4 We make ideas come true. UV-Lamps Who would have thought... that the spiral-wound filament of an ordinary light bulb reaches a length of 85 cm if you unwind it? With UV lamps however, things are different. An arc is generated between two electrodes and there is no filament at all. UV lamps are mercury-vapour medium-pressure lamps with high specific power and an optimised UV yield. This high-energy radiation is used for breaking down chemical bonds and is ideal to cure UV inks and varnishes. To achieve an optimum curing effect, a high-performance UV system must be equipped with a number of perfectly matching components. Apart from the electronic control equipment, cooling and exhaust, the UV lamp itself is one of the most important components of a UV system. It is the UV lamp that forms the vital basis for generating the required UV radiation. We produce our UV lamps to the highest quality standards in our own lamp factories. They satisfy the requirements of numerous UV systems available on the market. The production of our UV lamps is geared to achieve premium quality with a long service life. We use high-quality materials and apply sophisticated manufacturing techniques in order to reach this goal. Because of our technical know-how and many years of experience, we are the UV experts that make ideas a reality in the field of UV lamp manufacturing. Our contribution to your success.

5 We can provide the ideal UV lamp for every application. Because we manufacture our lamps ourselves, we can guarantee highest quality. Our UV lamp tubes are made from quartz glass. This material features a number of properties which are combined to provide a degree of perfection that no other material can achieve. Extremely low thermal expansion, excellent elasticity and resistance to thermal shock, high transformation and softening point, low heat conductivity, good optical transmittance factor for ultraviolet radiation, purity, corrosion resistance as well as a diffusion-barrier effect against most materials. These are the features that distinguish this raw material for our UV lamps from other materials. The interior of the lamps contains inert gas, usually argon and mercury. By adding further fillers, for example iron, certain ranges of the UV spectrum can be intensified. Our»everclear«technology produces Halogen molecules which prevent the UV lamps from blackening. The mechanical and electrical connections between the lamp and the lamp socket is at the ends of the lamps. The flow of electric current is contained under vacuum and made by sealing the quartz glass and using a special kind of film. The electrodes are made of tungsten. The thermal expansion coefficient of tungsten is 10 times higher than that of quartz glass. Therefore, tungsten cannot be fused directly with the quartz glass. The socket and the electrical wire connecting the lamp to the power feed are at the outer end of the electrode system. The socket is used both as mechanical holder and as electrical insulator and is usually made of ceramic. And apart from this, there is only one more thing you need to know: We put all our passion into each of the UV lamps we manufacture for you. 9 UVH lamps UV-curing lamps are mercury-vapour mediumpressure lamps of high specific power with optimized UVC-output. The radiation emitted can break up molecules of chemical compounds and has also a germicidal effect. Therefore uv-curing lamps are used for both, curing as well as sterilization of liquids and surfaces of solid materials. The main areas of application are curing of printing inks, laquers, adhesives, casting materials and polyester resins in the following fields: * graphic industry - printing machines, furniture industry - varnishing, electronic industry - printed circuit boards Advantages of uv-curing are: The materials are solvent-free and thus there is no environmental strain. The quick curing of the material guarantees high production rates. Essentials of the uv-lamps are high uv-output and long useful lifetime. Main feature is the combination of a new electrode and coordinated halogen circle resulting in a high uv-output over the whole lifetime. This is why a useful lifetime of 1500 operating hours with a radiation loss of max. 25 % can be guaranteed for standard lamps (rating 100 W/cm). The specific power is characteristic for uv-curing lamps. It is given in Watt per cm arc length and specifies the electrical input as well as, combined with the efficiency, the radiation emitted. The most usual ratings are 80 W/cm, 100 W/cm and 120 W/cm. They are covered by the 22-standard types: Type arc length total length lamp voltage lamp current ignition voltage lamp power at 100W/cm UVH (mm) (mm) (V) (A) (V) (W) , ZG , ZG , ZG , ZG , ZG , / , ZG , ZG / , ZG / , ZG , / , ZG , , , , , , , , , , , , , , Page 8/48

10 When reducing or increasing the lamp current by 15 % the lamp can be operated with 80 W/cm or 120 W/cm. Lamps with a rating of up to 600 W/cm are also available, where the mostly used types have ratings of 160 W/cm to 240 W/cm. Power Supply UV-lamps can only be operated at a power supply unit. Up to a rating of about 5 kw usually a combination of choke and ignition unit is being used. Between 5 and about 8kW a combination of autotransformers and chokes are needed. Leakage transformers are preferred when using lamps with ratings higher than 8 kw. They are available up to 60kW. Power supplies are designed usually with 1, 2 or 3 power steps. Stepless controlled power supplies for all power ratings are possible too. Up to 9kW and about 60cm arc length also stepless controlled electronic power supplies are available. With conventional power supplies a stand by power of about 35-40% of maximum power is possible, if needed. When electronic power supplies are used, a significant less stand by power of about 10% is possible. Fig. 1. Choke and igintion unit, up to about 5kW Fig. 2. Auto transformer and chokes, up to about 8kW EPS Fig. 3. Leakage Transformer, over about 8kW Fig. 3. Leakage Transformer, over about 8kW With conventional power supplies a stand by power of about 35-40% of maximum power is possible, if needed. When electronic power supplies are used, a significant less stand by power of about 10% is possible. Lamp cooling Normally uv-curing lamps are operated with air-cooling, but it is also possible to use more elaborate water cooling, especially if the material is very sensitive to temperature. If UV-lamps running in stand by, cooling have to be reduced. Page 9/48

11 Spectrum and Energy The energy radiated by an uv-curing lamp is split up to (approx.): 30 % UV-radiation 15 % visible light 55 % infrared (heat) Depending of lamp filling only with mercury, or additional with iron or gallium (or other dopings) the radiation peaks have alternative wavelength. With this the shares of UV-A, -B and -C are different. Mostly used UVH lamps emits the mercury -, the iron -, or the gallium spectrum: Spectrum of a mercury lamp (UVH standard) Energy sharing (approx.): 15 % UV-C, 8 % UV-B, 7 % UV-A, related to the electrical power Spectrum of an iron doped lamp (UVH type F) Energy sharing (approx.): 7 % UV-C, 5 % UV-B, 17 % UV-A, related to the electrical power Spectrum of a gallium doped lamp (UVH type G) Energy sharing (approx.): 9 % UV-C, 8 % UV-B, 4 % UV-A, 24% UV-VIS, related to the electrical power LAMPS FOR SPECIAL APPLICATION CAN BE MANUFACTURED ON CUSTOMERS REQUEST. Page 10/48

12 Warranty Conditions of UVH-Lamps The guarantee times for UVH-lamps, granted by UV-Technik and the manufacturer respectively, differ by type, power and spectrum. The guarantee period applies only to the lamp, which should not show signs of external contamination and it must have been appropriately cooled. It is normal to have a radiation drop within the respective UV-range of 25 % compared with new. For iron doped lamps ( F ) the 25h value is defined as new. For all lamps a switching cycle of max. three times within 8h of operation is applicable. Each switch On/Off reduces lifetime for 30 minutes. In all cases a Pro-Rata procedure is applied, that means, the used time of a lamp is taken into account, e.g., a lamp with 1500 hours of warranty and an actual period of operation up to the failure at say, 1000 hours is credited a third of its value or an equivalent replacement lamp compensation will be given. No guarantee applies to inappropriate mechanical, transportation or handling breakage. This is guilty for deformed lamps too, because unsufficiant air colling or too high power are causes of failure. Replacement or credit notes apply only to the lamps themselves. We cannot accept any claims whatsoever for consequential damages. The following guarantee periods apply within 3 years of the production date: UVH-Lamp Hg / (no marking) Iron / F Spectrum / Marking Gallium / G ozone-less / Y ozone-free / Z up to 160 W/cm 1500 h 750 h 1000 h 1500 h 1000 h more than 160 W/cm 1000 h 750 h 1000 h 1000 h 1000 h Rapid Start Lamps 500 h Other lamps, especially those with special spectral distribution, on request. 14 Why use Electronic Power Supplies (EPS)? Advantages for the user: Step less adjustability of lamp power and through this optimal adaptation to the curing process e. g. at variable machine speeds. Results are lower heat load of the irradiated object and the surrounding machines as well as energy saving. Possibility of balancing out lamp ageing. The requested and adjusted lamp power is consistently controlled and therefore independent of mains voltage variations or other influences. Quick controlling of lamp power to 10-15% for gaps in the product flow. This means, depending from application a clearly energy saving. Advantages for the machine producer (OEM): ONE power supply for many different lamps and lamp powers: For lamp power from 400 to 34,000 watts there are only seven different EPS-types which are necessary. Without changing the power supply, different lamps in the respective power range can be problem-free connected to EPS, merely the minimum and maximum values of the lamp and the respective EPS limits are set, in only few cases the arc length. EPS are in very many cases smaller and lighter than conventional power supplies. There is less time for installation and wiring. Possibility of very rapid pulsation of lamp power Especially for discontinuous processes, e.g. curing of prints on single objects such as synthetic bottles, check cards, CD's and so on, the fast pulsation of lamp power is a solution. When an object is located under the lamp, the lamp can be operated at full power. During the short break before the curing of the next object the power will be decreased to a minimum. The average power consumption for a lamp and EPS is the mean of minimum and maximum peaks with Operation with rectangular current: Operation of a uv-lamp with a rectangular current avoids the short dark breaks which occur in the arc using standard power supplies at 50 or 60Hz. So running at very high speed there is no loss of Reliability: EPS s have been in use world-wide since The experiences and the suggestions for improvement from our customers have influenced the current series. Optimal for export, since it can be used worldwide on 376 to 509 V at 50 and 60Hz. without changing the power supply (3 phase units). Possibilities of installing the power supply directly into the machine, so that the switch cabinet becomes unnecessary or it becomes clearly smaller. Balanced load of the 3 phases (for 3-phase units). High warm up current for short warm up phase, but NO higher current to the mains. No Neutral line necessary (3-phase units) No additional ignition necessary (except TEP 20) Distance between power supply and lamp up to 15 m and more (FSU). respect to the pulse duration. The overall heat generation and energy consumption correspond to this mean, but the UV-power during the curing moment will be at its maximum or peak power level. The rise time from minimum to maximum power is approx. 2-3 ms (ALP/BLP) respectively approx. 20 ms (TEP/FSU). curing, e.g. for high speed printing, lacquering or printing of fibre optics etc. When objects are monitored by cameras, interference is avoided. All types of EPS are short circuit proof, earth faultproof as well as no-load safe and have proved themselves as very reliable during practical use. Regulations: All electronic power supplies have the CE sign. EMC according to EN 55011, group I, class A (industrial areas). The EPS s correspond to EN and other European and worldwide standards (IEC) Page 13/48

30 UV-Integrator SR Integrator with integrated heat shield for measuring the UV dose Application: This measuring instrument measures the applied dose thereby examining the effects of UV lamp aging and contamination. It can be used where a conveyor belt (or similar) passes underneath uv lamps, e.g. in UV-curing ovens, photo-resist exposure systems, printed board exposure systems etc. which is typical in the furniture and printing industry, as well as PCB manufacturing and others. The UV-Integrator is placed on the conveyor belt or similar, so that the uv sensor on the back of this unit is facing toward the uv lamps. The sensor receives the incoming UV radiation while passing the lamps in the range of 250 to 410 nm and integrates it over the exposure time. The total dose afterwards is displayed on the LDDin mj/cm². With regular measurements it is therefore possible to anticipate the time and minimum UV dose needed to avoid uncured products. UV lamps can then be cleanded or replaced at the right time, i.e. not too soon to save costs and not too late, to prevent curing problems. It is designed to measure, record and display peak UV intensity, UV dosage and temperature (UV-3C-T Integrator SD). Due to its three different UV sensors and the integrated microprocessor the UV-3C can measure, record and display the peak of the UV-energy (mw/cm 2 ) for each UV band individually plus the peak of total UV energy. Additionally, this UV-Integrator is calculating the uv dosage (mj/cm 2 ) of the uv energy supplied during the time of exposure of one measuring cycle. This allows to determine not only the total energy, but also how that energy is delivered, i.e., what intensity and dose at what uv band. The sensors are on the back of the unit which also serves as a heat shield. After completion of the measuring cycle all measuring results can be scrolled through on the built in 2 x 16 digit LCD display. 34 PM41-UVT IR-sensor for measuring quartz tube temperature of uv lamps General Up to now it was very difficult to measure the real quartz tube temperature of UV lamps while operating. Normally it is done with thermo elements or resistance wires. Principal disadvantage of those sensors is the additional heating of the sensor by the IR radiation of the Arc itself and an additional cooling of the sensor by the normally necessary cooling air flow for the lamp. As a result, the measurement was very unreliable. The new sensor PM41-UVT measures IR radiation of 4,5 to 4,8µm. As quartz by physical reasons blocks the short wave IR radiation of the arc lower than 4,5µm, the sensor only measures the long wave IR of the quartz tube itself. As a result it measures the real temperature of the tube, nothing else. The sensor takes a bearing on the lamp with a distance of approx. 40 to 100 mm, while the spot size on the lamp tube is 3.8 to 13 mm of diameter. It is important to have an aperture between lamp and sensor to protect the sensor housing to the lamp heat. Max. housing temperature is 65 C! The measuring spot on the lamp tube have to be smaller than the tube diameter, otherwise a mixed temperature of lamp tube and background will be displayed. The hole diameter has to be adopted to its placement within the measuring area, shown in the picture below. As an example it could be mounted on the rear side of a lamp head and takes its bearing through-out a hole in the lamp housing. By an air flush ring (for pressurised, clean air, option) in front of the sensor opening a pollution by e.g. dust could be avoided or reduced. 35 SiCSi-2,5-3kV-Ø8 High voltage cable 1x2,5 mm², 3kV, shielded, for connection of uv-lamps General Typical application of this cable are the use for supplying UV lamps with electronic power supplies (EPS), which need shielded cables to apply to the EMC rules, due to the principal disturbances of the EPS, either working with rectangular shaped currents or with high frequency sinusoidal currents. This cable has a voltage capacity of 3kV continuous and can stand the typical igniting pulses up to 5kV, as well as power supplies, working with higher lamp operating voltages up to nominal 2 kv. 36 SiCSi-2,5-6kV-Ø11 High voltage cable 1x2,5mm², 6kV, shielded, for connection of uv-lamps General Typical application of this cable are the use for connecting UV lamps with their power supplies. The shield decrease disturbance emissions, give a certain protection against isolation damage and gives the possibility to detect isolation faults in long trays. Usually this cable is used up to lamp operating voltages of about 3.5kV. The silicone isolation gives a certain protection against uv stray radiation and is able to stand the typically higher temperatures in the lamp heads connecting parts. It is not designed to be used inside lamp heads, e.g. in parallel to the reflector (here Teflon isolated cables have to be used typically). 40 Reflector Material Highly polished anodised aluminium reflectors This highly polished anodised UV reflector material is optimized for the reflection of the UV spectrum. It comes coated with a protective coloured peel off coating which must be removed before use. This material is available in sheets or can be cut and shaped to customer requirements. For this a drawing must be provided which includes dimensions, thickness, material (if different to Aluminium) and radius if curved. Standard material thickness is availabel in 0,5, 0,7 and 1,0 mm. Reflection curve as percentage vs. wavelength Wavelength in nm Page 39/48

41 Cold UV Mirror Highreflectice and selective Cold UV Mirror Aluminium, stainless steel or quartz glass UV curing is essential in the processing of temperature sensitive substrates in printing and curing applications using solvent free inks, lacquers, glues. The ever increasing requirements being placed on the productivity and performance of these curing modules are resulting in higher and higher radiation densities and thus the need for improved heat suppression. UV-Technik offers solutions for optimising the performance of UV curing modules. Dichroic UV cold reflectors especially designed for the commonly used UV-lamps result in a extremely high yield of UV-radiation. At the same time the heat load on the product to be cured is reduced to a minimum. Normal reflectors, typically high gloss aluminium reflectors, reflects UV in a high degree, but also light and IR radiation. Coating of the reflector sheets with our UV-cold coating reflects UV as good as high gloss aluminium sheets, but absorbs a lot of the IR radiation and gives it to the reflector body or the cooling air.typical applications are: Printing machines (e.g. foils), optical storage media (CD, DVD), Electronics, surface treatment. A variety of customer-specific reflector geometries can be realised. Example: Cold UV Mirror on aluminium Reflectance in % Wavelength in nm Page 40/48

44 UV reflector units with shutter 1. General Reflector units are used as holder of uv-lamps and reflect on the utilizable area a large portion of power, which otherwise will be radiated unused in the space. In connection with the right amount of cooling air, they also facilitate a cooling, geared to the necessities of the lamp. By tipping forward both parts of reflector before the lamp, UV and IR radiation could be stopped (shutter) to protect goods when transport stops. The uv reflector units are produced of corrosion-resistant materials, all important parts are made of aluminum or high-grade steel. 2. Precautionary Measures UV-radiation emitted by uv-lamps in operation is dangerous for skin and eyes and has kept off the operating personal during operation by shielding. Never look directly with unprotected eyes in an uv-lamp and in reflected radiation! During operation, the quartz tube of the lamp attains a temperature of approx. 700 to 900 C, therefore the lamp have to be cooled off before working on it or the reflector unit in case of e.g. service. Despite sufficient cooling, the reflector unit itself can reach temperatures clearly more than 50 C at some places. Because of the high temperature of the lamp, the use in explosion proof zones is not possible! If, for example, in combination dryers solvent-containing colors, lacquers etc. and uv-curing materials are used alternately, ensure BEFORE switching on the uv-lamp, that the solvent containing air in the dryer is sufficiently rarefied / eliminated! Reflector units with shutter do not stop all UV radiation, a residual leakage radiation will still be emitted. This has taken into account, when humans should work in the area of this residual radiation. 3. Installation and Shutter Driving of Reflector Unit Reflector units are designed for mounting in a larger housing provided by the customer (e.g. dryer unit), which guarantees a sufficient protection against touching (hot) and especially against uv-radiation. The fastening of the unit may be done in various ways, e.g. to lie on rails (do NOT cover the gills or the air inlet slits at the long sides between outer wall and reflector), or by holders (screws) at the back side or the face sides of the unit. If fastened by the rear side drill holes in the inside wings of the edge profile but not in the backside coversheet for more stability. Reflector units with shutter have to be completed with e.g. a linear or turning pneumatically cylinder or an electrical motor by customer. So the unit could optimal adapted to the machine or plant. Care have to be taken to the end stops (open and closed) of the shutter. The driver have to close/open the shutter smoothly, not hard! Otherwise early damaging of shutter mechanism will occur. It is recommended to install two end switches for control reliable function of the shutter. Page 43/48

45 4. Cooling The necessary amount of cooling air depends on the power of the lamp. The air should be sucked off at the backside of the unit. In special cases it could be necessary to blow the air from the backside over the lamp to the front of the unit, but it is more difficult to find the right amount of air in this case, because of jet effects and partial cooling of the lamp. Guiding value for the amount of cooling air is shown in the following table. These values have to be multiplied with the power of lamp in kw. Lamp power 40 to 60 W/cm 70 to 90 W/cm 100 to 130 W/cm 140 to 180W/cm 200 to 240 W/cm air volume 30 m³/h * kw 40 m³/h * kw 50 m³/h * kw 65 m³/h * kw 90 m³/h * kw About 80 to 100% air volume have to be added to the calculated values for the cooling of the surrounding customer provided housing and machinery. Example: electrical lamp power 6 kw at 120 W/cm necessary amount of cooling air for the reflector unit: additional amount of cooling air for the housing: total amount of air about 600 m³/h approx. 300 m³/h approx. 270 m³/h General experience has shown, that an exhaust temperature of 60 C measured near the air outlet at the dryer means a sufficient cooling. A lower temperature of <40 C often indicates a too strong cooling, but must not. A sure indication could be made by the lamp voltage. It have to be near the nominal value according to the lamp data (U lamp should be more than 75-80% of nominal lamp voltage). In stand-by operation with reduced power, the air volume has to be reduced in order not to cool down the uv-lamp too much. A too strong cooling could be indicated by a sinking lamp voltage lower than about 80% of the nominal lamp voltage. The air reduction is to be established in a test, since it also depends on practical conditions of use. The air may be reduced by means of e.g. a motor-operated throttle valve or by a two-step blower or other. Take care, that amount of cooling air at stand by power differs clearly between open and closed shutters! With open shutter air should be calculated by the above formula. With closed shutter this low air volume will be too less for cooling the closed and heated shutter profiles. So a much higher volume is recommended, it may be, that the full power volume is applicable. This has to be tested via lamp voltage (see above) and/or profile temperature, it should not exceed 300 C. The exhausted air has to be drawn away via roof or equivalent because of the ozone content. Through the relatively high temperature of the exhausted air, the ozone decays really fast (some minutes). Page 44/48
