Magnetic Assemblies are the Key Components of the lamp. It influences Application Frequency, EMI Radiation as well as the Electrical Power Saving achieved. Magnetic Products Division of Mahindra CIE understands the requirements from the Magnetic Materials for the specific application. 4 Working principle of Magnetic Induction Lamp: Magnetic induction lamps are basically low pressure fluorescent lamps. High performance magnetic cores (ferrite cores) with an induction coil on it, are wrapped around on the endless glass tube. The induction coil produces a strong high frequency magnetic field through the glass & excites the inert gas inside and turns it into plasma. When atoms of the plasma return to ground state, they emit UV light. This UV light is converted to visible light by the triphosphor coating inside of the glass tube. In conventional Metal Halide lamps, the gas is excited by the electrons generated by heating of the filament in the bulb. Lot of power is used to keep the filament heated for sustained light. Magnetic Induction technology solves "aging of filament" related problems. This results in maintenance free long life of Magnetic Induction Lamps.

19 FAQS ABOUT INDUCTION LIGHTING 1. How does Hi-MAG IL save costs? It saves costs in more than one way - Reduced power consumption, Good Lumen/ watt, No/Low replacement parts, No associated labor costs, Long life, Reduced number of lamps per area optimized using softwares for design. 2. Does IL interfere with electronic devices? IL works at 200 ~ 250KHz and conforms to the applicable international standards. The close loop magnetic circuits of modern lights does not allow such interference. 3. What is THD for Hi-MAG IL? THD is controlled by advance electronic circuits with good quality filters and kept well below 10% as against many other lighting technologies operating at 20 ~ 22%. 4. Does MI produce EMC to affect environment? NO. High frequency is contained in the system itself allowing no such effect. 5. What are color temperatures available in HiMag IL. Usual range is between 2700K to 6500K covering full spectrum of applications. 6. Does Hi-MAG IL need its own fixture? Yes. For the reason of best suited heat management and photometry IL fixtures are designed to suit shape of IL.This ensures best use of available Lumen. However in some conditions existing lighting fixtures can be made to suit as retrofit. This needs treatment case to case. 7. Is IL vibration resistant? IL is electrode less hence it is best reliable lamp source against vibration prone applications. Its much robust to take vibrations and hence suited for application such as Bridges, flyovers, material handling cranes, tunnels. 8. What is photopic and scotopic vision? All persons have 3 kinds of vision namely photopic which is vision under well lit condition ( sensed by cone cells), Scotopic which is monochromatic vision in low light(sensed by rod cells), Mesopic which is combination of two. Any light source is defined by a ratio called S/P ratio to judge scotopic:photopic values. This is very critical consideration in application such as street light since all current standards are tuned towards Photopic while application demands scotopic. 9. Does Induction lighting contain Hazardous substances and hence special care needed for disposal? Induction Lighting contain a small pallet of solid mercury amalgam and does not contain any liquid mercury which is harmful to environment. Considering longlife of the lamp per hours of usage its content is smaller even compared to conventional fluorescent lamps. The amalgam is restricted in a small projection from the glass shell and can be easily separated for disposal whenever end of life of lamp. Thus the lamps are very much environment friendly.
