Guardian System Maintenance Procedure TITLE Guardian System Maintenance Procedure PRODUCT 1. Guardian System NUMBER MP-001 DATE 24 March 17 AUTHORISED BY Erica Collins REVISION # Original PREPARED BY Christian Kent ZENDESK REF # SAFETY GENERAL

Reason for Bulletin This guide has been designed for non-certified technicians in order to allow them to conduct approved maintenance on the Guardian System. This guide will be provided to customers who have been authorized to conduct maintenance where it is not practical or economical to send a technician to site. This guide will be provided to the customer after a support ticket has been raised with the 24/7 Support Centre. Please note that no maintenance work is approved without a support ticket being raised. The guide describes the different components of the Guardian System and includes step-by-step instructions to diagnose and rectify faults. Maintenance conducted using this guide will not void the Guardian System warranty. It is not guaranteed that these steps will rectify problems. Advanced fault rectification must be carried out by a certified technician. Any Certified Technicians using this Document should note that this guide does not supersede any instructions given in the Guardian System Manual and Training.

Parts of the Guardian System Guardian Processor Unit This is the computer that runs all the components of the Guardian System. The Processor is commonly installed behind/under the passenger seat or behind the driver s seat. 1 x In-Cab Driver Facing Sensor The Sensor that monitors the driver. The Driver Facing Sensor is found on the dashboard with direct line of sight to the driver. 1 x In-Cab Driver Facing Sensor Connector Connects the In-Cab Driver Facing Sensor to the Guardian Processor Unit. The connector may be located either on top of, or under the dashboard. The connector is locked in place using the red pin that stops the release from being pressed.

2 x IR Illuminator Provides even illumination of the driver s face in dark and low light conditions. Commonly found on the Dashboard or the driver side A pillar. One IR Illuminator will be located on either side of the camera. 2 x IR illuminator Connectors Connects the IR Illuminators to the In-Cab Driver Facing Sensor. Commonly found on the dashboard behind the In- Cab Driver Facing Sensor. Make sure the pins in the connector line up then twist the end to tighten the connector in place. May be placed under the dashboard out of reach, and not visible. 1 x GPS antenna This GPS antenna provides the location and speed of the Guardian System. Commonly found on the inside of a cabin window or windscreen, but may be located under the dashboard.

1 x 3G/GPS antenna This antenna allows the Guardian System to upload data over a 3G connection. In the event the other GPS antenna is not installed this antenna may also provide the location and speed of the Guardian System. Commonly found on the inside of a cabin window or windscreen, or under a dashboard. 1 x Wi-Fi antenna This antenna allows the Guardian System to upload data over a Wi-Fi connection or receive data from the Forward Facing Camera (when included). Commonly found on the inside of a cabin window or windscreen, but may be placed under the dashboard. 1 x Seat Vibration Motor (when included) This motorised vibration unit is designed to be attached to the driver s seat and alerts a driver when they are fatigued or distracted. Commonly found on the underside or the back of the driver s seat.

1 x Forward Facing Camera (when included) This camera captures video footage in front of the vehicle and is commonly placed in the middle, at the top or bottom of the windscreen. A cable is run to the Forward-Facing Camera from the Guardian Processor Unit. It is secured by a tamperproof cover (shown) with a Torx 6 security screw as to not fall loose from the camera.

Guardian System Operation and Fault Rectification This section details what the system should do as it boots up to be fully functional. If the system fails, this process can be used to help identify the problem and a possible solution. Event order Event Description Solution 1. Before starting ensure the vehicle has been off for at least 30 min. This makes sure the Guardian System has completely shut down in order to observe the startup sequence. 2. Start the vehicle s engine This makes sure the vehicles battery isn t drained in the process of fault finding, and runs at a minimum of 12 volts or above. 3. Listen for a clicking sound from the Driver Facing Sensor. This should occur about 25 seconds after power up. The sound indicates that the Guardian System is receiving power and has begun the start-up procedure. If you don t hear the sound, try repeating steps 1-2. If there is still no sound there could be a problem with the System drawing power. A Certified Technician is required. Alternatively, an RMA may be required. Note: The sound may be hard to hear in a busy workshop or other loud environments.

Event order Event Description Solution 4. Wait for the IR Illuminators to light up. This should occur seconds after step 3. And indicates that the Guardian System s software has started up correctly. If you don t see these light up retry step 1-2. If this still has not resolved the issue, check the cables running from the back of the Driver Facing Sensor and make sure that no cables have been cut or unplugged. If the cable is disconnected at the plug at the back of the camera, reinsert the plug and twist both sides to secure in place. If it is disconnected from the IR Illuminator side of the cable it requires a Certified technician to fix. Note: The lights may be hard to see when in direct sunlight and may need to be covered to be seen.

Event order Event Description Solution Visualy inspect the IR Illuminator Covers 5. Look at the light under the Driver Facing Sensor. The IR Illuminators provide the light by which the sensor sees. Without these the Sensor CANNOT see the operators face, during the day or the night Make sure the IR Illuminators are not covered and are clean of obstructions such as dirt or dust. This should light up at the same time as the IR Illuminators and will stay illuminated for approx. 2 min after starting. The light will show Green when no faults are present. Make sure the IR illuminators are facing towards the driver and are not blocked by other vehicle systems or vehicle structures (eg steering wheel). If the IR Illuminators are incorrectly positioned they will need to be repositioned by a Certified Technician. If the light shows as Red, it indicates one of the System Components may not be working. Try repeating steps 1-4, this may fix the problem. Look for any of the cables running from Guardian System Components that may be cut, damaged or unplugged. If the problem persists a Certified Technician is required.

Event order Event Description Solution 6. Press and hold the Test button on the Driver Facing Sensor The light under the Driver Facing Sensor also operates as a Test Button. Press and hold the button for 2 seconds (4.1 & 4.2 software*) or 4 seconds (4.3 software when available*) until the Driver Facing Camera beeps and the Vibration Motor goes off (when included). The lights will stay illuminated for 30 seconds. The light will show Green no faults are present. *to ascertain the software version, contact 24/7 Support. If the light shows Amber an intermittent fault has been detected. This is usually a connectivity issue through either 3G or GPS signals. Possible fixes include moving the vehicle into an area of better reception (away from large buildings or out from under-cover or away from large metal bodies). If the problem persists, repeat steps 1-5. If the light shows as Red, it indicates one of the System Components is not working. Look for any of the cables running from Guardian System Components that have been cut, damaged or unplugged. Try repeating steps 1-5, this may fix the problem. If the problem persists a Certified Technician is required.

Event order Event Description Solution 7. Conduct a visual inspection of the Driver Facing Sensor In order for the Guardian System to detect fatigue and distraction, the Driver Facing Sensor must be able to clearly see the face of the driver. Make sure the lens of the Sensor is clean of dirt and not blocked by anything. (E.g. Fingerprints, dirt, dust, tape, grease or other obstructions.) If the view of the driver is impeded by vehicle systems, (i.e. vehicle steering wheel, or other third party products), an extension bracket may be required. This will need to be conducted by a Certified Technician. Clean the lens with a soft lint free cloth being careful to not cause scratches.

Event order Event Description Solution 8. Check the orientation of the Driver Facing Sensor. In order for the Guardian System to detect fatigue and distraction, the Driver Facing Sensor must be able to clearly see the face of the driver. It is important to make sure the Driver Facing Sensor is pointed towards the driver. A Driver Facing Sensor pointing away from the driver may be evidence of tampering. An Indicator that the Driver Facing Sensor is out of position is, when seated in a median position in the driver s seat look at the Sensor. Both sides of the Sensor Bracket should appear even, if not then the Sensor may be positioned incorrectly. If the Sensor is unaligned check to see if any screws are loose or missing. This requires a certified technician to realign before tightening but contact support early to source replacement screws.

Event order Event Description Solution 9. Ensure all the Driver Facing Sensor screws are in place and tightened as to not fall loose. There are four screws connecting the Driver Facing Sensor to its bracket. Two on the left and two on the right. There may also be bracket extensions, these require 4 screws to attach them to each subsequent bracket. The lowest bracket is attached to the mounting surface using two selftapping screws. Have a look at the Sensor and make sure all screws are present and are securely fastened to the bracket. If screws are missing a Certified technician is needed to replace them using the appropriate tools and to check the integrity of the sensors alignment.

Event order Event Description Solution 10.Ensure the vibration motor is firmly attached to the drivers seat. Mounting Plates The Vibration Motor must be firmly attached to the driver s seat in order to elicit an appropriate alert to alert a driver. The Motor will either be attached directly to the seat or by the mounting plates on a bar on the seat. Check to make sure all bolts or screws are tightly secured to the seat. Tighten any screws or bolts to the Vibration Motor mount. If the screw holes have been stripped of their thread and slip in and out of their holes, the Vibration Motor will need to be relocated. If any screws or bolts are missing you may replace them using an appropriate sized replacement using vibration proof locking mechanisms. I.E. (split-ring washers, nylock nuts, or lock tight on nuts.) 11.Check the antenna location. Check the antennas to make sure all antennas are away from devices and materials that may cause interference, such as other antennas and pieces of metal between an antenna and its view of the sky Check all three antennas, making sure they are 30cm from each other and at least 60cm from any other antennas in the cab. Make sure no metal is blocking the antennas view of the sky as to block any incoming signals.

Event order Event Description Solution 12.Sim Card If a Guardian System is Identified to be offline, either by SM personnel or company employees with access to the DSSi (Seeing Machines database that allows managers and dispatchers to monitor driver fatigue and distraction) and the above step has not fixed the problem. It may be a problem with the SIM card installed in the system. The SIM card is provided by the company of the vehicles installed in. Please contact the service provider to ensure the SIM card is still active on their system. If this does not fix the problem a Certified Technician is required to check that the SIM card is not damaged or does not need to be replaced.

Follow up Any issues found using the process outlined in this document need to be reported to the 24/7 Support Centre. This will assist Seeing Machines in determining any larger issues present with the system in the case that none of the above fixes work. Contacting support will generate a ticket, this is a thread of s that will update with the progression of the error. If the error requires a certified technician to fix, reporting the error to Seeing Machines Support will allow the technician to prepare appropriately to solve the issue. In certain circumstances, untrained technicians may be asked to conduct a fix on the guardian system. In this case Seeing Machines will provide specific instructions to conduct the fix, and sets of the special equipment required to access the system. This will not void the Guardian Systems warranty. Failure to comply with the instructions provided by Seeing Machines may void the warranty.
