It all started with an object that was shaped by human hands. A number of these forms were created by our craftsmen to draw the inspiration for the design of the all-new 2017 Mazda CX-5. The outcome is a bolder, more athletic, and more sophisticated vehicle that truly lives up to Mazda s KODO: Soul of Motion design. KODO design delivers honed beauty, sophistication and strength - With Refined Toughness as its hallmark, the design aims to impart the dignity and beauty of an object honed through the application of a Japanese aesthetic. - A bold exterior design with a stunning air of mature dignity and elegance. - A bold exterior design combined with an interior design that makes all occupants feel good. - The new Soul Red Crystal Metallic premium paint application combines vivid highlights and crystalline depths. The new colour complements every curve, giving this stylish SUV even more depth, richness, and luster. The unique three-layer paint process uses light manipulation to create a sense of movement, even at a standstill. - Even hard-to-see areas within the vehicle and areas which normally do not get much attention paid, have been designed with great care. This helps to reduce visual noise and create a harmony within the vehicle for the occupants. Driving pleasure everyone in the car can enjoy - In line with our human-centered approach, the position of the shift lever is higher, providing an ideal driving position. - We aimed for a more mature drive and ride feel by improving responsiveness and adopting G-Vectoring Control (GVC). - The cabin has been enhanced to be quieter, with wind and road noise improvements for a better degree of stress-free communication between occupants. A comfortable space and plenty of modern accoutrements help provide driving pleasure for everyone on board - Features the latest technology, including i-activsense safety features and Mazda Connect 1. A new core (GS) grade package availability has been created to expand the safety message to a larger range of customers by lowering i-activsense features. 2. The introduction of Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Stop & Go function (MRCC with Stop & Go function) which enables the operator to have a greater range of operation for the adaptive cruise control which now includes the ability to bring the vehicle to a stop, and to start up from a standstill and resume to a set speed. 3. The newly adopted Traffic Sign Recognition System (TSR) that helps prevent the driver from overlooking critical traffic signs, and provides support for safer driving by displaying traffic signs through the integration of this feature into the windshield-projected active driving display. - The cabin space is more inviting and the rear seats are much more comfortable 1. To elevate the driving enjoyment, the speakers have been arranged to minimized door panel rattle. The available Bose premium sound system now has ten high-performance speakers that emulates a live-performance and further enhances driving enjoyment. 2. 5 2017 M{zd{ CX-5 vehicles highlights 17MY Fuel Economy Update As previously communicated, there has been a change in the 5-cycle fuel consumption testing methodology that is effective starting with 17MY vehicles. This change uniformly affects all manufacturers selling applicable vehicles in Canada. The fuel consumption ratings referred to are those recognized and catalogued by Natural Resources Canada. In the United States, the Environmental Protection Agency is also adopting a revised testing methodology for 17MY vehicles. As a result of this new testing, situations could result where published fuel economy results change 17MY versus 16MY. This could occur despite a 17MY vehicle not exhibiting any changes from the 16MY vehicle. Note also that changes in trim mix and equipment from model year to model year can also have an effect on the published fuel consumption numbers. Therefore, if there are changes on the published numbers between 17MY and 16MY, it could be any combination of these that are contributing to the differences. E. O.E. 7 2017 M{zd{ CX-5 vehicles highlights G-Vectoring Control (GVC) WHY Progression of the Jinba-Ittai philosophy Mazda aims to offer vehicles that provide driving pleasure and enrich the lives of their owners. We have achieved this through the pursuit of Jinba-Ittai, a feeling of unity between driver and vehicle. GVC is the first technology within SKYACTIV-VEHICLE DYNAMICS, and is part of the SKYACTIV series of technologies. SKYACTIV-VEHICLE DYNAMICS was conceived to integrate control of the engine, transmission, chassis and body to enhance the car s Jinba-Ittai feel; a sense of connectedness between car and driver that differentiates Mazda vehicles from others. HOW Enhancing chassis performance using the SKYACTIV engine GVC is only possible thanks to the existence of SKYACTIV engines, which enable precise control of drive torque, and the SKYACTIV- CHASSIS, which facilitates ideal vehicle behavior. GVC maximizes tire performance by focusing on the vertical load on the tires. The moment the driver starts to turn the steering wheel, GVC controls engine drive torque to generate a deceleration G-force, thereby shifting load to the front wheels. This increases front-wheel tire grip, enhancing the vehicle s turn-in responsiveness. Thereafter, when the driver maintains a constant steering angle, GVC immediately recovers engine drive torque, which transfers load to the rear wheels, enhancing vehicle stability. This series of load transfers extracts much more grip from the front and rear tires, improving vehicle responsiveness and stability according to the driver's intentions. A natural control effect based on a human-centered development philosophy Mazda studied the biomechanical relationship between the human and a vehicle in operation in order to tune the system to maximize a smooth interaction. 8 BENEFITS OF GVC Confidence increases as the car behaves more in line with driver expectations The driver operates the steering wheel to keep the vehicle within its lane whether driving in a straight line or cornering. However, due to irregularities and undulations in the road surface, the vehicle does not always travel along the expected line, forcing the driver to make corrections with the steering wheel. Since GVC provides enhanced response to slight steering wheel operations, it greatly reduces the size and frequency of steering corrections. Because GVC simultaneously enhances handling and stability by optimizing the vertical load on the tires depending on driving conditions, it demonstrates even greater effectiveness in rain and snow and on poor road surfaces. GVC is also effective at reducing fatigue for both driver and passenger. Fatigue steadily builds up as the driver continues to make minor steering corrections. Since GVC helps alleviate these corrections, it reduces accumulated fatigue over long distances. And by smoothing the transitions between G forces, GVC suppresses the swaying of head and body experienced by vehicle occupants, enabling them to enjoy a more comfortable drive.
