From late 2017, Greater Wellington Regional Council(GWRC) wants to change the way your buses run and not for the better. GWRC want a cost effective bus service that s attractive to users.

2 From late 2017, Greater Wellington Regional Council(GWRC) wants to change the way your buses run and not for the better. GWRC want a cost effective bus service that s attractive to users. They say that a spine network with more crosscity routes will mean fewer buses in the CBD, easing congestion and speeding up journeys. But they haven t got it right. Their plans will make our city s bus service less reliable, less environmentally friendly, less accessible and less fair: Longer routes make traffic related delays more likely Sixty zero emission electric trolley buses replaced with dirty diesel double deckers and diesel hybrids Diesel double deckers are slower to load and unload, impacting connecting buses on the Golden Mile and in Newtown Diesel hybrids are untested technology in Wellington s hilly terrain Many one bus journeys will take two or three bad news for people with mobility issues, prams or bikes Routes to be managed by multiple providers with no integrated ticketing system for transfers yet confirmed University students will lose many of their direct campus services GWRC won t guarantee bus drivers existing wages and employment conditions so we may see longer shifts for lower pay, with potential providers paying as low as $16.02 per hour, and less experienced drivers responsible for users safety This CAN change if you tell GWRC and Metlink what YOU value in your bus service. 3 Proposed bus route changes Check your current route numbers to see how GWRC s proposed bus changes will affect you. Trolley bus replaced Discontinued Route change Delays Extra Buses Route Summary Future 1 2 Trolley bus replaced with diesel. Island Bay service will be operated by slower double deckers to/from Churton Park/Granada Village/Johnsonville West. Trolley bus replaced with diesel. Miramar off-peak services will only run to/from Miramar Terminus and the Park Road shops. Users will need to catch one or two extra buses to take them to the City and University. Trolley bus replaced with diesel. Karori Park buses will now travel to/from Seatoun via Hataitai & Kilbirnie rather than Lyall Bay via Newtown. 3 Lyall Bay buses will travel to/from John St via Newtown requiring users to catch an extra bus to travel to the City. Karori West will no longer receive a bus service outside the AM and PM peak periods. 5 Trolley bus replaced with diesel. Will incorporate travel to/from Wilton/City/Oriental Bay/ Roseneath/Hataitai but not Kilbirnie, requiring users to catch an extra bus to travel to/from Kilbirnie shops and the Airport Retail Centre. 6, 7, 10, 11 Trolley bus replaced with diesel. (10) Discontinued - replaced by Houghton Bay link bus. 8 Kowhai Park will travel to/from Brooklyn Library requiring users to catch an extra bus to the City Trolley bus replaced with diesel. Discontinued replaced by a new route Highbury/Aro St/City/ Ngaio/Khandallah. Will travel to/from Wilton/City/Oriental Bay/Roseneath/Hataitai but not Kilbirnie, requiring users to catch an extra bus to travel to/from Kilbirnie shops and the Airport Retail Centre. Discontinued replaced by a link bus to/from Karori East/Kelburn/Te Aro/Mt Victoria, resulting in the loss of the direct Miramar/Newtown/Universities service. Discontinued - Vogeltown will be serviced by an extension of the No. 7 Kingston route (City/Brooklyn/ Kingston) rather than running to/from Karori East via Mt. Cook.

Miramar off-peak services will only run to/from Miramar Terminus and the Park Road shops. Users will need to catch one or two extra buses to take them to the City and University. (23) No longer travels across town but becomes a local service to/from Newtown requiring users to catch extra buses to travel to the City/University/ Mairangi Discontinued - replaced by a new route to/from Johnsonville/Broadmeadows/ Khandallah/City/Evans Bay/Maupuia. Seatoun Express will no longer travel via Ira St and Devonshire Rd but instead travel the current No. 11 route on Broadway (20, 43, 44) Discontinued - replaced by a new route Highbury/Aro Street/City/ Ngaio/Khandallah. Most buses will only operate to/from Strathmore and Kilbirnie requiring users to catch an extra bus from Kilbirnie to Newtown and the City.
