1.0 General The Emergency Services Trailer electrical controls are located on the right hand panel as you enter the trailer through the personnel door.

2 1.0 General The Emergency Services Trailer electrical controls are located on the right hand panel as you enter the trailer through the personnel door. Power can be supplied to the trailer from an external 120 VAC source, either from a 3000 Watt Honda Electrical Generator or a 30 Amp power cord connected to a 30 amp receptacle from Commercial power, or internally for about 3 hours from 12 volt batteries and a 12 volt Dc to 120 VAC Inverter. Most electrical items in the trailer are run from the 12 volt system, Lights, Exhaust Fans, Amateur Radio, Message Board and Controller, and Television Amplified Antenna System. The LCD Flat Screen Television, Coffee Maker, Microwave Oven and counter mounted receptacles require 120 VAC. Roof mounted Solar Cells and a cabinet mounted charger maintain battery charge when the trailer is not in use and parked outside. When stored inside, battery charge is maintained through the Commercial Power connection and the Tripp-Lite main battery charger. The Solar Cells and Charger are designed to maintain a float charge on the batteries only, and are not designed to deliver 12 volt power to any load. A Wiring Diagram for the Trailer Electrical is shown in Appendix A and a Wiring Diagram for Television System is shown in Appendix B of this document. 2.0 12 volt Master Switch There is a 12 volt Master Switch located in the upper right hand corner of the Trailer Electrical Control Panel.

The Red Key is attached to the Trailer Key Ring and cannot be removed from the slot in the On Position.

3 volt Master Switch There is a 12 volt Master Switch located in the upper right hand corner of the Trailer Electrical Control Panel. This is a Fail Safe switch designed to ensure no 12 volt connected items can discharge the batteries when the trailer is not in use. The Red Key is attached to the Trailer Key Ring and cannot be removed from the slot in the On Position. Upon unlocking the door and entering the trailer, put the Red Key in the slot and turn it On by rotating clockwise. This Red Key and the trailer door keys stay in that position while the trailer is in use. Upon shutting down the Trailer, turn the key to the Off position by rotating counterclockwise, remove the key, and lock up the trailer. 3.0 Solar Cell Ammeter The Ammeter, located next to the Fail Safe switch, is used as an indicator that the Solar Cells are charging the battery. When the Trailer is not in use and parked outside in the daylight there should be an indication on this meter. Depending on the state of charge of the batteries, this meter will read from 1 to 6 Amps. 4.0 Tripp-Lite Battery DC-to-AC Inverter/Charger Model APS2012 The Tripp-Lite Power Inverter/Charger is designed to provide 120 VAC power to the trailer from the two gel cell 12 volt storage batteries. The batteries are rated at 75 amp-hour each for a total of 150 amp-hour. The Inverter will provide 16.7 amps continuous at 120 VAC to power the trailer 120 VAC loads. In addition, with external 120 VAC power from either the external commercial power system or the Honda generator, the unit will charge the gel cell batteries at a maximum rate of 25 amps DC. When the switch is positioned to the left, the power inverter is in the Auto/Invert mode and is supplying 120 VAC to the trailer from the 12 Volt DC batteries Tripp-Lite Controller and 12 Volt DC to

4 4.0 Continued The Tripp-Lite controller is located on the left of the Solar Cell current meter on the Trailer Electrical Controls Panel. This device controls how the AC power is delivered to the trailer and how the batteries are charged. When the switch is positioned to the left, the power inverter is in the Auto/Invert mode and is supplying 120 VAC to the trailer from the 12 Volt DC batteries Tripp-Lite Controller and 12 Volt DC to the trailer is supplied by the batteries. If an external 120 VAC source is connected, it is also charging the batteries. The three LED indicators indicate the charge condition of the batteries, Red, Yellow, Green. When the switch is positioned to the right, the inverter is in the Charge-Only mode and with 120 VAC power connected, either commercial AC power or the Honda generator, is charging the batteries only and not delivering 120 VAC to the trailer. Again the three LED indicators indicate the charge condition of the batteries, Red, Yellow, Green. NOTE: This is the position the switch should be left in on shutting down the trailer volt Fuse Box To supply 12 Volt DC to the trailer, the batteries are connected to a Fuse Bus. This Fuse Bus is located to the right of the batteries and contains a 150 circuit breaker and individual automotive type fuses. If 12 volt DC is lost, this should be the first place you check. If the breaker is open a reset lever will stick out from the left side of the breaker. Pushing the lever back into the breaker will reset it. There is a cover on this bus, which should remain on, to prevent foreign objects from shorting the wiring in the Bus Box. A supply of 10, 15 and 20 amp blade fuses must be maintained in this cabinet. This cabinet must be locked, at all times. To prevent an electrical short, nothing should be stored in cabinet. 6.0 Interior Lighting Master Switch All interior lights are 12 volt with individual switches. However, the Interior Lighting Master Switch must be On for the lights to work. This Master Switch should be Off when the Trailer is shutdown. Emergency Services Trailer Page 4 of 9

5 7.0 Exterior Light Switches A NewMar 12 volt DC panel, located on the right side of the Trailer Electrical Controls Panel, below the 12 Volt Master Switch, has three switches which control the Outside Lights. From Left to Right, these switches control: 1. Outside, side lights 2. Outside, Pole spot and flood lights 3. Outside, Emergency red and blue lights There are two lights mounted to the pole. There is a switch located on each light, that changes the light intensity from 70 watts to 50 watts, each. NewMar 12 volt Panel These switches should be Off when the Trailer is shutdown. 8.0 Honda Model EU3000IS Electrical Generator The Emergency Services Trailer is equipped with a 3000 Watt Honda gasoline generator. It will deliver 3.0 KVA, 25 amps maximum at 120 VAC (1.0 power factor) intermittent, but is rated at 2.8 KVA, 23.3 amps continuous duty at 120 VAC (1.0 power factor). This is an electric start model. You should connect one end of the blue power cord to the trailer and the other end to the 30 amp twist lock receptacle on the generator. The generator also has (1) 15 amp duplex 120 VAC receptacle for powering external loads. Keep in mind the total power draw for both the trailer and external loads cannot exceed the generator rating. Honda Generator A 12 volt DC connector is also provided. It is rated at 12 amps maximum and is only to be used to charge an automotive type lead acid battery. Do not connect it to other type of load, especially radios. It will damage your equipment! There is also a spare generator, in the event more power is needed. Emergency Services Trailer Page 5 of 9

9.0 External 120 VAC Power Connection Power is provided from either an external AC source or generator.

The blue power cord, pictured on the right, is provided for use with the generator. A similar Yellow power cord is provided for connecting to Commercial power.

Do not attempt to plug the Trailer into a standard 15 or 20 Amp receptacle, from Commercial Power. You will trip the Circuit Breaker! Power Cord 10.

6 9.0 External 120 VAC Power Connection Power is provided from either an external AC source or generator. A 30 Amp AC receptacle can be found underneath a weather proof cover, on the left front side of the trailer. There are two different power cords provided. The blue power cord, pictured on the right, is provided for use with the generator. A similar Yellow power cord is provided for connecting to Commercial power. Both power cords have 30 amp AC twist-lock connectors on them. Be sure to align the key of the connector to the receptacle on the trailer before twisting. Do not attempt to plug the Trailer into a standard 15 or 20 Amp receptacle, from Commercial Power. You will trip the Circuit Breaker! Power Cord VAC Circuit Breaker Panel The 120 VAC Circuit Breaker Panel is located In the middle of the Trailer Electrical Controls Panel at the Bottom. There are four 20 amp breakers located in the panel. From the top, these breakers control: 1. Front cabinet receptacles 2. Center (three) cabinet receptacles 3. Coffee pot and microwave oven 4. Television and outside receptacles Circuit Breaker Panel 11.0 Amateur Radio Station The Emergency Services Trailer is equipped with a Amateur Radio Operator s Station. A dual band, VHF/UHF Yaesu FT-8800R radio is mounted beneath the upper cabinet and the antenna, a Diamond Model NR2000A, is installed on the roof of the trailer. 12.0 LED Message Display Board The Trailer has an outside scrolling LED Display Message Board, controlled from the Whelen Smart Arrow Messenger Controller mounted on the left side of

0 LCD Flat Screen Television System The LCD Flat Screen TV requires 120 VAC power and is plugged in to the 120 VAC Power Strip located below it on the counter top.

One is an RF input from a roof mounted Winegard amplified antenna and the other is a DirecTV Audio/Video input supplied by a Converter Box, also plugged in to the 120 VAC Power Strip

7 12.0 LED Message Display Board The Trailer has an outside scrolling LED Display Message Board, controlled from the Whelen Smart Arrow Messenger Controller mounted on the left side of the Trailer Electrical Services Panel next to the Tripp-Lite Control Unit. The Message Board is located on the upper rear section of the Trailer. There are several pre-programmed messages already stored in this device. Once powered on, you can use the up and down arrows to scroll through these pre-programmed messages. Once located, use the DSP button to display the message. Message Display Controller 13.0 LCD Flat Screen Television System The LCD Flat Screen TV requires 120 VAC power and is plugged in to the 120 VAC Power Strip located below it on the counter top. The TV has two sources. One is an RF input from a roof mounted Winegard amplified antenna and the other is a DirecTV Audio/Video input supplied by a Converter Box, also plugged in to the 120 VAC Power Strip on the counter, and external tripod mounted Satellite Dish. The selection of what source is selected for viewing is via the LCD TV Remote. In order for the amplified Winegard Antenna to work, the power switch on the outlet cover located below the counter must be On and the Trailer batteries must be supplying 12 volt power to the Trailer.
