Getting Started The Energy Consultation
What s Your Goal for Solar and EE? Control future increases in energy costs? Reduce today s energy costs? Lower carbon footprint? Accommodate an Electric Vehicle Charging Station? Any combination of the above? SolarCity Confidential Slide 24
The Free 90 Minute Energy Consultation Perform walkthrough for quick audit of electric and gas equipment in home. Pull data from Utility and Review 1 Years Electric and Gas Usage Discuss and uncover why usage is what it is Discuss any low-hanging fruit electric opportunities and consider this when designing your solar system size. * For gas/heating/cooling, contact appropriate trades professional. Design System and Discuss Financing Options/Contract Terms SolarCity Confidential Slide 25
A Simple Energy Audit Note: The more efficient the home, the smaller the solar system required. SolarCity Confidential Slide 26
We Start With Your PGE Electric Use SolarCity Confidential Slide 27
What The Heck Is A Kilo-Watt-Hour (kwhr)? = 1000W bulb on for 1 Hour = Ten 100W bulbs on for 1 Hour = 100 LED bulbs on for 1 Hour SolarCity Confidential Slide 28
Your Rate Per kwhr Varies By amount used (Tier 1-5), season, time of day, Under the PUC overall Rates are adjusted 1-3 times a year by PGE You may have discounts for Medical or CARE rates SolarCity Confidential Slide 29
A Remodeling Story The Right Choices SolarCity Confidential Slide 30
The Ultimate Light -- and Heater! 18-60Watt Bulbs 18*60*4hrs*30Days = 129 kwhrs/month 129*.33= $42.57/mo 12.9 Kwhrs With LED s and 4 Less Solar Panels $1.93/month SolarCity Confidential Slide 31

Finance Options Larger Solar Companies have their own funds to finance your solar system LEASE, PPA, Purchase Loan and Cash. Small Solar Companies only offer Cash Purchase or they arrange financing through a 3 rd party. SolarCity Confidential Slide 43
Finance Options Evolving Rapidly Solar Company Owned You Own Lease Solar Company Financed Cash Power Purchase PPA FICO Credit Score depending Upon solar company Your Bank (Equity Line) Government Financing (i.e. PACE) PACE Property Assessed Clean Energy SolarCity Confidential Slide 44
Finance Options Evolving Rapidly Lease Solar Company Owned Protects Homeowner Against Rising Rates No upfront investment required The longer the term the greater the savings Savings from Day 1 Fixed Lease Payment Substitutes for UB. Payment is < old UB saving money. Usually 20 years extendable to 30 years Annual Escalator on payment 2-3% Can not purchase system Power Purchase PPA Variable payment based on solar production. Average payment < old UB saving money. Usually 20 years extendable to 30 years Annual Escalator on payment 2-3% May be able to purchase system after year 5 * Company applies for ITC but passes that along in lower payment to you SolarCity Confidential Slide 45
Case Study #1 Carew 4100 kwhrs $58/mo * $8900 Cash Purchase Price after ITC SolarCity Confidential Slide 46
Case Study #2 The Ash s 9000 kwhrs - $206/mo SolarCity Confidential Slide 47
Solar Lease Fixed Monthly Payment, 2.9%esc * 21,000 Cash Purchase Price After ITC SolarCity Confidential Slide 48
Things To Be Aware of On Leases/PPAs Leases and PPA s are inherently lower risk than cash purchases as solar company must service the system to continue to get paid monthly payments from homeowner. Solar Company gets the 30% ITC and generally passes it along to you in savings (3-4 cents per kwhr) on your price for power. Savings on Leases Versus PPA generally the same. Although 1 payment is fixed and 1 is variable they should average to about the same annual expenditure for electricity. On PPA you should only pay for power produced, not estimated. On Lease, check contract to see how contract handles under/over production. Smaller solar companies generally will not offer leases. They don t have the financing and can t commit to being in business for 30 years. SolarCity Confidential Slide 49
Finance Options Evolving Rapidly Question: Can you utilize the 30% ITC? If not, purchasing is usually a more expensive option than a Lease or PPA. You Purchase 30% ITC Low fixed interest <5%APR Up to 30 year paybacks No prepayment penalty No Liens on property Low interest Payback time flexible Lien on property Solar Company Financed Your Bank (Equity Line) Cash * Break-even 8-12 years. Covers solar, EE, water projects Homes, Bus, Comm Payment assessed on property tax bill No credit score requirement Lien on property Government Financing (i.e. PACE) PACE Property Assessed Clean Energy SolarCity Confidential Slide 50
Case # 1 - Cash Purchase and MyPower Loan SolarCity Confidential Slide 51
Case #2 Cash Purchase and Loan 6/17/ SolarCity Confidential Slide 52
Things To Be Aware of On Purchases Think Long Term Built to last 30 years! Of Highest Concern What is warranted, how long, (including inverter)? Will you monitor and guarantee the production? 19 years down the road who do I call for repairs and who pays? If you hear this system has a manufacturer s warranty of 25 yrs on the panels and 15 yrs on the inverter Reality Check Manufacturers of panels and inverters do not deal with the public. You have no warranty. Of Lowest Concern (if system is warranted for 30 years) Where are your panels made? Do you use micro-inverters? SolarCity Confidential Slide 53
