1 Purpose Statement The Diesel Technician Program prepares students for entry level employment as Diesel Technicians. The program graduates students with skills and knowledge to progress quickly from trainee to fully productive status in a relatively short time Diesel Technician (CSC) Russell Hicks Print Unit Plans Unit Planning Home 1 : Student Learning Diesel Engines Studies the basic diesel internal combustion engine including, cylinder block, cylinder heads, crankshaft, pistons, fuel systems, cooling systems, induction systems, tune-ups, adjustments, and troubleshooting mechanical problems Courses: DSL181, DSL131, DSL111, DSL hands-on tasks to complete on the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF) task list. Training software, DVD s, lab, quiz, Mid Term exam, Final exam, and shop 1 of 11 2/6/15, 3:10 PM
2 report. Diesel Engine has 90 tasks that the students are graded 1-5 on, with a 3 being able to perform task with assistance. Students percentage of Scores completing all 90 tasks: 5=11% 4=87% 3=2% 2=0% 1=0% The Task/tasks students had the most problems with: Inspect and test exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system. Including EGR valve, cooler, piping, electronic sensors, controls, wiring and determine action needed. The Diesel program is very happy with these overall percentages and we depend on the Truck Driving program for a lot of its hands on training. The newest truck they have available is a 2005 model and there have been a lot of changes in emissions since then. We will add more lecture time on EGR systems. This is a on-going problem that will be fixed with time. 1 : Program Operational Diesel Engines Studies the basic diesel internal combustion engine including, cylinder block, cylinder heads, crankshaft, pistons, fuel systems, cooling systems, induction systems, tune-ups, adjustments, and troubleshooting mechanical problems Courses: DSL181, DSL131, DSL111, DSL hands-on tasks to complete on the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF) task list.
