1 15 th September 2009 FIAT POWERTRAIN TECHNOLOGIES PRESENTS THE NEW C90 ENGINE AT THE GENOA BOAT SHOW Excellent technology, innovation and an extensive range of products for so many different applications are the distinctive features of Fiat Powertrain Technologies, a leading company in the forefront of the world power unit market. FPT will be introducing the new C90 engine, available in 620 and 380 hp versions, at the 49 th Genoa International Boat Show. This product, which is at the top end of the market in terms of specific power (the 620 hp version), reduced consumption and emissions, will demonstrate, once again, how Fiat Powertrain technology is at the cutting edge. FPT's strength lies, on the one hand, in its ability to create new technology and, on the other hand, in the application of this technology to different types of engines. Experience and innovation is shared within the Group resulting in the continuous growth of the company and its products. This new product, for example, benefits from the recent progress made in the automotive sector and the development of heavy transportation engines. Two versions will be available: one designed for leisure boats (C90-620), the other for professional craft (C90-380). Courtesy of these two new models, the C unit family now boasts 8 versions, ranging from 200 to 825 hp. The market launch will take place during the most important international boat show. There will be a stand in Pavilion C, ground floor, stand U10 and also the opportunity of testing the FB Design 42' Sport on which two C units are installed. Page 1/5

2 The engine. The new 8.7 litre engine features the most up to date technology, such as E.C.R. (Electronic Common Rail), which improves efficiency and reduces the impact on the environment. The fuel system has also been integrated under the tappet cover in order to allow all the high pressure ducts to be kept inside the engine with improvements in terms of safety. The C90 features excellent performance, compactness, lightness, reduced consumption, low running and maintenance costs and low gas emissions and noise pollution. These features make it one of the best on the market in both the pleasure sector, with the 13 and 16 metre motorboats and yachts and in the commercial sector for heavy duty craft applications. Technology. The C90 is an amalgam of modern technology. The six cylinders in line and monobloc reinforced by a ladder frame allow installation even on sports boats that are exposed to extreme stress conditions produced by speed and waves. The steel crankshaft has integrated fracture split type, steel connecting rods and counter-weights. The aluminium pistons, the high turbulence combustion chamber and the four valves per cylinder contribute to improving combustion and maximising thermal and mechanical efficiency. The timing system with overhead camshafts is governed by a control located in the rear part of the monobloc with a drastic reduction in noise in the boat cockpit. The E.C.R. injection system, with high operating pressures and the electronic control of the injection, guarantees perfect timing and precise fuel metering, with a considerable reduction in consumption and emissions. The E.C.U. (Engine Control Unit) is the electronic nerve centre of the engine, carrying out essential functions such as the excellent control of the fuel injection in all operating conditions, the protection of the engine against overrevving and overheating, stopping the emission of fumes, the fault diagnosis of the electronic and mechanical components, the recording of any faults and the management of the safety programme to return to port at low speed in the case of a malfunction. New production processes, with robotised assembly techniques and the numerical control of the matching tolerances, has resulted in a reduction in vibrations and lubricant consumption. The latter advantage means that the intervals for checking and changing the oil are longer compared with other Page 2/5

3 engines and this results in a considerable reduction in maintenance costs and timing saving. Designed to satisfy specific requirements of high performance with a low impact on the environment, noise pollution and gas emissions, the two versions of the C90 satisfy all the main international regulations for the sector (IMO MARPOL /44/EC 2004/26/EC CCNR EPA). 4 On display. Fiat Powertrain Technologies is also planning to show off the S SD, the N67 560, the C and the electronic control at the Genoa International Boat Show. The entire range of FPT engines has winning attributes. The high torque at low revs is a quality, shared by all the models, that allows fast planing. The excellent performance is not achieved at the expense of the environment, keeping down noise levels and reducing gas emissions. Reliability and durability are fundamental qualities of FPT engines. They are subjected to constant, stringent testing, not only in the factory, but also at sea for pleasure and professional applications and in competitions too. Keeping running costs down has been achieved by extending the intervals between services and maintenance operations and by using components and accessories that are common to the various units. The fully electronic management, the common rail high pressure fuel injection systems with pump injectors and the four valves per cylinder are the main areas of technology that distinguish the S, N and C families, represented at the 49th Genoa International Show by the following engines: for the S family: the S (hp), a compact engine whose success is built on a combination of performance and a sterndrive; for the N family: the best in class N (hp) model, featuring the latest diesel technology, a practical design, excellent performance, lightness, compactness, low consumption and emissions; for the C family: the C (hp) engine, featuring the E.U.I. system (Electronic Unit Injector), low consumption and emissions, plus excellent performance making it one of the best engines in its power range.
