6 SACL T1 Ground Access Improvements Existing lighting infrastructure lighting performance EXISTING LIGHTING SYSTEM PERFORMANCE The result of the lighting level measurements indicated that the open air carpark lighting level complied with Category P11b lighting category of AS 1158, however, specific areas, like the passenger pick up, pedestrian crossings, disabled parking spaces etc. were not complying and these specific areas were not readily noticeable nor easily accessible to drivers and arriving visitors because these specific areas were not visually distinguishable.

9 OUR DESIGN AIMS SACL T1 Ground Access Improvements Proposed lighting infrastructure Assist drivers and pedestrians to find their destinations quickly and easiliy Assist safe vehicular and pedestrian movements Make different areas of the carpark (such as pedestrian crossings, passenger pick up areas, entry and exit booths etc.) more noticeable and distinguishable Increase Sydney Airport s prestige and image The new lighting system performance, as a minimum, must comply with the technical performance parameters of AS1158, specific for the various activities. Use energy efficient lighting with low maintence cost and which are economical to operate and maintain

10 SACL T1 Ground Access Improvements Proposed lighting infrastructure HOW WE WANTED TO ACHIEVE OUR DESIGN AIMS Assist in safe movement Increase the existing lighting levels to comply with relevant AS1158 categories as a minimum Install new street lighting scheme for the central road, adjoining interconnecting roads and new driveways to create a well lit traffic corridor through the open air carpark as well as in and out of the carpark and onto the adjoining roads Increase prestige Use the latest LED technology and latest luminaire design Select the most suitable luminaires for the specific areas to be lit Uniform light levels without glare Take into account existing and new architectural features, buildings and elements

11 SACL T1 Ground Access Improvements Proposed lighting infrastructure HOW WE WILL ACHIEVE OUR DESIGN AIMS Energy Efficiency Use energy efficient light fittings with energy efficient control gear Use high lumen/watt light fittings Use central photocell control (Airport AMS system) for the street lighting and local photocell control for the awning lighting

12 Low maintenance SACL T1 Ground Access Improvements Proposed lighting infrastructure Keep the existing 30m high mast lighting but looking at options to replace the 3x1000W floodlights with equal light output LED area floods with increased effective operating time that allows the Airport to lower and raise the floods for lamp replacement Replace all existing 70W and 150W metal halide luminaires on exisntg 5-7m poles with LED luminaires of same light output but lesser wattage Select long life LED fittings for all new luminaires Select LED luminaires from the same manufacturer to assist with spare parts and maintence program Optimise the number of new lighting poles and luminaires

28 SACL T1 Ground Access Improvements Passenger pick up area end results End results: Higher lighting levels than the ambient carpark lighting level directs visitors and customers to the entry and exit booths and to the passenger pick area parking aisles. The passenger waiting area can be easily identified by both passengers and passenger pick up visitors. No more confusion to access these strategically important ground access hubs.

30 SACL T1 Ground Access Improvements open carpark area and street lighting The existing open area carpark relied on lighting provided by the 30m high masts each with 3 x 1000W metal halide floodlights.

31 SACL T1 Ground Access Improvements Open carpark area and Central Road lighting We aimed to achieve this lighting performance with our design This is the actual lighting performance we achieved on the Central Road.

32 SACL T1 Ground Access Improvements Open carpark area and Central Road lighting Luminaire used for large scale area and area lighting Cree LED Way 40 and 60LED count street light lanterns on 10m high poles. Existing 70W-150W metal halide post tops around the Customs building were retrofitted with the Cree LED Way lanterns as well to unify the carpark lighting appearance, colour temperature and reduce maintence costs.

33 SACL T1 Ground Access Improvements open carpark area and street lighting The 1000W metal halide floodlights were replaced with high output LED area lights of Cree Edge range. We used 3 off 240LED 4000K area lights and mounted the new area lights on the existing floodlight lowering winch and brackets using special custom made adaptors.
