest, but no so when you drill deeper into your MIDWEEK. That s because the host Owls have done most of their damage with special teams and insideout stats. Temple enters the game 8-2 overall and 5-1 in the East, winning the stats by a mere 4 YPG on the season thanks to a mediocre 5-5 ITS mark on the year. On the other side of the coin, Memphis is 8-2 overall and 4-2 in the West, but is 7-3 ITS, winning the stats by 108 YPG. Furthermore, each team has faced three common foes (Cincinnati, Tulane and USF). The Tigers win the net stats 59 YPG whole the Owls lose them 64 YPG. That s 123 YPG combined in Memphis favor. And now you know why they are the favorite. Back the better team in this smoke-and-mirrors special. Emotion can carry a team a long way in a college football game. And with it we expect to see unparalleled passion on display here today in head coach Gary Pinkel s final home game with the Tigers. We caught a glimpse of it last week when the Tigers took the field after Pinkel and the football team backed the university student body in a demand for student equality. The result was an inspired effort in a takedown of BYU at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City. Today they return home for Pinkel s swan song in what should be a raucous celebration by players and fans alike. Pinkel s sterling 20-3 SU mark in Last Home Games comes into play. As does his 15-2 SUATS mark at home in games with a losing record when not installed as a double-digit dog. To top it off, the Tigers own a Top 10-ranked defense, one that is 83 YPG superior to that of the Volunteers. And thus we have a bonfire in the making. New kids on the block, the Vikings find themselves sitting atop the NFC North black-and-blue division. Minnesota s startling turnaround began with the hire of HC Mike Zimmer and it has perpetuated since. Under Zimmer s guidance, the Vikes have gone 16-3 ATS in the last 19 games (7-0 ATS the last seven games), including 11-1 ATS when seeking revenge. In addition, Zimmer s quarterback Teddy Bridgewater brings a 17-4 ATS mark as a starter into this contest, including 12-1 ATS when his team is in an avenging role. The key to the matchup, though, is Green Bay s porous 24th-ranked rush defense. That fits like a silk pillowcase into Minny s topranked rush offense. Then there is the case of the mighty team that has fallen. Out database reminds us that NFL teams that have started 6-0 or better tend to go into prolonged slumps immediately after dropping their first game of the season (Packers are now 0-3 SUATS last three games). The bottom line is there is a new generation leading the charge in the NFC North and they reside in Minnesota. THE MIDWEEK CONTENDERS College: GEORGIA SOUTHERN, LSU NFL: ST.
