5 Darwin Collection Darwin Office Solutions Specifications Suggested layouts - Index Darwin specifications Specifications Worksurfaces and sides are 1 1 4" thick; backs, modesty panels and fronts are 3 4" thick. Pedestals (desks and credenzas) are not handed and can be installed either on left or right. Furniture is assembled using Minifix quick connectors. Tops feature solid hardwood edges with mitred corners. Tops have a 1" overhang all around, unless flush sides is specified. Levelers allow up to 3 4" height adjustment and they are adjustable from the inside on storage modules. All dimensions shown are nominal. Approximate weights and volumes relate to crated items and are indicated for shipping purposes. Veneer Genuine veneers, selectively book matched on all surfaces to provide proper consistency. Drawer construction Four-corner dovetailed box and file drawers are built as separate units for strength and durability. All drawers are finished with a 7-step catalyzed varnish finish to seal the grain and provide a smooth inner surface. Drawers are built with 7 16" wood sides and 3 16" wood bottoms. Drawer front is book matched veneer and is attached separately. Careful attention is paid to the selection, preparation, staining and shading processes. However, due to the natural characteristics of real wood grain, texture, and local density certain variations will occur from one piece to another, emphasizing the wood s natural beauty. Assembly is done with Minifix hardware, ensuring a strong and tight bond through metal-on-metal contact. Tops and all exposed edges are finished with a matching veneer edge banding. Desks and tables Desktops and sides are 1 1 4"-thick substrate with wood veneer covering and wood veneer edge. Pedestals are factory installed and cannot be changed on location. A grommet is standard in the center back of the worksurface, and a half-moon grommet is standard on the back of the credenza. Positions of grommets are predetermined, and grommets are factory installed. Pedestals and lateral files Pedestals of the collection have 3 4"-thick sides all around and, when part of a desk or a credenza, are made in the corresponding depth to replace a panel side leg. The bottom is reinforced with a solid wood piece to receive levelers. Polymer glides with threaded 1 4" metal stem and adjusting nut are set in solid lumber, insuring easy height adjustments up to 1 1 4" for uneven floors. Proper leveling is essential for good operation of doors, drawers and locking mechanisms. All pedestals are available separately with a 1 1 4" (30 mm)-thick top and matching back. They can be used independently or to complete a credenza and, as well, support a choice of stacking storage units, enabling flexible modular wall unit design. Drawers Box and file drawers are built as separate units using dovetail joints at all four-corners for structural strength and durability. Drawer sides are built with 7 16" plywood with lacquered veneer covering. Drawer bottoms are made of a 3 16" laminate with a smooth, durable and easy to clean vinyl finish. Drawer fronts are attached to the four-sided box and have vertically matched veneer over the entire set of drawers to ensure a con - sistent appearance for each pedestal. Pedestal file drawers are equipped to accept letter size hanging files (front-to-back) and legal size files (side-to-side). Drawer suspension File drawers utilize a heavy duty, fullextension, metal ball bearing slide for smooth operation. Box drawers operate on full ex - tension slides allowing total access to the drawer. Full extension drawer glides operate on high quality, grade 200 hard steel with a 16" run for deep drawers and 22" run for 30" and 36" deep pedestals. They include a poly urethane shock absorber and an automatic security system to prevent the simultaneous opening of two drawers in a lateral file. These glides allow for a very smooth, progressive, and silent action. Load capacity meets or exceeds ANSI/BIFMA norms (100 lbs for pedestal utility drawers and 135 lbs for file drawers). Locks Timberline security locks are standard on all desk, credenza, return, and lateral file drawers. Locks are also an available option on other storage units, cabinets and hutch doors. Edge banding is 2.5 mm thick and matches the laminate finish. Adjustable glides keep surfaces level. Most products are shipped pre-assembled. Products that are shipped ready-to-configure have most fittings pre-attached for quick installation. All dimensions shown are nominal. Approximate weights and volumes relate to crated items and are indicated for shipping purposes. Drawer suspension File drawers utilize a heavy-duty full extension ball bearing slide for smooth operation. Box drawers operate on full extension slides allowing total access to drawer.
