4 INTRODUCTION AND DESCRIPTION: The Airfilm G1-1 utility bracket mount allows for the attachment of utility equipment such as cameras, lights, and sensor instruments to be hard mounted on the Bell Aircraft 206 A, B, & L and 407 Series helicopters. The G1-1 mount attaches to the exterior of the aircraft landing light housing area. The G1-1 bracket can carry a maximum load of 130 lbs. The mount can be installed and removed without any permanent aircraft modifications. The G1-1 mount prohibits the use of the standard aircraft landing and taxi light. If night operations are required the Airfilm G3-1 Landing light kit may also be installed. Depending on the mounted load and weight and balance requirements of each helicopter an optional G2-1 Counter Weight Assembly kit is available. This G2-1 Counterweight kit is attached to the aft cross tube and aft jacking pad. This kit does not interfere with the installation or operation of Microwave or Cargo Hook accessories. Page 1 of 17
5 G1-1 NOSE MOUNT BRACKET 1. Remove existing landing light cover, disconnect landing lights. Using the original cover as a template, align forward edge of original cover on G1-1 mount forward top edge. Equally space original cover longitudinally on G1-1 mount. Using original cover as template carefully mark existing 8 holes on to G1-1 mount. Be sure to check all 8 hole locations for sufficient edge distance. Insure G1-1 mount does not interfere with existing aircraft equipment. (See Figure 1) Fugure 1 Align forward top edge of original light cover and G1-1 mount Equally space original light cover and G1-1 mount longitudinally, mark original 8 holes. Page 2 of 17
6 2. Drill marked holes with no.30 drill, due to curvature of G1-1 mount; the use of drill guide block is recommended. Cleco original cover to mount, check for sufficient edge distance. Drill no.30 holes to final size, no.10 drill. Deburr holes. 3. The original landing light housing (Bell 407) or landing light plexi-glass window may be replaced with the G-7 Blanking Panel. This panel sandwiches between the aircraft and G-1 mount if required. 4. Install and secure the G1-1 Mount bracket to the aircraft using QTY 6, AN3-5A bolts on two most forward holes and QTY 2 AN3-11A on aft holes use MS Lock washers at all 8 places. (See Figure 2) Due to airframe variations any gap between blanking cover and G1-1 mount in excess of in at hole locations can be shimmed using one standard flat washer of corresponding thickness. If washer shims are used ensure supplied hardware will be sufficient in length to remain in safety. Torque the bolts Inch Lbs. Figure 2 Install AN3-5A bolts at 6 places. If required use washer shims between mount and light cover blanking plate at bolt hole locations Install AN3-11A bolts at fwd 2 places Page 3 of 17
7 5. Install camera / sensor to G1-1 mount. (SEE APPENDIX A FOR DETAILS AND CONFIGURATIONS). 6. Route any control wire into aircraft so as not to interfere with the operation of doors or the operation of any flight controls or systems. 7. Check entire G1-1 assembly for flight integrity. System should be secure and not have free play movement. 8. Revise weight and balance per the following table: The following table presents the location of the weight center of gravity of the mount and payload sensor/camera for adjustment of the aircraft weight and center of gravity with the mount installed. Attach the following Placard in full view of pilot BL (in) Reduce the published V NE by 20 KIAS (23 MPH) 10. Make appropriate log book entry for installation. 11. Return to service. 12. Removing G1-1 system. Follow instructions in reverse order to remove. Remove entire G1-1 mount assembly and associated hardware. Reconnect landing light wiring if changed. Re-install original light cover with original hardware. Page 4 of 17
8 G2-1 COUNTER WEIGHT (NOT REQUIRED) The G2-1 Counter Weight Installation is optional if needed for maintaining the Center of Gravity limits of the helicopter. 1. Install the G2-1 counter weight assembly; Insure that the installation does not interfere with the operation other installed accessory kits. Page 5 of 17
9 2. Install the G2-2 Counterweight around the aft cross tube approximately 9 inches left of aircraft the centerline per the photograph below. Exact placement is not required at this step. Tighten fasteners only to remove slack but also allowing the kit to be adjusted. Page 6 of 17
10 3. Raise the G2-1 counterweight assy upward so that the aft fitting (G2-2) aligns with the aircraft aft jacking pad. Attach using QTY 1 AN5-27A bolt, QTY 2 AN Washers, QTY 2 G2-5 Cone Spacers. The cone spacers are installed against the jack pad to insure proper alignment and fit. Torque Inch Lbs. Page 7 of 17
11 5. After counterweight is fully attached to the aircraft, tighten all remaining bolts to final torque. Torque In Lbs. 6. Check entire G2-1 assembly for flight integrity. System should be secure and not have free play movement 7. A counter weight is attached to the aft landing gear cross tubes and aft jacking hard point located on the bottom of the fuselage.
