8 Challenges faced today OMV PETROM 2009 Annual Report 2009 was a challenging year, during which we had to balance our long-term priorities with the short-term challenges of a major economic and financial downturn. The overall context was that the national GDP contracted by 7% with the RON decreasing substantially in value against both the US dollar and the euro. EBIT decreased by 9% principally due to the unfavorable oil price environment and weak refining margins. This was partly offset by our cost reduction measures.
