2 Document Number CA1N4455E-P5 April, 013 MXG461 U, MXF461 U Modulating Control Valves with Magnetic Actuators Application The MXG461...U (screwed fitting) and MXF461...U (flange fitting) valves are mixing or straight-through valves with a factory calibrated and mounted magnetic actuator. The magnetic actuator incorporates an electronics module for position control and positioning feedback. Control path A AB is closed when the valve is de-energized. CAUTION: The valve is suitable for straight-through normally closed or three-way applications and may be installed only in a mixing arrangement. The direction of flow (A AB) must be as indicated on the valve. The fast positioning time, high resolution and high rangeability make these valves ideal for modulating control of chilled and hot water systems in closed circuits. Sturdy construction makes maintenance and regular servicing unnecessary and ensures a long service life. Principles/ Construction Automatic Control Valve Characteristic The control signal is converted by the microprocessor in the electronics module into an output signal that generates a magnetic field in the core. This causes the only moving part, the armature, to change its position in accordance with the interacting forces (magnetic field, counter-spring, hydraulics, and so on). The armature responds rapidly to any change in signal, transferring the corresponding movement directly to the control disc, enabling fast changes in load to be corrected quickly and accurately. The valve position is measured continuously. The positioning controller ensures an exactly proportional relationship between the control signal and the valve stroke. 3 MXG461 U, MXF461 U Modulating Control Valves With Magnetic Actuators Technical Instructions Document Number CA1N4455E-P5 April, 013 Manual Control The valve control path (ports A AB) can be opened mechanically up to 95% of the full stroke by pressing the handwheel inward and turning it clockwise (to the MANUAL position). This disables the control signal from the controller. To disable automatic control of the valve, press the handwheel inward and turn it counterclockwise (to the OFF position). The valve will close. For automatic control, the handwheel must be set to the AUTO position (the handwheel will spring out). Sval0006R1 OFF AUTO MANUAL Figure 3. Selecting Automatic Control. Technical/ Mechanical Design Operation Control The electronics module converts the positioning signal to a phase-cut power signal, which generates a magnetic field in the coil. This causes the armature to change its position according to the interacting forces (magnetic field, counterspring, hydraulics, etc.). The armature responds rapidly to any change in signal, transferring the corresponding movement directly to the valve plug. This enables fast changes in load to be corrected quickly and accurately. The valve s position is measured continuously. Any disturbance in the system is rapidly corrected by the internal positioning controller, which ensures that the positioning signal and the valve stroke are exactly proportional, and also delivers the position feedback signal. Page Siemens Industry, Inc.
13 MXG461B Series Modulating Control Valve Technical Instructions with Magnetic Actuator Document Number March 19, 014 Control The magnetic actuator can be driven by any controller with a 0/ to 10 Vdc or 0/4 to 0 ma output signal. To achieve optimum control performance, it is recommended to use a 4-wire connection for the valve. NOTE: When using a dc power supply a 4-wire connection is mandatory. The controller s signal ground terminal M must be connected to the valve s terminal M. Terminals M and G0 have the same potential, and are internally interconnected in the valve s electronics. CAUTION: You must use a four-wire connection with Vdc power supply. Control path A AB can be mechanically opened to between 80% and 90%, or counterclockwise (CCW). The actuator will be switched off and the valve closed. As soon as the hand wheel is pressed and turned, neither the forced control signal Z, the input signal Y, nor the phase-cut signal acts on the actuator. The green LED will flash. For automatic control, the hand wheel must be set to the Auto position. The green LED will be lit. Figure. Calibration If the electronics module is replaced or the actuator turned through 180, the valve s electronics must be recalibrated. To recalibrate, the hand wheel must be set to Auto. The printed circuit board has a slot (see Figure 3). Calibrate by bridging the contacts located behind the slot on the printed circuit board, using a screwdriver. The valve will then travel across the full stroke to store the end positions. While calibration is in progress, the green LED will flash for about 10 seconds (see Indication of Operating State). 22 Document No June 17, 008 MVF461H Series Modulating Control Valves with Magnetic Actuators, Positioning Control and Position Feedback for Hot Water and Steam Description Control valves with magnetic actuators, for modulating control of hot water, high temperature hot water, and steam. Features Fast positioning time (< seconds) Selectable valve characteristic: Equal percentage or linear Selectable standard interface: 0/ to 10 Vdc or 0/4 to 0 ma High resolution (>1:1000) High rangeability Wear-free inductive stroke measurement Spring return A AB closed when de-energized Positioning control and position feedback signal Low-friction, heavy-duty and maintenance-free Phase-cut signal input for Staefa controllers Product Numbers See Table 1. Warning/Caution Notations WARNING: CAUTION: Personal injury or loss of life may occur if you do not follow the procedures as specified. Equipment damage or loss of data may occur if you do not follow the procedures as specified. Application The MVF461H Series valves are through-port or mixing valves with magnetic actuators. The actuator is equipped with an electronics module for positioning control and position feedback. If the power is off, the valve control path A AB is closed. The short positioning time, high resolution and high rangeability make these valves ideal for proportional control of district heating stations, and heating applications using high temperature hot water and steam. Δps = Maximum permissible differential pressure at which the motorized valve will close securely against the pressure (close-off pressure). S NA = Nominal apparent power for selecting the transformer. Pmed = Average true power. I N = Slow fuse (mandatory). Cv = Nominal flow rate of cold water [41 F to 86 F (5 C to 30 C)]. L = Maximum cable length. With four-wire connections the maximum permissible length of the separate 14 AWG Cu signal cable is 656 feet (00 m). The valve body and magnetic actuator assemblies cannot be separated. The assemblies can also be ordered with NPT flanges or weld flanges. To order with NPT flanges, add an -N suffix to the part number. To order with Weld Flanges, add a -W suffix to the part number. When placing an order, specify the quantity, product number and description. Examples: (without flanges) (with NPT flanges) (with weld flanges) 1 MVF461H valve 1 MVF461H N valve with NPT flanges 1 MVF461H W valve with weld flanges Accessory ASE1 Replacement Circuit Board Technical/ Mechanical Design Automatic Control The electronics module converts the positioning signal to a phase-cut power signal, which generates a magnetic field in the coil. 24 MVF461H Series Modulating Control Valve Technical Instructions with Magnetic Actuator Document Number June 17, 008 Control The magnetic actuator can be driven by any controller with a 0/ to 10 Vdc or 0/4 to 0 ma output signal. To achieve optimum control performance, using a 4-wire connection for the valve is recommended. The controller s signal ground terminal M must be connected to the valve s terminal M. Terminals M and G0 have the same potential and are internally interconnected in the valve s electronics. CAUTION: You must use a four-wire connection with Vdc power supply. Control path A AB can be mechanically opened to between 80% and 90%, or Man b Auto Off b counterclockwise (CCW). The actuator will be switched off and the valve closed. As soon as the hand wheel is pressed and turned, neither the forced control signal Z, the input signal Y, nor the phase-cut signal acts on the actuator. The green LED will flash. SSEN0336R1 For automatic control, the hand wheel must be set to the Auto position. The green LED will be lit. Figure 1. Calibration If the electronics module is replaced or the actuator turned through 180, the valve s electronics must be recalibrated. To recalibrate, the hand wheel must be set to Auto. The printed circuit board has a slot (see Figure ). Calibrate by bridging the contacts located behind the slot on the printed circuit board, using a screwdriver. The valve will then travel across the full stroke to store the end positions. SSEN0337R1 While calibration is in progress, the green LED will flash for about 10 seconds (see Table. 33 Document No. CA1N4454E-P5 January 17, 003 M3PFY..Series Modulating Control Valve ANSI 15 (PN 16) with Magnetic Actuator Warning/Caution Notations WARNING: CAUTION: Personal injury or loss of life may occur if you do not perform a procedure as specified. Equipment damage or loss of data may occur if you do not follow a procedure as specified. Application The M3P...FY valves are mixing or straight-through port valves with a ready-mounted magnetic actuator. The actuator has electronics for positioning control and position feedback. If the power is off, the valve control path 1 3 is closed. CAUTION: The valve is suitable for straight-through or three-way applications and may be installed only in a mixing arrangement. The short positioning time, high resolution and high rangeability make these valves ideal for proportional control of hot and chilled water systems. The low-friction, heavy-duty and maintenance-free construction makes regular service unnecessary. Ordering Technical/ Mechanical Design The valves are supplied with the magnetic actuator and terminal housing. The blank flanges required for straight-through applications must be ordered separately (see Accessories). When placing an order, specify the quantity, product number and description. Example: 1 M3P80FY flanged valve and 1 Z155/80 blank flange The control signal is converted in the terminal housing into a phase cut signal that generates a magnetic field in the coil. This causes the only moving part, the armature, to change its position in accordance with the interacting forces (magnetic field, counterspring, hydraulics, etc.). The armature responds rapidly to any change in signal, transferring the corresponding movement directly to the control disc, enabling fast changes in load to be corrected quickly and accurately. The valve position is measured continuously. Any disturbance in the system is rapidly corrected by the internal positioning controller, which ensures that the control signal and the valve stroke are exactly proportional, and also provides a feedback signal indicating the valve position Sval001R Figure 1.
