Battery WARNING: EXTREME HAZARD EXISTS WHEN REFUELING AND DEFUELING THE TRACTOR - NO SMOKING, NO OPEN FLAMES, NO ELECTRICAL DEVICE OPERATIONS. Disconnect battery terminals from battery posts. Leave battery in battery box. 2. Radiator Drain engine coolant from radiator and engine b-block. Clearly tag vehicle to indicate fluids removed. 3. Fuel Cell (c) (d) 4. Checks Drain fuel from tank into appropriate container. Clearly tag vehicle to indicate fluids removed. NOTE: Drain is located under tractor immediately under tank. Disconnect fuel line at lowest readily accessible connection and drain fuel from fuel line. Reconnect fuel lines. Leave cap on fuel tank, but loosened. On tractors so equipped, make certain in-line fuel shut off valve is open. (c) (d) Make certain fuel line is connected. Make certain shut-off valve on radiator is closed. Make certain fuel cell drain valve is closed

9 Section 4 MH Utility Vehicle B. PREPARATION FOR OPERATION WARNING: MAKE CERTAIN ALL FUEL LINES ARE PROPERLY CONNECTED FROM TANK TO FUEL PUMP TO CARBURETOR FOR GAS OR INJECTOR PUMP (DIESEL). 1. Radiator 2. Fuel Cell Make certain that radiator shut-off valve is closed. Add required amount of coolant to water mixture to radiator. Add fuel to fuel tank. Check all fuel lines for leaks. 3. Battery Connect battery terminals to battery posts

10 MH Utility Vehicle Section 5 SECTION 5: STORAGE A. FOR ONE MONTH 1. Engine Gasoline (1) Run the engine-at 1500 RPM and treat the upper cylinder by spraying an engine preservative oil into the carburetor air intake for about two minutes. This oil should be SAE #10, formulated for rust and corrosion protection, along with being a high detergent type that meets requirements for most severe (MOS.) service and also Ford Specification M-2C35. Open throttle for a short burst of speed, then shut of the ignition and allow the engine to come to a stop while continuing to spray the oil into the carburetor air intake. (2) Leave the spark plugs installed and cover all engine openings with dust-proof caps or shields. (3) Drain oil from crankcase. (4) Drain water from radiator and engine block. (5) Drain fuel from fuel tank, carburetor, and fuel lines (gasoline only). (6) Attach a tag on steering wheel stating, "CAUTION: Oil and water has been removed from engine." Diesel (1) Run the engine until it reaches normal operating temperature and then shut engine down. (2) Drain oil from crankcase and refill with required amount. WARNING: OIL WILL BE HOT. (3) Drain water from radiator and engine block. (4) Attach a tag on steering wheel stating, "CAUTION: Oil and water has been removed from engine." 1-5-1

11 Section 5 MH Utility Vehicle 2. Transmission No special action needed. 3. Drive Axle No special action needed. 4. Tires The tractor should be raised and axles chocked to prevent tire contact with ground. The pressure should be reduced to 15 psi. 5. Lubrication Ensure that all points are lubricated with specified grease, oil, etc. 6. Fluid Levels All fluid levels should be checked and topped up as necessary. 7. Wheel Bearings Wheel bearings should be repacked. 8. Battery Disconnect battery terminals. B. FOR INDEFINITE PERIOD 1. Engine Gasoline (1) Run the engine at 1500 RPM and treat the upper cylinders by spraying an engine preservative oil into the carburetor air intake for about two minutes. (6) Attach a tag on steering wheel stating, "CAUTION: Oil and water has been removed from engine." Diesel 2. Transmission 3. Drive Axle (1) Run the engine until it reaches normal operating temperature and then shut the engine down. (2) Drain oil from crankcase and refill with required amount. WARNING: OIL WILL BE HOT. (3) Drain water from radiator and engine block. (4) Attach a tag on steering wheel stating, "CAUTION: Oil and water has been removed from engine." Drain transmission fluid. Refill transmission. NOTE: Prolonged storage may be detrimental to the seals in the transmission. Drain drive axle by removing drain plug located on the underside of the differential carrier housing. Reinstall plug after draining. Attach a tag on steering wheel stating, "CAUTION: Oil has been removed from axle." 1-5-3

13 Section 5 MH Utility Vehicle 4. Tires The tractor should be raised and axles chocked to prevent tire contact with ground. Tire pressure should be reduced to 15 psi, and sprayed with a rubber preservative. 5. Lubrication Ensure that all points are lubricated with specified grease, oil, etc. 6. Fluid Levels All fluid levels should be checked and topped up as necessary. 7. Wheel Bearings Wheel Bearings should be repacked. 8. Battery The battery should be removed and stored separately. It must be stored in a cool, dry place, and must not be exposed to direct sunlight. A recommended storeroom temperature of 32 F (0 C) to 90 F (32 C) should be maintained. If the battery is stored in the open, it must be covered for protection against dirt and moisture: A slow charge should be given to the battery every one to two months
