4 2 esense configurations 2.1 General description Esense is an accessory for heavy mobile care products, offering intuitive electric drive support for forwards, backwards and optionally sideways driving. Examples of products suitable for integration with esense are: Hospital beds Patient stretchers Bariatric care products CSA trolleys Food trolleys Distribution trolleys Patient lifts Examples of products with esense drive support. 2.2 System build-up Each esense system minimally comprises of a Driveunit with electric drivewheel, a controller box containing the electronic controllers of the system, an intelligent User Interface, one or more intuitive force sensitive sensors and all interconnecting cabling. Additional to this the system can be extended with a batterypack with charger and an IPx4 waterproof enclosure. Next to these basic components a number of accessory parts is available, including: A cable to add additional switches to the system that can temporarily switch off the electric drive (immobilizers). This can for instance be used to switch drive functionality off when a trolley is on its mechanical brake. A mechanism to manually lift the wheel in case of emergency situations. Sets of brackets to add alternative mounting options for the Driveunit or charger A cable to extend the distance between the controller box and the Driveunit Fixed. 2.3 Fixed or 360 functionality Esense systems are available with two different Driveunits; Fixed or 360. The Fixed version only supplies electric drive support in forwards and backwards direction. The 360 version adds sideways drive to this, making it most suitable for situations where maneuvering in small spaces is required. The Driveunit 360 is typically used in combination with mobile products with four swivel wheels. For best performance the Driveunit is installed as a fifth wheel in a central position between the swivel wheels. 3

5 Typical position of the Driveunit 360. The Driveunit 360 provides functionality to: Drive forward, backwards and in wide curves with drive support. Forwards and backwards driving is controlled by use of a pair of intuitive force sensitive sensor handles. Drive 90 sideways in left and right direction, using a switch on the user interface. On some products, like for instance patient lifts, due to geometrical restrictions, it may not be possible to install Driveunit 360 in a central position between the four swivel wheels. On these products the Driveunit may be positioned in the front or at the back of the product. For optimal drive and steering experience the sensor and control software are customized to create intuitive active steering. Alternative position of the Driveunit 360 combined with active steering. The Driveunit Fixed is typically used in combination with trolleys with 2 rigid wheels and 2 swivel wheels or short trolleys with 4 swivel wheels. In this situation the Drive wheel shall be positioned as a fifth wheel central between the 2 rigid wheels of the trolley, or central between the 4 swivel wheels. Typical position of the Driveunit Fixed. The Driveunit Fixed only provides functionality to drive forward, backwards and in wide curves. Sideways driving is not available. 4

6 2.4 Pre-defined esense configurations On common request six different pre-defined esense configurations are available. A first differentiation is in Fixed or 360 systems. Both the Fixed and 360 versions are available in three variations. Esense Basic The most cost effective configurations. Suitable for integration inside mobile products during production. These configurations include a Driveunit, controller box, user interface, sensor handles and interconnecting cables. The system is to be powered by the trolleys own 24V or 36V battery. Esense Power Equal functionality to Esense Fixed, but including a 24V 9Ah battery and waterproof charger. Suitable for integration inside mobile products during production. Esense Box In addition to the Power versions the battery and controller box of these configurations are housed in an IPx4 water resistant enclosure. These systems are well suited for installation on the outside of mobile products, including aftermarket installation. 2.5 Schematic overview of pre-defined esense configurations 2.6 Custom integration projects For many products the six pre-defined configurations offer sufficient options. For more advanced products, Indes, the company behind esense offers integration projects to further customize the system. These projects offer for instance: Alternative sensors (suitable for integration inside the product or adding. Customised cabling (different lengths, spiral cable etc.). A disconnectable charger instead of integrated charger. Custom membrane switch foils for the User Interface. 5

9 4 Ordering 4.1 Guidelines Esense systems have to be ordered as one of the six pre-defined sets (E up to 9060). To these sets additional parts can be added. These can be selected from all component categories (basic, alternative, accessory or spare). Pricing of additional parts can be found in the esense spare part price list. Additional parts shall be listed in separate lines in an order. Parts listed in the category Alternative components can be exchanged with parts from a standard set. Pricing of the full set remains equal. To order such a system the alternative part(s) shall be listed in the same line as the full set. The mark Alternative: shall be added before the alternative parts to confirm it concerns exchange parts. It is not possible to order a set that excludes any parts. Any part removed from a standard set must always be replaced by an alternative. 4.2 Examples You want to order 10 esense Fixed sets without Batterypack and Enclosure, but with a Mechanical Wheel Lift and a cable for an external Batterypack. Your order: 10 x E esense Fixed Basic 10 x E Mechanical Wheel Lift 10 x CAB073 Battery Main 2 The Mechanical Wheel lift and Battery Cable will be packed separately. You want to order 10 esense 360 sets without Batterypack, but with Enclosure and 3 sets of Key Magnets. 35 10 Compliance The esense system is a 24 V DC powered add-on system for food or health care facility transport trolleys. The essential requirements of EC Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC have been applied and fulfilled.
