All praise be to Allah, We thank Him for His Bounty that we are able to gather here today for this 2

3 Memorandum of Collaboration signing (MOC) between Perbadanan Nasional Berhad (PNS) and Old Town White Coffee. 2. I am pleased for the effort and cooperation which will be produced in mere moments, and will have a positive impact on the country s franchise industry. Ladies & Gentlemen, 3. As you are all aware, Oldtown White Coffee is a chain of kopitiam which was adapted from the original concept of Old Coffee Shops in Ipoh, which successfully strengthened their franchise business with a chain of 200 outlets throughout Malaysia. Congratulations and well done. 4. As the government agency which is reponsible for leading the franchise industry, Perbadanan Nasional Berhad (PNS) constantly explores new opportunities 3

4 which can improve the quality of the country s franchise industry. 5. Realising our role as the agency not only responsible for the development of the franchise industry, but also for the birth of franchise human capital which has quality in terms of services and expertise, the Franchise Job Placement Program was established. This program intends to produce more franchise entrepreneurs and serves as an endeavour to encourage the positive development of Malaysia s Franchise industry. 6. Through its Academy, PNS is confident that this is the best platform and method for local entrepreneurs to strengthen their business in the long term. 7. This Franchise Job Placement Program will gradually involve a number of local franchise companies. PNS had discussions with a few franchisors to make this program a reality, whereby it will be open to all potential entrepreneurs including Bumiputra graduates who are interested to delve into franchising. 4

5 8. Therefore, today PNS and Oldtown White Coffee has reached an agreement to execute this collaboration which will be signed shortly. 9. Through this program, Oldtown White Coffee requires individuals who are interested in becoming franchise business owners or building a career in franchising. A working contract for one (1) year will be given to successful applicants, apart from being given a chance to own a franchise business with financial assistance of up to 70% subject to the terms and conditions of PNS. 10. PNS Academy plays an important role to ensure franchise education to all participants runs smoothly where they will be required to attend at least two days of training each month at PNS Academy. At the same time, PNS Academy will bear 50% of the training fees. Whereas participants who excel during the contract period will be given an opportunity to secure a permanent job position, subject to the employer s discretion. 5

6 Ladies and Gentlemen, 11. With the signing of this MOC, it is another phase for the roles and responsibilities of PNS in our efforts to provide various forms of assistance and support, to future entrepreneurs. As an agency which has been given responsibility to lead the growth of the country s franchise industry, PNS is always committed to fulfill the government s intention for solidifying Malaysia s franchise industry. This huge role and responsibility will continuously be driven by the combined energy of all parties including KPDNKK, MFA, financiers and financial institutions, franchisors as well as all franchise players in the country. 12. I hope that with the signing of this Memorandum of Collaboration, it will increase the number of franchise entrepreneurs in Malaysia who have lofty ambitions, prepared to explore the franchise industry as their source of income, besides molding knowledgable entrepreneurs in the franchise business. 6

Hopefully this collaboration will liven up the franchise industry in Malaysia further, and achieves the objectives of both parties.
