4 Smart Grids Implementation of the European Electricity i Grid Initiative i i (EEGI) The European Electricity Grid Initiative has been created by the major TSOs and DSOs European Associations (ENTSO-E and E-DSO) to accelerate the development of the electricity networks of the future in Europe, the Smart Grids. The EEGI launched by the European Commission in Madrid in June 2010 European Distribution System Operators European Transmission System Operators R&D and demonstration program budget of 2 bn included in the Communication on Financing of the SET plan 4
