4 1. Product Item This guide provides installation and product specification information for the Diginet 650mA LED Driver. Diginet item number DGLC650C18DD. 2. Product package contents The Diginet packaging includes the following. 1 x Diginet, complete with o o pre-terminated Australian/NZ 240Vac 10A mains rated flex and plug, and a pre-terminated dc lead and 4-pin connector for the LED lamp. LED lamps suitable to connect to this LED driver are purchased separately. For suitable Gerard Lighting LED lamps, please contact Gerard Lighting or visit 3. Important notes and safety information Electric shock may result in serious injury or death. Follow all warnings in this guide and on the product while working in accordance with the latest electrical safety practices. Connecting the Diginet to a DALI line must be carried out by a suitably qualified installer who must work in accordance with standard safety procedures for mainspowered electrical equipment. DALI lines operate on an ELV dc supply between 9.5V and 22.5V but must be considered at mains potential due to equipment isolation and cable segregation between mains and DALI. The installer must be suitably qualified and should work in accordance with standard safety procedures for mains-powered electrical equipment. There are no user serviceable parts inside the Diginet. Do not attempt to disassemble or operate the driver with any covers removed. Contact details are provided on the back cover of this guide and also at 4. About DALI DALI is short for Digital Addressable Lighting Interface. It is an International Standard for lighting control system communication, set out in technical document IEC As an open published standard, DALI enabled lighting/lighting control equipment from different manufacturers can communicate with each other via a two-wire DALI communication cable. The two-wire connection to a DALI communication cable is polarity insensitive. The following are examples of lighting control equipment which is available in the market with DALI communication features. Lighting control gear - fluorescent ballasts and LED drivers Lighting control devices dimmers, relays, switches and touch screens Emergency lighting devices - emergency lighting LED drivers and fluorescent ballasts. 4

5 5. Product summary An efficient, high quality, Australian designed LED driver delivering 650mA constant current at 12Vdc to 24Vdc. The driver is designed for use in general lighting applications such as downlights, spot/accent luminaires and linear LED lighting systems. The driver includes an integrated DALI connection to allow flexible dimming control of the connected LED light source(s). The driver is pre-terminated with an Australian/NZ 240Vac 10A mains rated flex and plug. It is also pre-terminated with a dc lead and 4-pin connector for a Gerard Lighting 4-pin LED lamp. As well as Gerard lighting LED lamps, the driver can be used in conjunction with suitable 3rd party LED lamps. 6. Product capabilities The LED driver is designed for easy installation, long lifetime and high efficiency. Smooth dimming from 0.1% - 100% is provided via commands received on a connected DALI line. It is also possible to provide a dimmable output to the LED lamp via a mains rated phase angle controlled dimmer connected to the mains input of the driver (either a trailing edge dimmer or a universal dimmer). The dc output from the driver includes open circuit / short circuit detection, protection and reporting in accordance with the DALI standard IEC The driver automatically recovers from dc output open circuit and short circuit conditions. The driver is compatible with Gerard Lighting LED lamps, including Sunset Dim LED lamps and Constant Colour LED lamps. When used in conjunction with Gerard Lighting LED lamps, an active thermal wind-back feature is provided to protect against LED damage due to overheating. 3 rd party LED lamps with the appropriate specifications can also be used in conjunction with this driver. To connect the driver to 3 rd party lamps, the installer needs to remove the 4-pin dc connector (see section 9). Before connecting the Diginet to 3 rd party LED lamp(s), the installer must ensure that the LED lamp specifications are compatible with the Diginet DALI 650mA LED Driver specifications. Connecting incompatible 3 rd party LED lamp(s) to the driver is likely to cause damage to the LED lamp(s). When used with 3 rd party LED lamps, the driver does not provide active thermal wind-back. This feature is only available when the driver is used in conjunction with Gerard Lighting LED lamps. 5

6 7. Mounting the driver The driver is supplied with a tool-removable mains terminal cover with built-in cable clamps for strain relief. It is therefore suitable for installation outside a luminaire, as well as inside a luminaire. The driver is suitable for mounting in a variety of indoor locations, including above suspended tile ceilings and fixed plasterboard ceilings, as well as inside luminaires and tube systems. The driver has an ingress protection rating of IP20 and as such is not protected against moisture ingress. It is therefore not suitable for mounting in an outdoor environment without being housed in a suitable weatherproof enclosure. The driver includes a fixing hole adjacent to the LED dc supply cable. This is used for anchoring the driver in a suitable location. Figure 1 Fixing hole for anchoring the Diginet When installed, the driver should not be covered. A minimum clearance of 25mm from insulation or combustible material is required. The maximum recommended ambient operating temperature and maximum recommended case temperature must not be exceeded during product operation. 6

Using a phase angle dimmer to control the connected LED lamp dimming level As an alternative to being dimmed via DALI, an LED lamp connected to the driver can be dimmed via a trailing edge, phase controlled, 240Vac mains input. Figure 4 Using a trailing edge dimmer or universal dimmer to control the connected LED lamp dimming level Only trailing edge dimmers or universal dimmers are suitable for this application. Leading edge dimmers are not suitable and should not be used with this driver. DALI and phase angle dimmer inputs should not be used together to control the dimming level. Superior dimming performance is achieved using a DALI signal to control the dimming level and is therefore the recommended alternative for dimming control. 8

11 14. Product warranty The Diginet DGLC650C18DD driver has a five-year warranty against manufacturing defects in accordance with the following terms: 1. Nothing in this Warranty affects any person's rights under the Australian Consumer Law. The benefits to any person under the DIGINET Warranty are in addition to the rights and remedies available under any Consumer Guarantees. 2. Subject to the other clauses of this Warranty, DIGINET warrants that the Goods will be free of manufacturing defects and will perform to DIGINET's specifications. 3. The benefit of the DIGINET Warranty extends only to the owner of the property in which the Goods are installed (the Owner) for five (5) years after the date of purchase (Warranty Period). 4. If within the Warranty Period the Goods fail to perform to DIGINET's specifications as a result of some defect in material or workmanship in the Goods (Defect) then DIGINET will, at its option, repair the Goods or supply replacement Goods free of charge. 5. The DIGINET Warranty will not apply to Goods: 5.1. installed by any person other than a qualified tradesperson; or 5.2. subjected to misuse, neglect, negligence or accidental damage; or 5.3. operated in any way contrary to any operating or maintenance instructions; or 5.4. improperly handled, installed or maintained; or 5.5. altered or modified prior to or after installation. 6. The DIGINET Warranty does not apply to faulty or defective design of Goods unless DIGINET has designed the Goods and DIGINET expressly accepts responsibility for such design in writing. 7. In order to make a claim under the DIGINET Warranty, the Owner must: 7.1. contact DIGINET to obtain a Returned Goods Authorisation Number for the Goods and to be notified of DIGINET's return address for the Goods by: freecall DALI (3254); or post to PO Box 314, Padstow NSW 2211; or fax to ; or to sales@diginet.net.au return the Goods at the Owners expense to the return address notified by DIGINET together with all accessories, instructions, specifications or other material supplied with the Goods and a notice in writing: stating the Returned Goods Authorisation Number for the Goods; describing in detail the defect or fault in the Goods; setting out the Owner's contact details (including postal address, address and telephone numbers at which the Owner can be contacted during usual business hours) DIGINET will not accept any returned Goods which have not been returned strictly in accordance with the above instructions. 8. DIGINET will examine any returned Goods and if DIGINET determines that they are defective through no fault of the Owner and are otherwise undamaged, DIGINET will repair or replace the Goods free of charge. 9. DIGINET will notify the Owner whether it accepts the Goods are defective within a reasonable time of return. 10. DIGINET will not be responsible for any costs of de-installation, re-installation, returning Goods or for redelivery of the Goods (whether original or repaired and/or replacement Goods) by DIGINET and any other related expenses of the Owner in claiming under the DIGINET Warranty. 11. DIGINET will not be responsible for any loss or damage to the Goods occurring while the Goods are in transit (either on return to DIGINET or upon redelivery to the Owner of the original or repaired and/or replacement Goods). 12. DIGINET will not be responsible (whether arising in contract or tort (including negligence) or under any statute) for any special, indirect, incidental, consequential or economic losses or damages (including loss of data, business, profits, revenue, anticipated savings, bargain, opportunity or goodwill) whether or not the possibility of those losses or damages being suffered had been brought to the attention of DIGINET. The Australian Consumer Law requires the inclusion of the following statement with the DIGINET Warranty: Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and for compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if the goods fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure. 11
