3 The Kodiak 450 is an ultra capable utility ATV designed for both work and leisure use, and is aimed at a wide range of customers who are looking for a robust, affordable and attractive mid sized all rounder. The compact body design has been inspired by the best selling Kodiak 700 that has proved to be one of Yamaha's most successful and enduring ATVs. The Kodiak 450's user-friendly ergonomics ensure all day riding comfort, whether working on the farm or in the forest, or leisure riding with friends. The newly designed luxury seat has plenty of cushioning and support, and the natural low-stress riding position is designed to distribute the rider's weight evenly for enhanced comfort on all types of terrain. High torque 421cc liquid cooled engine with Electronic Fuel Injection The Kodiak 450's liquid cooled 421cc engine delivers plenty of smooth low rpm torque, enabling this mid sized utility ATV to conquer the toughest terrain. Whether running around the workplace or trail riding, this rugged and reliable powerplant is eager to perform - and with its Electronic Fuel Injection the new Kodiak 450 delivers high levels of fuel economy. The EFI system also ensures that this affordable new utility ATV operates efficiently and effectively whether at sea level of high up in the mountains - and the push button electric starter gives easy starting in hot or cold temperatures. For efficient engine operation, the Kodiak 450 is fitted with a radiator that is situated high in the chassis for added protection, and a high efficiency fan keeps the powerplant cool. Newly developed long-travel suspension The Kodiak 450 is equipped with newly developed long-travel front and rear suspension systems that not only deliver a comfortable ride, they also give this mid sized ATV the ability to master the most extreme terrain. The independent front suspension benefits from new KYB gas pressurized shock absorbers that give 171mm of front wheel movement, giving the new Kodiak 450 the ability to soak up bumps, ruts and other obstacles. For high levels of riding comfort together with smooth handling and easy steering, the rugged double wishbone system is equipped with newly designed A-arms, knuckle joints and cushions. The independent rear suspension gives 189mm of rear wheel travel that ensures an extremely comfortable ride, which - together with the relaxed ergonomics and well padded seat - makes the Kodiak 450 ideally suited to all-day riding, whether in work or leisure situations. Yamaha Ultramatic CVT automatic transmission As well as its compact body size, smooth suspension and relaxed ergonomics, one of the key features that makes the new Kodiak 450 an ideal choice for new and experienced riders is its Yamaha Ultramatic CVT automatic transmission. This easy to use system features Low, High, Neutral and Reverse modes that can be selected in seconds via a gate-type shift lever. A special feature on the Kodiak 450 transmission is its Park mode that gives reliable and precise operation - unlike some other brands that feature a cable operated parking brake that can be susceptible to stretching. 4 when descending hills or slowing down for corners. The Yamaha Ultramatic's sprag clutch design system automatically engages whenever the vehicle is decelerating, giving the natural and controllable feel of a manual or semi automatic transmission together with the smoothness and convenience of a fully automatic system. On Command 2x4 / 4x4 push button drive system The Kodiak 450 has been designed to be one of the most user friendly and easy to use models in its class, and the On Command 2x4 / 4x4 drive system enables riders to select their chosen mode with an electronic push button system. In relatively flat or unchallenging terrain the 2WD system can be selected, and when the going gets tougher this rugged ATV can be switched seamlessly into 4WD. Combined with its Yamaha Ultramatic CVT automatic transmission, the On Command push button drive selection system ensures that the Kodiak 450 really is one of the most functional and easy to use models in the mid sized utility ATV class. Powerful and reliable braking system For precise control in a range of conditions, the Kodiak 450 features dual front disc brakes that are slowed by lightweight single-piston calipers - and at the back end there's a low-maintenance sealed wet rear brake that generates strong and reliable stopping power. This proven and reliable system gives plenty of feel, and is operated by handlebar-mounted levers with an additional foot pedal for the rear brake. Easy to maintain Yamaha's ATV models are renowned for their durability and reliability, and to make the Kodiak 450 easy to maintain and service it features a high volume oil foam type washable air filter that can be removed without the need for any tools. Cooling fluid level can be checked from behind the left front fender - and can be topped up by removing the fuel tank cover and left body fender - while the oil level can be checked and topped up if required simply by removing a pull off plastic cover. Again, no tools required. Finally, the transmission's 'Park' mode means that not only is the parking brake reliable and precise, there's also no parking brake cable to adjust or replace when it stretches. High payload capacity With its durable front and rear racks capable of carrying 40kg and 80kg respectively - as well as a towing capacity of 600 kg - the Kodiak 450 has the ability to handle the toughest assignments. With its low running costs and affordable price, the Kodiak 450 is one of the most cost effective ways to get the job done in the farm, factory or forest. In fact, there is no other type of vehicle - whether 4x4 or compact tractor - that can compete with this mid sized utility in terms of cost, simplicity or ease of use. There are also warning lights for neutral, reverse and park modes - as well as for coolant temperature, engine management systems and 4WD engagement. On the EPS model there's also an EPS warning light. Kodiak 450 EPS Model Yamaha Electronic Power Steering (EPS) In addition to all of the above-mentioned features and specifications found on the Kodiak 450 EFI, the top of the range Kodiak 450 EPS is also equipped with Electronic Power Steering (EPS). This sophisticated EPS has been developed by Yamaha to give the best possible balance of rider assist and positive feedback, and by doing so this industry leading system ensures light steering with precise handling. By maintaining a high level of feedback, the Yamaha EPS system not only ensures that the level of physical input is reduced, but also that the natural steering feel remains.
