2 ARRI MAX Technology ARRI MAX Technology More light, less work With the Academy Award-winning, lensless 18/12 ARRIMAX, ARRI unveiled a new type of reflector. It was used again for the M18, which introduced a new power class and redefined on-set workflows. These fixtures made lighting easier and demand increased for the same technology to be applied to traditional power classes; this led to the release of the M40 and M90, establishing the concept of an entire product range positioned under the banner of MAX Technology. MAX Technology is a unique reflector design invented and patented by ARRI. Combining the best elements of PAR and Fresnel fixtures, units incorporating MAX Technology are open-face and thus very bright. They are focusable over a range of 35 or more, producing a clear, crisp shadow. With the M8 at one end and the ARRIMAX 18/12 at the other, the M-Series is now complete. Comprising five state-ofthe-art lampheads that between them offer a range of nine evenly-staggered wattage options from 800 W up to 18,000 W, the M-Series represents a comprehensive daylight toolset of the highest quality. The most recent addition to the MAX Family is the M8, which is the smallest lighting fixture in ARRI s highly successful M-Series of HMI lampheads. MAX Technology means more light but less work. It speeds up working practices by eliminating the need to handle heavy, breakable lenses on set, reducing the total cost of ownership and simplifying inventory. Due to these advantages, MAX Technology has already been extended to other lampheads such as the tungsten ARRILITE 750 Plus and ARRILITE 2000 Plus, and will continue to be employed in more products in the future. 3 ARRI M A X Te c h n o l o g y M8: 800 W Daylight M18: 1.8 kw Daylight M40: 4/2.5 kw Daylight M90: 9/6 kw Daylight The M8 is the latest and smallest lighting fixture in ARRI s highly successful M-Series of HMI lampheads. The combination of an open face design and the unrivalled efficiency of the MAX reflector makes the M8 exceptionally bright; in fact, the light output produced by its 800 W lamp comes close to the output from a 1,200 W Fresnel or PAR (with lens). The unit can be focused between 15 and 62 just by turning the focus knob, producing a remarkably even light field and a crisp, clear shadow. The M18 BABYMAX combines MAX Technology, True Blue features and a new 1,800 W lamp. The result is an exciting new class of HMI that can be powered from most domestic sockets. It is as small as a 1,200 W PAR lamphead but with 70% higher light output. Adjustable from 20 to 60 beam angle, the M18 can also be used with 1,200 W lamps. The M40 gives greater light output than a 4K PAR due to its MAX reflector. It is focusable over a range of beam angle. Eliminating heavy but fragile lens sets makes the lamphead ideal for rough location use, speeds up workflows and reduces the total cost of ownership. The M40 can be used with 2,500 W or 4,000 W lamps. The M90 packs a lot of punch into a small package. In fact the light output produced with a 9,000 W lamp and the MAX reflector comes close to the output from a 12K PAR fixture with lens. The unit is also focusable from 16 up to 49 just by turning the focus knob, producing a remarkably even light field and a crisp, clear shadow. The elimination of spread lenses speeds up the workflow on set. No heavy lenses, a light beam that is easy to control, great handling and the highest efficiency of daylight fixtures ever. The M8 is easy to open and therefore easy to maintain. The result is an exciting new class of HMI, as small as a 1200W PAR but with a 70 percent higher light output. The BABYMAX gives a remarkably even beam spread that casts crisp shadows and is adjustable from degrees without requiring spreader lenses. The use of an 1800W lamp is made possible by the patented True Blue Cross cooling* system, which maintains airflow at any tilt angle. This keeps all parts of the fixture within safe working limits. The M18 uses the same accessories and cables as the ARRISUN 12; it can even be used with a 1200W lamp and powered by either the purpose-designed EB1200/1800 or any ARRI 1200W ballast. The M18, like all True Blue lampheads, uses barndoors made from a high strength alloy that is less susceptible to bending. Other True Blue innovations include the stainless steel friction disc, which locks the lamphead securely even when using the largest Chimera. Maintenance and repairs are easier with fast, simple access to all internal components. For outdoor use the M18 s IP23-rated weather resistance withstands even driven rain. In line with the M18 s sister product, the AS18, it is also possible to convert to lens operation by fitting an ARRISUN style reflector and ARRISUN 12 lenses, giving a 6-65 degree beam spread. When used with the ARRI 1200/1800 Electronic Ballast, the CCL (Compensation of Cable Losses) system maintains full power to the lamp even when using head-to-ballast cables up to 100m (300 ) long, which would otherwise mean a 20% loss of output. In offices and domestic situations, the M18 requires no generator. Drawing less than 13A from a 230V supply, it can run on most domestic sockets in 230V countries. New Power Class To close the gap between the M40 and the ARRIMAX 18/12, the M90 introduces a new power class of 9,000 W, which sits almost exactly in the middle between the two. A new 9,000 W lamp has been developed by Osram according to ARRI s specification, very similar in size to the 6,000 W lamp, which makes the MAX Technology reflector function perfectly at both wattages. The lamp is stable at 1000 Hz and allows for high speed filming with the new ARRI high speed ballast EB 6/9 kw with 1000 Hz. Small and Lightweight The new 9,000 W lamp and ARRI s superior housing and cooling concept have made a Protection class IP23 very compact design close to the dimensions of the ARRISUN 60 possible. Since the Possibility accompanying EB 6/9 kw ballast uses the housing of the current EB 6000 Baby, and 6K head-to-ballast cables are compatible, the whole system is highly efficient and delivers a light output close to a traditional 12K PAR with a lens within the dimensions of a 6K PAR system it punches above its weight!
