Productions COMPACT DEMOLITION DERBY RULES TOWING AND TRANSPORTATION OF CARS Towing and transporting demolition derby cars to and from race locations must meet highway safety codes (including proper light controls, safety chains, tow bars, towing trailers, etc.) TYPE OF CAR ACCEPTABLE FOR COMPACT CLASS Any American made, hard top automobile or station wagon is allowed. Compact cars may be four or six-cylinder front wheel drive only. PREPARATION OF COMPACT CAR REMOVE THE FOLLOWING BEFORE ARRIVING AT FAIRGROUDS OR TRACK: 1. All glass including windshield, side window, rear window, head and tail lights. Rolling windows down is NOT permitted. 2. All fiberglass, rubber or plastic header panels, headlight and tail light extensions, must be removed prior to start time. 3. Auto must be swept clean. NO junk tires, wheels, metal parts, broken glass, etc. allowed in car. 4. Chrome molding strips and complete rear seat must be removed. On station wagons, all rear seats must be removed. 5. Any sharp protruding fins or dangerous objects must be mashed down or cut off. 6. Bumper may be reinforced at mounting points. Officials discretion will apply. Fenders and bumper ends may be trimmed to allow for wheel clearance. On late models, shock bumper may be lightly welded or short pieces of chain from bolt on bumper to bolt on framer may be used. 7. Welded solid or chained down engine mounts are recommended. 8. Radiators must remain in original position or be taken out. Comparable replacement radiators are permitted. Radiators or cooling systems must be filled with water only or environmentally safe antifreeze. Transmission coolers are permitted but only if they are secured inside the engine compartment. Homemade radiators will be allowed only if they have a pressure relief valve. No overflow hoses pointed upward. They must be directed toward the ground. (NO EXCEPTIONS) 9. Four bar cage may be used around driver, over top of steering column from driver side to passenger side. 6 x6 plates may be used to fasten to inside of car. Cannot be attached to floor, side to side only.
2 10. All doors must be fastened shut by chains or welding for the drivers safety. 3 on, 3 off welds allowed per door, trunk or tailgate. NO LIMIT ON WELDING THE DRIVER DOOR OR PASSENGER DOOR. 11. Any battery size is permitted. Battery must be removed from original position and must be placed on the floorboard of the driver s compartment and securely fastened and covered with a rubber cover. 12. Hood, trunk or tailgate must be wired in 6 places each if not welded. Light chains may be used on trunk or tailgate. Wiring must be from sheet metal to sheet metal. No other wiring to bumpers or sub-frames. No welding of bumpers to body. No bands or cables can be used from sheet metal to frame. Officials decision on overuse of wires or chains will be final. Hoods must remain on cars. Hoods must have an opening of at least 12 inches by 12 inches square in case of fire. Inside trunk must be visible for inspector. No extra body mounts or reinforcements from body to frame. 13. Hood may be fastened down with 6 three quarter inch (3/4 ) bolts. Hood hinges must remain on car. Hood springs must be removed. Hood must be able to open for inspection. 14. Cars may be numbered. If you pick you own number, paint it clearly. Special numbers are permitted. Please add number on roof. If someone has already registered the same number, a new number will be assigned. NO PROFANITY OF ANY KIND WILL BE ALLOWED ON ANY PORTION OF THE CAR. 15. Stock gas tanks must be removed from original position and placed in front of rear axle and no farther forward than the rear of the front seat. All tanks must be securely fastened to floor and covered; a portable tank must be fastened down securely and covered with a rubber cover. No exceptions. Gas lines and fittings to fuel tanks must be secured and leak proof. Only metal or rubber gas lines are permitted. NO PLASTIC LINES! Approximately four (4) gallons of gas is permitted per heat. Electric fuel pumps permitted on fuel-injected cars only. Switches must be located on top of dash in front of driver. NO PLASTIC FUEL TANKS! Inspection official will give final approval on tanks and fittings. 16. Each driver and all mechanics must sign in at registration desk the day of the show and have their car inspected at least one hour prior to show time. 17. It is recommended that the driver s door be reinforced with steel bar, angle iron or pipe, the length not to extend more than eight (8) inches on either end of driver s door. Door to door bracing is allowed, but only in front of and behind front seat. 18. It is mandatory that an opening be cut in hood over carburetor, approximately 12 inches or larger, square or diameter. Visibility is mandatory into trunk area. No additional welding or reinforcing or tailgate is permitted. 19. Tires must be D.O.T. approved-10 ply maximum tires. Tires may be doubled. No studs or screw in rims to hold tires. Valve stem protectors are allowed. No split rims. Wheel weights must be removed. 20. A strong wire or nylon mesh screen is required on driver s windshield area.
3 21. Suspensions may be upgraded and locked in place but MUST appear OEM. 22. Door to door brace is mandatory. NO EXCEPTIONS. No farther up than three quarters of the seat. May be welded or bolted to the b pillar. 23. Four-point cage is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED. Cage cannot be connected to floor in any way. 24. Any OEM bumper is allowed. Bumpers are allowed to be reinforced with material inside (square tubing, c channel, etc.) 25. Bumpers may be attached and reinforced at mounting points with added material not extending any further than ten inches (10 ) inside the frame. 26. Rear window view protector is allowed. Bar cannot exceed 1 x1 (square tube recommended) Cannot be mounted any further forward than the front of the trunk lid, can be welded on 4 x 4 plate and can be welded to roof of said 4 x 4 plate. These measurements will be strictly enforced. Pro-mod Full Size Demolition Derby Rules PARTICIPANT REGULATIONS 2003 and newer Crown Vics must have stock cradle. No Jeeps, trucks (rancheros, el caminos are considered trucks) convertibles. No carry all s, hearses, limousines. No full-frame imperials. No Lincolns PREPARATION OF CARS SPRING POCKETS CANNOT BE REINFORCED. No screws allowed! Pre-denting and tucking is okay. Slogans, advertising or painting may be placed anywhere on the car except front doors. MANDATORY-you must have a readable roof sign with metal, lights, carpet, headliners, back seats, fiberglass, anything flammable except front seats must be removed before entering the exhibit area. DO NOT BREAK GLASS DOWN IN THE DOORS. Trunks must be empty of debris, spare tires, rims, parts, etc. Car must be clean of ALL glass. 9 WIRE Unlimited 9 wire but none around cage or halo bar. INSIDE OF CAR Wagons must have spare tire flap removed. Cars must be swept clean of glass and debris. No seam welding inside of car.
4 GAS AND BRAKE PEDAL Floor mounted gas and brake pedals must be mounted with four bolts only and cannot be mounted in any way for reinforcement of car and must be AT LEAST FOUR INCHES from any body mount, bolts or plates. ENGINES & TRANSMISSION & DRIVE SHAFTS Any engine or transmission may be used in any car but must be mounted within three inches of stock position. Motor mounts may be welded. Maximum 4 x 6 motor mount plates. Motors may be chained. Motors must have air breather. Transmission coolers are okay. High pressure hydraulic line recommended for this. Keep safety in mind when installing. Officials may disqualify you if they think installation is unsafe. You may tie motor down with two chains with two links welded to the engine cross member/cradle or two straps 1 x 3 weld to engine cross member/cradle or wire in addition to motor mounts. Any drive shaft is okay. DRIVE SHAFT TRANSMISSION CROSSMEMBER OEM transmission cross member or 2 x 2 OD ¼ maximum replacement. Must be mounted with at least 2 space from all transmission protector components. You may weld or bolt a 2 angle iron to inside of frame, 5 maximum, to facilitate the mounting of cross member. Center mount may not exceed a normal transmission mount bolt area 6 maximum. No additional bracing allowed. If you bolt a maximum of two bolts on side rails or tranny mount, all tranny mounts must have the ability to slide unobstructed backwards. (Means any bolt hole must be slotted to have slide to back) DISTRIBUTOR PROTECTORS/ENGINE CRADLES/MID PLATES (MATERIALS FOR THIS ½ OR LESS) Distributor protectors are allowed but must be no wider than 12 and distributor protector cannot be more than 3 maximum away from distributor cap. May not be welded, bolted or connected to body, hood or frame. MUST BE A MINIMUM OF 6 FROM DASH BAR ON ALL CARS, USED OR NEW. Forward supports must be inside normally positioned headers and not extend past the water pump. AFTER MARKET ENGINE CRADLES ARE ALLOWED. Cradle to mid plate may be connected but in no way connected to frame. Can be no farther forward than 8 from original mounts. Must connect to frame as a standard mount would. If you run a pulley protector, it must be 3 away from sway bar. Mid plate must have gap between it and firewall. Mid plate no wider than 27. If you have no distributor protector, you may weld two 1 diameter rods, one on each side, from dash car to top side of frame. Must be at least 3 behind a-arms welded to top side of frame only.
5 BATTERIES Battery box will be a minimum of 6 away from body mounts. Two 12 volt batteries, maximum! Must be placed in a secure position and covered with rubber or something nonflammable. Batteries must be securely fastened to floor. NO EXCEPTIONS. RADIATORS & FANS May be removed but no relocated. OEM style radiators only. NO homemade or tube style. AC condensers, if left in, may be retained by four. 3 x 6 x ¼ straps, maximum and eight 3/8 bolts with 1 washers. Straps may be welded to core support. Core bolts must be vertical. GAS TANKS Maximum of ten gallons of gas. Gas tanks must be placed in back seat area and properly secured. Tanks must be secured so there is NO movement. Do not use bungee cords for this. If tank is not secure, you will not be running. Tanks must have secure caps and be leak proof. Lines must be leak proof. Stock gas tanks in cars must be removed or have holes punched in them and washed out. NO PLASTIC TANKS ALLOWED!!! Exception: plastic racing fuel cells are allowed. Gas tank must be covered. CAGE/HALO/FRONT & REAR WINDOW BARS Cage is allowed two side bars, maximum. Size 6 tubing or channel. Max of three cross bars allowed no larger than 5 diameter, no curved dash bars, must be a minimum of 5 from center of fire wall, minimum of 10 from floor. No higher than bottom of side windows. Rear bar may attach to front side of inner tire well, must be 2 off of backseat panel. Four down legs allowed 6 wide maximum. Two down legs may go to frame in between inside seams of both front doors cannot be connected to body mount bolts. Must be vertical. Two down legs may attach to body in back seat area, may not be within 6 of body mount bolts or body mount plate. You are allowed a gas tank protector 6 x 24 must be at least 2 from back seat panel. May attach to second bar. Halo bar may be added to cage. 5 diameter maximum. May go to floor pan sheet metal, not to frame. Must be vertical, NO TILTING. Must be within 12 of driver s seat. Maybe only be attached to roof with two bolts. Front windshield bars can only be 2 ½ x ¼ max. Two bars only. May not extend more than 3 past windshield opening. Cannot be directly behind distributor protector. No cross bars. The front bars are a minimum of 16 apart. Cannot attach a halo bar. FLAT STRAP ONLY. Rear window protectors will either be 9 wire or max of 3/8 chain not welded solid. You are allowed two 3 max retaining plate to attach rear window protector.
6 FRONT & BACK BUMPER Must start with a factory bumper. May reinforce the inside of bumper but must remain stock appearing. Reinforced no wider than frame rails. OUTSIDE OF BUMPERS MUST BE STOCK APPEARING. Must have hold in the end of the bumper. End of bumper must be same width as center of the bumper. All bumpers can only be reinforced between front bumper skin and stock backing. No homemade pointy s No reconfiguration brackets on front. All brackets and shocks must be mounted outside of frame unless factory shocks were mounted inside of frame (example: 80 s Ford) Cadillacs and Y frame Chryslers must be mounted outside the frame. Bumpers and brackets may be welded to frame to hold bumper on only. Or 2 ¼ all thread may be used with 4 washer, max. Washer cannot be welded. Bumper height from ground 16 minimum, 22 maximum from bottom of bumper. For front of cars, you must use front bumper brackets. NO rear brackets on front (OEM) anything excessive will not be allowed. DOORS All doors and wagon gates must be chained, wired or welded shit. All doors except wagon gates, may be welded solid outside only. You may use a 3 strap for this. Wagon gates may weld four 3 plates or bolt four places ¼ all thread with washers no bigger than 4 outside diameter. Driver s door can have on bar attached 3 past front doors. HOODS/CORE SUPPORT If hoods are removed or a blade showing, belts must be cut or fan blade removed. Hoods must have two holes cut in them for fire extinguishers. Not directly over carburetor. You may sue six all thread no larger than 1 with washers no bigger than 6 outside diameter. Only two may go through the frame **THESE TWO MUST BE ON THE OUTSIDE OF RADIATOR SUPPORT** Must go through core support bolt holes. No welding TO body or frame may weld to core support. Spacers no bigger than 4 material may be sued. No welding to body or frame. May weld to core support. None in front of radiator. Caddies and Chryslers mount the two all thread through frame as a GM or Ford would be. NO WELDING ON HOODS. THEY MUST BE OPEN FOR INSPECTION. You may use SAE 3/8 bolts with washers no larger than 1 outside diameter around header holes, fire holes. No more than 20 bolts for this. TRUNKS You can use four 1 all thread with washer no larger than 6 outside diameter. Two may go through frame. You can use 10 SAE 3/8 bolts with washers no larger than 1 outside diameter around lip of trunk lid-must be on drip rail) or ten 1 welds around trunk lid. If you don t bolt you may weld trunk lid. Weld 6 leave 6. 3 strap max. Tucking or V ing of trunk is allowed. NO WEDGING. Quarter panels must remain vertical within 3 of OEM position. One trunk lid per car.
7 BODY Creasing of body allowed but cannot be welded or bolted. Cannot be double creased. No adding of skins. May patch rust hold but must be visible for inspectors. NO other body seam welding except what is stated in the rules. NO SEAM WELDING. SEDAGON You may sedagon a pre ran wagon but cannot exceed four ¾ all thread with 6 outside diameter washers. Also may use ten 3/8 bolts with washers no bigger than 1 outside diameter or weld ten 1 spots along with 4 all thread. None can go to frame. You cannot exceed this. FENDERS You may trim fenders. You can bolt fenders. Ten bolts per fender with bolts no bigger than SAE 3/8 bolts with washers no bigger than 1 outside diameter. Or weld 1, leave 1, but not BOTH. REAR QUARTER PANEL IS CONSIDERED FENDER. TIRES AND RIMS 14 ply fork lift tires okay. Do not exceed this. For those that don t have these, tire inside of tire is okay. Field tile inside of tire is okay. Foam filled tires okay. V-tread tires okay. NO liquid filled tires. No split rims, no paddle tires. Tires screwed to rims okay on backside only. Valve stem protectors are okay. No reinforcing of rims except around bolt holes. 2 maximum on outside diameter of lug holes. OLD IRON LEAF FIXING 6 leafs max. 2 ½ wide, 2 stagger, longest spring 5. No thicker than 5/16. Four clamps per side. Must be mounted as factory leaves would be mounted. Wagons must be done as factory. LEAF SPRING SPECIFICATIONS Converting coil springs to leaf is allowed but you must follow these rules. Springs must have at least a 2 stagger, no more than four clamps per side, no more than seven springs per side (car springs only). Springs must be no more than 2 ½ wide, longest spring must be no longer than 5. Thickness no more than 5/16. This will be checked with a 5/16 wrench. If leaf pack is less than six springs, hump plates may be used. Refer to hump plate section for specifications. Main leaf must be top leaf.
8 LEAF SPRING MOUNTING Front spring must use factory suspension hole (trailer arm hole). Reinforcement of this hold must not exceed 3 of center of this hole and must be done on outside of frame only and using metal no thicker than the frame. Any reinforcement found on inside of frame will be cause for immediate disqualification. No reinforcement for leaf spring hanging. Washers no bigger than 4 and outside bracket no longer than 8 total. No welding except what it takes to mount the brackets. This conversion must be as close as possible to OEM style mounting. Example: mid 70 s style GM wagons and Chryslers. If officials find you went beyond how factory leaf springs are mounted on factory leaf cars, you will NOT be allowed to participate and NO REFUND OF ENTRY FEE. NO FLAT SPRING CARS. REAR ENDS Must be OEM origin, eight lug max. Rear end bracing allowed. Braces are for the sole purpose of strengthening rear end housing only. Trailing arms may be lengthened or shortened. Must be of passenger vehicle origin and may be reinforced. Rear ends with bigger than 35 spline axles will be allowed to compete with stock trailing arms or if a leafed car with 4 stagger in leaves. If driver refuses to pull axle, if any question of size of axle, that driver shall be disqualified. Watts link conversions on newer Fords. You may convert a watts link to a standard 4 link system in the following way; use the upper and lower trailing arm brackets off an older Ford. No shortening of trailing arms, no positioning brackets to strengthen front down legs of the rear hump. Must mount in the stock location. Use upper mount tray out of older car but must leave 2 of original factory package tray to weld to. May not be welded to frame. Do not re-weld seam. Welds may only weld to tray package. IF YOU 35 SPLINE AXELS OR LESS YOU CAN HAVE AXEL SAVERS. A-ARM/TIE RODS/BALL JOINTS/SPINDLES/FRONT SPRINGS Tie rods ends must be factory OEM (passenger car origin). Turn buckle may be reinforced with sleeve. After market tie rod ends allowed but NO HEIM JOINTS. May weld in ball joints with the sole purpose of retaining ball joints in factory position only. Must be OEM screw in ball joints allowed. No after-market spindles or hubs. A-arms you may weld, bolt or chain down. You are allowed either two straps 2x3 max. Nothing may contact frame (do not weld whole a-arm down). May use 1 chain or 1 bolt. All straps, bolts, chains must be in middle of a-arm. All attachments must be made to spring bucket only.
9 FRAMES Welding on frames is allowed from in front of the a-arm forwards. Top seam only. Do not exceed ½ weld. You can weld 12 max behind a-arms and no further back thank front of front door not to exceed ½ weld. Can be split however driver wishes, but do NOT EXCEED 12. No added metal. No concrete. Do not reinforce frame. Notching frame is permitted. Plates allowed on fresh cars; max four 5x4x1/4 flat plates. You can add two more plates 5x4x1/4 to a pre run car but you can only have a total of four plates on front of the car. The front of the car is considered from the firewall forwards. Must have at least 4 between patches and all other brackets. Do not cut these patches into smaller ones. You may run a chain from frame to frame in the back. ABSOLUTELY NO UNDER COATING OR PAINTING ON FRAME. Cross member may be welded but not reinforced. If you re-sub frame, it must be model to model. Mopar and Cadillacs can close in the Y on the front part of frame but cannot add metal to do this. NO FRAME SQUARING. YOU CAN SHORTEN FRAME BUT ONLY IN FRONT OF THE TWO FACTORY CORE SUPPORT MOUNTS. ZERO TOLERANCE FOR ANY RECONFIGURATION OF CORE SUPPORT MOUNT HOLES. THIS MEANS NO MOVING MOUTNING EARS ON FORD STOCK WELD VISIBLE OR DRILLING NEW HOLES FOR CHEVY CORE SUPPORT MOUNT HOLES. HUMP PLATES Maximum thickness ¼. Max length 14. Must be in center of hump on outside of frame only. Plate must be cut to contour to frame. BODY MOUNT BOLTS Body mount rubbers may be removed. Mount bolts may be replaced with ¾. You may add two extra body mount bolts anywhere you want but do not exceed this. If extra body mounts are horizontal, can be no longer than 7. Bottom body mount washers must be inside frame or removed for inspection. If you used all thread; two nuts, two washers. If you use bolts; one nut, two washers. Body mount washers 5x3/16 max.
10 SAFETY RULES AND REGULATIONS **IT IS THE RESPONSILIBITY OF DRIVERS TO READ AND UNDERSTAND THESE RULES. FAILURE TO COMPLY FOR ANY REASON WILL RESULT IN DISQUALIFICATION. DECISIONS OF OFFICIALS ARE FINAL. NO EXCEPTIONS! ** 1. Cars must have two bars attached to center of windshield from roof down to dash area to prevent debris from coming in. Cannot be attached to halo bar. Door to door bars are highly recommended. 2. Radiator overflow hoses must be pointing at ground and fastened so they cannot shoot water towards officials or other drivers. 3. Header pipes must be pointing straight up and cannot be aimed toward front of the car. 4. Note: if you have a hold in the fire wall it should be covered. 5. Safety bolts required. 6. Full face DOT helmets ONLY! No other helmets will be permitted. 7. Safety glasses or shield recommended. 8. Mandatory: you must wear long pants and long sleeved shirt. Fire suit recommended. 9. Two fires, you are out unless fuel fire. One fuel fire, you are out. 10. No alcoholic beverages or drugs allowed in the pit area or track. 11. No pit persons allowed on track. This will be strictly enforced. 12. Management does have the right to disqualify a car/driver at any time. Any person on track or causing trouble and not complying with rules will be removed. 13. Protests must be made to head official no later than five minutes after heat in question. No protest will be taken after feature event regarding prior heats. Officials will only reinspect cars being protested. Anything done to car to make it illegal after inspection will be disqualified. 14. If you reinforce anything other than what is stated in these rules, it can be considered illegal and you will not run. Officials decision is FINAL! 15. Drivers door hitting is not allowed. If you hit someone in the driver s door on purpose, derby will be stopped and you will be removed from the track and the fairgrounds. Officials will make determination. 16. Blocking with driver s door is not permitted. You will be warned one time. Second time you will be disqualified from even. DO NOT WAVE ANY HITS OFF. If you wave off, your car should be dead or unable to go on. If you wave off and your car is still running, you will be disqualified from the event. 17. TEAMING UP or TAG TEAMING is not allowed. You will be warned one time. After one warning, you will be disqualified from your heat. 18. TEAMING UP or TAG TEAMING IS ALLOWED in the feature event. 19. Sand bagging will not be tolerated. You must make every attempt to make a competitive hit on other competing cars. We all know what sand bagging is-no EXCUSES! If you are
11 not making competitive hits, you will be put on the clock. You will be given 45 seconds to make a competitive hit. 20. If your car stalls, you will have one minute to re-fire and make a competitive hit. If you are making an effort to be competitive, this rule will be loosely enforced. 21. If you get stuck to another car, we will not separate you unless it is down to the last two cars in the feature event. 22. Track officials will be equipped with radios and spot lights and will be in constant communication with each other. If you are counted out or disqualified, you will have a spotlight shined in your face. We know that you can see it and you will be expected to turn your car off immediately. 23. All boundaries must be observed at all times. All attempts need to be made not to breach the tires at the ends of the track. If you do breach the end on purpose, you will be warned once. Second time, you will be disqualified. *REMINDER: RULES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE AT ANY TIME. ALL DECISIONS ARE FINAL. WE WILL DO OUR BEST TO MAKE THE RULES CLEAR TO EVERYONE. RULES ARE NOT UP FOR DEBATE. THE RULES HAVE BEEN MADE AVAILABLE WELL IN ADVANCE TO THE EVENT DATE. THEREFORE, ANY QUESTIONS SHOULD BE ADDRESSED PRIOR TO THE EVENT BY CONTACTING GREG SHIMMEL (814) OR MIKE WEBER (814) COMPLAINTS ABOUT ANOTHER DRIVERS CAR WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. IF YOU HAVE CONCERNS ABOUT SOMEONE ELSES AR, WE WILL ADDRESS IT THROUGH A PROTEST. PRETOEST MAY ONLY BE MADE BY THE DRIVER, NOT THE TEAM MATES. WE WILL NOT LISTEN TO ANY COMPLAINTS BUT THE DRIVERS. IT WILL BE ONE ON ONE BETWEEN THE DRIVER AND OFFICIAL(S). TEAM MATES WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO TAKE PART IN THE PROTEST PROCESS. THIS WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED. THE PROTEST FEE IS AS FOLLOWS: PROTEST FEE IS $500 AND MUST BE PRESENTED, CASH, AT THE TIME OF THE PROTEST. IF CONTESTED CAR IS FOUND TO BE ILLEGAL, THE PROTEST FEE WILL BE RETURNED TO THE PROTESTOR IN FULL. IF CONTESTED CAR IS FOUND TO BE LEGAL, PROTESTOR WILL FORFEIT ALL MONEY. HALF OF PROTEST MONEY WILL GO TO THE DRIVER OF CONTESTED CAR. OTHER HALF WILL GO TO TDG PRODUCTIONS. PRICE IS NON NEGOTIABLE AND IS SET FOR THE PURPOSE OF DETERRING FRIVILOUS COMPLAINTS.
