3 The Audi Q7 experience 5 Until now we were building quattro for our cars. With the Audi Q7 we ve built a car for quattro. Sometimes, a single question is enough to change the world: why can t you enjoy the outstanding driving features of an all-wheel drive in a passenger car? This thought occurred to the Audi engineers while they were out testing the four-by-four Iltis. From this simple question came the idea for a permanent all-wheel drive suitable for standard production: quattro was born. A success story began and still continues today: with the Audi Q7. A new vehicle concept from the ground up, which, just like the quattro drive itself, has been born from the wealth of ideas, the courage and the passion of Audi s engineers. The Audi Q7. 4 The Audi Q7 experience 7 To take you on further, the Audi Q7 skilfully uses all of its power. Its innovative quattro drive concept takes care of this. The permanent all-wheel drive distributes the drive forces variably to the front and rear axle. Always just as it is required for the particular driving situation. This enables superb traction, good grip and impressive propulsion, both on and off the road.

5 8 The Audi Q7 experience The Electronic Stabilisation Programme ESP supports quattro in the Audi Q7. It was especially extended to include a selectable offroad mode for the Audi Q7. With this, the ESP ensures even more traction and braking power when off-road and above all, even more fun. The optional adaptive air suspension ensures even more independence (standard for Q7 4.2 TDI quattro and Q7 V12 TDI quattro). This directly intervenes in damping the individual wheels. By almost eliminating permanent car body movements and automatically reducing rolling or pitching motions when cornering, braking or starting up, it ensures a comfortable driving feeling and better grip. 6 The Audi Q7 experience 11 Thanks to TFSI and TDI technology, the Audi Q7 deploys its tremendous power and dynamism over practically the entire engine speed range. As a measure to increase efficiency and reduce consumption and CO₂ emissions, recuperation is available for all the Audi Q7 s 6- and 8-cylinder engines. Depending on the engine variant, this ensures a significant reduction of the CO₂ emissions. The fuel consumption and CO₂ emission figures can be found from page 104 onwards.

7 12 The Audi Q7 experience The design of the Audi Q7 sets new standards. In tune with Audi tradition. The dynamic roof line and high shoulder section bring the sporty form of a coupé to mind. The powerful front with distinctive, chrome-framed Audi Singleframe and vertical chrome struts arouses self-confidence and radiates a sense of presence. With the strong V-shaped pointed bonnet, the standard contrasting paint finish, the optional full paint finish with aluminium-look exterior or the drawn-back headlights with daytime running lights LED technology upon request the Audi Q7 is always striving to push forward, even at a standstill.

The bumper with the integrated underbody protection in conjunction with the encompassing tailgate gives the Audi Q7 an impression of high performance and power. Inlays in matt finish black or optionally in Aluminium Trigon or selected woods set visual accents. Together with the fine cloth and leather upholstery and trim they underline the high-quality appearance of the Audi Q7.

11 20 The Audi Q7 experience Multifunctionality does not have to be complicated, as the Multi Media Interface (MMI ) proves. The central control system of the high-performance SUV gives you rapid access to important vehicle information and functions. The generous feeling of space is accentuated with the right sound experience. In the Bang & Olufsen Advanced Sound System, two acoustic lenses are automatically extended from the dashboard when the system is started, which ensure an exact and true-to-detail performance on any seat with its precisely aligned horizontal irradiation. More than 1,000 watts and 14 separate loudspeakers provide an outstanding sound experience.

12 The Audi Q7 experience 23 New freedom: the multifunctional seat and loading concept offers you up to 27 different configuration options. So you always have exactly as many seats and as much loading space as you require. As an equipment variant you can choose between two or three rows of seats. Within these equipment variants, you can then choose again: you can equip the second row with comfort seats, turning the Audi Q7 into a 6-seater, which is then equipped with an additional generous centre console. Or you decide on a classic 5- or 7-seater with a bench seat in the second row. The convenience entry function makes getting in easier, even for the rear seats. The optionally available panoramic glass roof provides a clear view of the sky. This electrically operated glass roof reaches to the third row of seats. Thanks to the low air-drag coefficient the noise level remains very low, even with the panoramic glass roof open.

13 24 The Audi Q7 experience Sometimes you just cannot decide what to take with you. The Audi Q7 therefore grants you all the freedom you could require. Unique in its class, it offers a 775 litre luggage compartment volume behind the second row of seats. The loading space comprises all of 330 litres when there are seven people in the vehicle. By folding the rear seats down all rear seats can be lowered level to the loading area the loading volume can be increased to up to 2,035 litres as standard. The generous loading width of 1.22 m easily offers room for up to four golf bags lying sideways. There is a large through-load facility located in the second row of seats as standard. When folded down, the loading area offers enough space to stow, for example, snowboards or skis, quickly and with ease.

And that is no different on the road The first victory of a racing car with a diesel engine at the legendary Le Mans 24 hours. The car: an Audi R10 TDI. With the 6.0 litre TDI engine, Audi is once again demonstrating its Vorsprung durch Technik. The Audi Q7 V12 TDI quattro reaches its maximum torque of 1,000 Nm at a mere 1,750 rpm and keeps it stable up to 3,250 rpm. This means excellent performance is at your disposal from an early stage and over a wide range. The engine moves the high-performance SUV with overwhelming supremacy and serenity, without losing its agility: 368 kw accelerate the Audi Q7 V12 TDI quattro from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.5 seconds. The xenon plus headlights in conjunction with the LED daytime running lights give the front section an unmistakeable appearance. 19 The Audi Q7 V12 TDI quattro experience 37 A glance into the cockpit of the Audi Q7 V12 TDI quattro: the screen of the standard MMI navigation plus is positioned high in the centre console and displays a host of important information. The leather-covered multifunction sports steering wheel in 3-spoke design is equipped with chrome-look shift paddles. The standard electrically adjustable sports seats are covered in Verano leather or, on request, in two-tone Fine Nappa leather; they provide great support even on challenging roads. Carbon inlays lend a special look to the centre console and the dashboard, likewise the aluminium-look pedals. The optional full leather package even includes a completely leathercovered dashboard. The decision in favour of an Audi is the logical consequence of enthusiasm for clear-cut design, technical superiority and dynamic sportiness. Audi exclusive offers numerous possibilities for all those who would like to give their Audi a personal touch through custom-made fittings. The Q7 Audi exclusive concept in Ipanema brown, metallic, with V12 TDI engine is the natural continuation of this concept of the ideal: truly special equipment in an exciting combination for an exclusive car the out-of-the-ordinary as a limited edition series product. Exclusive pleasure in a limited edition: the unique features of the Q7 Audi exclusive concept in Fine Nappa leather in Alabaster white and Chestnut brown with contrasting seams and piping. 21 40 FSI /TFSI Timing drive chain High-pressure pump Integrated charging module Switchable water pump The supercharger is a central element in boost pressure generation. Or, put another way, it ensures outstanding torque even at low engine speeds. The supercharger is a highly integrated, mechanical charging module situated between the two cylinder banks. The rotor unit, the electrically controlled butterfly valve in the bypass bend and the engine-side heat exchanger of the indirect charge air cooling system are integrated in one single-piece cast metal housing. The four-blade rotors mounted on an antifriction bearing compress by 160 and are covered with a coating which allows the gap dimensions in the con - struc tion to be reduced. Many hours of development. Thousands of miles of testing. And for what reason? In just a few seconds you will understand why. In FSI technology, the fuel is injected directly into the combustion chamber and atomised into a fine spray. This way, the fuel metered to almost droplet precision can be called upon the millisecond that the engine requires it. This means better utilisation of the fuel and ultimately, reduced consumption. TFSI technology is employed in the Audi Q7. It combines the advantages of FSI with a supercharger, which ensures even better power delivery. The Audi Q7 is available with a high-rev V6 TFSI engine with 200 kw or 245 kw. It is not just the peak torque that is impressive, there is also the torque curve. With the 245 kw engine, at least 90 % of the 440 Nm maximum torque is available across an engine speed range of 2,000 to 6,000 rpm. Thanks to its very spontaneous responsiveness and exceptional power delivery across the entire speed range, the 6-cylinder engine promotes a particularly dynamic driving style. 3.0 TFSI engine (200 kw/245 kw) The fuel consumption and CO₂ emission figures can be found on page 104.

What sounds perfectly normal now was cause for huge excitement 20 years ago, when Audi revolutionised the market with the first 2.5 litre TDI engine. Since then, developments such as common-rail technology have made TDI even more efficient. Piezo injectors ensure the fuel is finely and precisely distributed. Consequently, since the first TDI, the engines have become more economical, whilst specific output has increased. Choose for yourself how much power you wish to carry you away in the Audi Q7: a 3.0 TDI quattro with 150 kw or 180 kw (also available as a TDI clean diesel quattro) or a 4.2 TDI quattro with 250 kw. All the engines comply with the EU5 emissions standard, the TDI clean diesel quattro even complies with the EU6 emissions standard, which does not come into force until The 6- and 8-cylinder engines are fitted with a recuperation system which converts kinetic energy into electrical energy. This increases efficiency and saves up to 3 % fuel particularly in city traffic. Together with the start-stop system in the 3.0 TDI engines that automatically switches the engine off when the vehicle is at a standstill, fuel consumption can be significantly reduced. In addition to the standard catalytic converter and the diesel particulate filter, the Audi Q7 as a 3.0 TDI clean diesel quattro has a nitrogen oxide catalytic converter with AdBlue * tank. AdBlue is a biodegradable additive, small doses of which are injected upstream of the nitrogen oxide catalytic converter. Combined with other innovations such as common-rail technology and highly efficient exhaust-gas recirculation, a reduction of the nitrogen oxide emissions by up to 90 % is achieved. With the 4.2 TDI quattro with 250 kw, you can also choose a highly efficient and powerful diesel engine. 23 44 V12 TDI quattro The V12 engine is characterised by its superb smoothrunning performance. 368 kw accelerate the Audi Q7 V12 TDI quattro from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.5 seconds. You can drive the Audi Q7 V12 TDI quattro up to a top speed of 250 km/h after which the electronic regulation function comes into action. 6 litre displacement more than you have ever had before in an Audi Q7. That creates space for power. The most powerful diesel engine of its class. So much power with comparatively low fuel consumption. The Audi Q7 V12 TDI quattro consumes 11.3 litres of fuel (combined) per 100 km. Concentrated energy: with a length of 684 mm, the diesel engine is very compact an important precondition for integration into a standard production vehicle. From Audi of course. 24 46 quattro With quattro, we created one of the best all-wheel drive systems in the world. Of course, that was not enough for us. Those who know Audi know quattro. And once you have driven with quattro, you do not want to drive with anything else. Why? Because this drive puts the engine s power on the road in such a convincing way. quattro is a permanent all-wheel drive. If the wheels on one axle of the vehicle lose grip on the road and threaten to spin, then the power is transferred to the other axle automatically and permanently distributed through the centre differential. The basic distribution is 40 : % of the power comes from the front axle, 60 % from the rear. The benefits are better traction during acceleration and improved safety due to exceptional grip. But what makes quattro unique is really the driving feel. As if you are stuck to the road, some customers say. We put it like this: quattro gives you a better feel for the road and thus more safety. The quattro drivetrain

25 48 Suspension The infinitely variable damping adjusts itself automatically to almost every driving situation. Even with asymmetrically dis - trib uted loads, the vehicle almost always remains in a level position thanks to continuous ride-height regulation. Drivers can determine how dynamically they want to travel and what character their Audi should adopt. Different modes are available to the driver and can be selected using the MMI. Dynamics and comfort were once opposites. We ve made the differences vanish into thin air. Can the road communicate with the suspension? And above all: can the suspension understand the road? In the Audi Q7 and Audi Q7 V12 TDI quattro it can the suspension adapts to the driving situation and the road (standard from 250 kw) as well as possible. We call it Audi adaptive air suspension. An electronically controlled air suspension system operates individually on each of the four wheels and is combined with an infinitely variable adaptive damping system. Sensors on the body and on the axles continually monitor the current driving situation and send information to the system during the journey. Furthermore, the air springs guarantee that, even when carrying heavy loads, the vehicle s driving characteristics will not be impaired. bend. 26 50 Braking systems 20-inch ceramic brake² 18-inch steel brake The brake discs on the front axle have a diameter of 350 mm and are 34 mm thick. The brake callipers are anodised black. The brake discs on the front axle have a diameter of 420 mm and are 40 mm thick. The high-sheen anthracite painted brake callipers have the Audi ceramic logo. Nothing can stop a top athlete. Except for a top braking system. The 18-inch high-performance braking system in the Audi Q7 takes a powerful hold with its 6-piston fixed callipers on the front axle. A single-piston floating calliper is used on the rear axle. The brake discs comprise a cast friction ring which is connected to the brake disc chamber by means of steel pins. This so-called floating mounting ensures that the friction ring remains tension-free to a major extent, improving stability under extreme temperature loads. The axial perforation and cooling channels for internal ventilation also increase the brake discs performance. The use of aluminium not only reduces the weight of the brake discs, it also improves the weight balance of the unsprung masses. For even more demanding loads, the Audi Q7 V12 TDI quattro is equipped with a 20-inch ceramic brake¹ with an 8-piston fixed calliper as standard (optional for 4.2 TDI quattro). With this braking system, the brake discs on the front axle are made of a carbon-fibre reinforced ceramic material. This is based on hard and abrasionproof silicon carbide with high-strength carbon fibres embedded. This combination results in an enormous abrasion resistance which allows extremely high mileages to be achieved and at the same time reduces sensitivity to high thermal loads. In addition, the material is lighter than steel discs. Navigation system: The optional hard disk navigation system MMI navigation plus provides a 3D map view and a three-dimensional representation of well-known buildings and sights. Media: Display of available media sources such as jukebox, inserted SDHC cards, Audi music interface or CDs and DVDs; display of optional TV tuners. Audi connect: Traffic information online You not only get the right route to your destination but the quickest one too. In addition to traffic flow information, traffic information online provides faster information on the formation and dissolution of traffic jams for dynamic route guidance as well as greater coverage of the road network Audi connect: Travel information/weather provides weather forecasts and relevant information, such as charts and weather maps relating to the destination. Audi connect: News online provides comprehensive news items about current world events. Follow your intuition and you ll get there. Audi connect. Always online, even on the road. Audi connect: Navigation with Google Earth images and Street View* enables navigation with highresolution aerial and satellite images, photographs, topographical features, roads and their designations, and business entries. In Street View* you can form a realistic picture of your destination even before you arrive. With the Google point-of-interest (POI) search function with voice control, you get detailed tips about holiday destinations, opening hours or visitor reviews, and you have access to the entire breadth of the Google Internet database wherever you may be. Destination input by means of myaudi or Google Maps enables you to plan your route on your home computer with individual navigation destinations, and then send it to the vehicle. When you start your journey the planned route is loaded into MMI navigation plus. We try to match up to our claim of Vorsprung durch Technik in every aspect of an Audi such as in the case of the advanced MMI Multi Media Interface, for example. The MMI is used to control a wide variety of media in the car, as well as the navigation system and other convenience functions. On request, MMI navigation plus is available with 3D map display for the Audi Q7. It allows access to the various integrated audio sources such as hard drive, DVD player (audio/video) and two SDHC card readers (MP3 and WMA files). Mobile phone systems can be connected to the vehicle via the Bluetooth interface. And the management of your address book with up to 2,000 entries is now really easy. The Audi music interface can be used to connect a range of external media to the MMI, e.g. an iphone, ipod or a USB hard disc. Mobile information services offer the ultimate connection. With Audi connect you can easily search the Internet via Google for any special destinations in the MMI, or retrieve the latest news and the current weather forecast for the intended navigation destination. Data transfer is by means of the UMTS module of the Bluetooth car phone online, which can be ordered as an option for the MMI navigation plus. One special feature is the WLAN hotspot. With a laptop, an ipad or a netbook you can retrieve important information, data and s just as conveniently as in your office at home. There is an application for Internet radio* available for some smartphones. The lane change assistant Audi side assist* informs you from speeds of 30 km/h and above with a signal in the exterior mirror as soon as the system detects another vehicle in the adjacent lane. The lane compliance assistant Audi lane assist* detects if you have inadvertently left the traffic lane and lets you know in adequate time via steering wheel vibrations. The development of a new vehicle includes a number of crash tests. At first as virtual tests on the computer, then finally with the car itself in the halls of the Audi Vehicle Safety Department. Our engineers do not just evaluate data from their own series of tests but also data from real accidents recorded by accident researchers and scientists from the Audi Accident Research Unit (AARU). The department was founded in 1998 and works together with the police and doctors to establish the most accurate information possible about accidents. With the help of this information, our series of tests is continually being refined. The Audi Q7 has numerous safety features which combine to provide excellent passenger protection.
