Over half a century ago, a pipe and fitting specialist noticed that too many field workers were sustaining injuries while trying to force open stubborn valves in hard-to-reach areas. His innovative solution was a chain wheel that he called the Roto Hammer, a product which harnessed the principle of a hammer striking an anvil to safely open and close stuck or frozen valves in a manner that protected the operator from injury. Roto Hammer Industries (named in honor of its founding product) opened for business in 1959, setting up shop in an abandoned fire station in the Red Fork district of Tulsa, Oklahoma. More than fifty years and several additions later, Roto Hammer remains in the same location and continues to offer the very best in solutions for hard-to-reach and difficult to operate valves. Over the years, our offerings have grown beyond chain wheels to include valve extensions, floor stands, gear operators, and a wide variety of innovative Custom Solutions. While similar to our newer CL line in most ways, C Series wheels are substantially more robust and are ideal for the heaviest industrial applications and environments. For valves that withstand heavy use or that are located in highly corrosive environments, the C Series is ideal. 6 M Series Hammer Blow Impact Actuator Chain Wheel Under certain conditions, manually operated valves can be difficult to open and close. The valve may stick, freeze, or be used so rarely that its internal parts become fused. In addition, large valves are often difficult to operate when using a standard chain wheel. In answer to these problems, Roto Hammer offers the M Series Hammer Blow Impact Actuator. The Hammer Blow mimics the motion of a hammer striking an anvil and delivers a quick, measured blow that will free up a sticky valve without damaging its internal or external parts. Please note that the M Series should never be installed on a gear operated valve, as the force of the blow could result in damage to the gear mechanism. Ideal for overhead valves that tend to stick or are otherwise difficult to operate Available in chain model (for operation above ground level) or hand wheel model (for ground level operation) Either style (chain or hand model) may be ordered for Clamp-On or Direct-Mount installation Direct-mount models are furnished with an adapter plate that replaces the existing hand wheel. 7 E Series Direct-Mount Chain Wheel The E Series Direct-Mount Chain Wheel is designed to provide a truly custom fit. Instead of clamping on to the existing hand wheel, the E Series mounts directly to the valve stem and replaces the hand wheel. This eliminates the need for multiple clamps and hardware sets and provides a more streamlined, secure fitting of the chain wheel to the valve. The E Series can be bored to customer specifications or shipped solid for machining by the customer. For an added level of security, all of our chain wheels (CL, C, E & M Series) can be outfitted with a factory-installed RCK Safety Cable Kit. The safety kit is quick and easy to install, securely attaching to the chain wheel on one end and the valve on the other. If the chain wheel should come loose and fall from the valve, the RCK Safety Cable Kit will ensure that the chain wheel remains suspended from the valve rather than falling to the ground and causing potential injury to people and property. 10 Galvanized Chain Wheels Especially harsh operating environments sometimes necessitate an extra level of protection for chain wheels. Many chain wheels are used in the petrochemical industry, where they are exposed to chemicals, extreme temperature or humidity. In such cases, we offer galvanized chain wheels to extend the life of the product in corrosive environments. Galvanizing is also ideal for high moisture environments (such as offshore or marine) where corrosion resistance is important. Our entire CL Series line of chain wheels is available in galvanized, as well as the C30 and C40. Custom Painted Chain Wheels All Roto Hammer Chain Wheels are primed in the trademark Roto Hammer blue color. However, we understand that some customers prefer a custom color to match their facilities. In these situations, we are happy to custom paint any of our chain wheels to match a customer specified color. This prevents the hassle of cutting and twisting chain to close the loop. Simple installation can be accomplished with either vise-grips or pliers used to close the open ends around the next link of chain. Roto Links are made of T302 Annealed Stainless Steel for its non-corrosive properties. CHUCKET Chain Storage Bucket The Chucket Chain Storage Bucket stores chain within easy reach while freeing the path below the chain wheel operator, eliminating the safety hazard posed by overhead chain. 13 Gear Box Our gear box is designed for applications where 90 degree direction change is required, from vertical to horizontal or vice versa. The gear box can be used in conjunction with Roto Hammer Valve Extensions, Hand Wheels, and Chain Wheels. It is a 1 to 1 ratio gear box. Universal Slip Joint Floor Stand Roto Hammer Floor Stands provide convenient, manual control of below grade valves. Our floor stands can be installed at ground, slab or floor level. Relocate valve to a more convenient location 2. Reengineer catwalk to allow access to valve 3. Call Roto Hammer for a Custom Solution Relocating the valve was impossible, and creating a new catwalk was cost prohibitive. Our customer opted to call Roto Hammer. He immediately spoke to one of our Custom Solution Specialists, who was able to walk the customer through several options. Our final solution was to engineer an extension control with gear box and hand wheel to bridge the distance between the valve and the catwalk. After As you can see from the before and after pictures, the valve is now easily accessible to an operator standing on the catwalk. While this solution was entirely customized to the customer s unique situation, the entire set up was built using off-the-shelf parts.
