When the ale spindle is pulled out, the ale is closed. Can be used as a control ale with ale actuator AVM 105(S), 115(S), 124, 125S or ale actuator with spring return AVF 124, 125S. Use as a distribution ale is only admissible with AVM 124, 125S and AVF 124, 125S. Used as a control ale Used as a distribution ale These control ales are characterised by their reliability and precision and make an important contribution towards enironmentally friendly regulation. They meet difficult challenges such as the quickclosing function, oercoming differential pressures, controlling media temperatures and performing the shut-off function, all with a low noise leel. The ale spindle is automatically and firmly connected to the actuator spindle. The brass plug controls the equal-percentage flow rate in the control passage (exception BUN050F200: flow rate linear). To compensate for the complementary characteristic of the consumer and ensure a constant quantity of medium regardless of the ale position, the mixing passage acts with a linear characteristic. This combination also eliminates the ibration of the plug in the end position while simultaneously preenting premature caitation and erosion. As there is no opposing spring force when closing the ale, the full power of the actuator is aailable for the admissible pressure difference. The tightness of the control passage is ensured by the seat incorporated in the body, and on the plug by the seal made of PTFE reinforced with fibre glass. The stuffing box is maintenance-free. This consists of a brass body, two O-rings, a wiper ring and a grease resere. This is free of silicone grease, and silicone oil may not be used for the spindle. Intended use This product is only suitable for the purpose intended by the manufacturer, as described in the Description of operation section. All related product documents must also be adhered to. Changing or conerting the product is not admissible. Engineering and fitting notes The ales are combined with the ale actuators without a spring return or with ale actuators with a spring return. The actuator is mounted directly on the ale and fastened with either a nut or screws. The actuator is connected with the ale spindle automatically. When the system is commissioned, the actuator moes out and the connector closes automatically when it reaches the lower ale seat. The stroke of the ale is also detected by the actuator, and no further adjustments are required. 4 ensured. With the SUT actuators, the characteristic can be set to linear or quadratic as required. The combination of AVM 105S and DN 50 F200 cannot be set to equal-percentage; use AVM 115S. So that impurities are retained in the water (welding beads, rust particles, etc.) and the spindle seal is not damaged, we recommend installing collecting filters, for example one for each floor or pipe run. Requirements for water quality as per VDI All ales must be used in closed circuits only. An excessiely high oxygen mixture may damage the ale in open circuits. To aoid this, an oxygen binding agent must be used; here the compatibility must be clarified with the manufacturer with regard to corrosion. The material list can be used here. The ales are usually insulated in the systems. Howeer, note that the neck into which the actuator is inserted is not insulated. Additionally, a stuffing box heater absolutely must not be insulated. To preent any disturbing flow noise from being audible in quiet rooms, the pressure difference oer the ale must not exceed 50% of the specified alues. The manual adjuster (accessory) is fitted onto the ale like an actuator. The actuator is automatically connected to the ale spindle when the ale is opened with the knob. Using with water When using water mixed with glycol or an inhibitor, the compatibility of the materials and seals used in the ale should be clarified with the manufacturer. The materials table shown below may be used. When glycol is used, we recommend using a concentration of between 20% and 55%. The ales are not suitable for potentially explosie atmospheres. The materials selected are admissible for drinking water areas. The complete ale is not approed for drinking water. Fitting position The control unit can be fitted in any position, but the hanging position is not recommended. With this parameter, the ale is characterised as a flow element with specific hydraulic behaiour. Monitoring the caitation and erosion along with the associated noise increases the serice life and the operational capacity. p max : Maximum admissible pressure difference oer the ale at which the actuator can reliably open and close the ale. Static pressure and flow effects are considered. This alue ensures trouble-free stroke moement and tightness. The alue p of the ale is neer exceeded. p s : Maximum admissible pressure difference oer the ale in the eent of a malfunction (e.g. power failure, excessie temperature or pressure, pipe break) at which the actuator can close the ale tightly and, if necessary, maintain the entire operating pressure against atmospheric pressure. Because this is a quick-closing function with a rapid stroke moement, p s can be greater than p max or p. The disruptie flow effects that arise here are quickly passed through and are of minor importance in this mode of operation. This essentially corresponds to the idle pressure when the pump is switched off, caused for example by the fluid leel in the system, increased pressure due to pressure tanks, steam pressure, etc. For ales that close with pressure, the static pressure plus the pump pressure are used. Operation Depending on how it is connected (see wiring diagram). the actuator can be used as a continuous V. as a 2-point (open/close) or as a 3-point drie (open/stop/close) with intermediate position. The running time can be matched to requirements using switches S1 and S2 (AVM 105, S1 only). The characteristic (equal-percentage or linear) can be selected with switch S3. The AVM 104/114 is combined with ales that hae a linear basic characteristic such as the VXN and BXN ales. The AVM 105/115 is combined with ales that hae an equal-percentage basic characteristic such as the VUD. BUD. VUE and BUE ales. The AVM 115 can be fitted on a ale with a linear characteristic (e.g. VUE 050F200). but you must pay attention to the position of the coding switches. With the AVM 105. it is not possible to create an equal-percentage characteristic for a ale with a linear characteristic. Manual adjustment is performed by disengaging the gears (sliding switch next to the power cable) and simultaneously turning. using an Allen key in the insert on the upper part of the drie. Eight mm of stroke is attained with 1½ turns. N.B.: After manual adjustment. re-set the sliding switch (engage the gears). Connected as a 2-point actuator Open/close actiation can be effected ia two wires. Power is applied to the drie ia the blue and the brown wires. connecting power to the black wire. the ale s control passage opens. When power is switched off. the drie goes to the opposite end position and closes the ale. The unused red and grey wires should not be connected. nor should they come into contact with other wires. We recommend that you insulate them. Connected as a 3-point control unit By connecting power to the wires (brown or black). the ale can be moed to any position. The coupling rod extends and opens the ale if power is applied to the black wire. It retracts and closes the ale if power is applied to the blue and the brown wires. In the end positions (on hitting a stop in the ale or reaching the maximum stroke) or in the eent of an oerload. the electronic motor cut-off responds (no end switches). The direction of the stroke can be changed by swapping the power-supply wires oer (BN/BK). The unused red and grey wires should not be connected. nor should they come into contact with other wires. We recommend that you insulate them. Connections for control oltage V The integrated positioner controls the drie as a function of the controller s positioning signal y. Direction of operation 1 (mains power on brown wire): the coupling rod extends and opens the ale (control passage) as the positioning signal rises. Direction of operation 2 (mains power on black wire): the coupling rod retracts and closes the ale (control passage) as the positioning signal rises. The starting point and the control span are both permanently set. There is a split-range unit aailable (as an accessory) for setting partial ranges. After manual adjustment or in the eent of a power failure for longer than 5 minutes, the drie readjusts itself automatically, always with a running time of: AVM s AVM s Sauter Components

13 AVM 104S...115S /3 After power has been applied. the stepping motor moes to the lower stop. connects to the ale spindle and moes to the upper stop in the ale. thereby determining the closed position. Depending on the control oltage. any stroke between 0 and 8 mm can then be obtained. Thanks to the electronics unit. no steps can be lost. and the drie needs no periodical re-adjustment. Parallel operation of more than one drie of the same type is guaranteed. The feedback signal y0 = V corresponds to the effectie stroke of 0 to 8 mm. If the control signal (0...10V) is interrupted and direction of operation 1 is connected. the ale closes fully (0% position). The ale s characteristic can be selected using the coding switch. The characteristics can be generated only if the drie is used as a continuous drie. Other switches enable the running times to be set. These can be applied irrespectie of whether the 2-point. 3-point or the continuous function has been chosen. Accessory The starting point U0 and the control span ΔU can be set using the potentiometer. This makes it possible to actiate seeral regulating units in sequence or in cascade using the controller s control signal. The input signal (partial range) is amplified into an output signal of V. This accessory cannot be fitted in the drie. but should be located externally in an electric distribution box. CASE Dries PC Tool, Accessory CASE Dries enables all the actuator's parameters to be set and iewed on site. Connection is ia a serial port on the PC (laptop) and a socket on the actuator. The set comprises: software including installation and operating instruction, fitting instructions, connectors, cable (1,2 metres in length) and an interface conerter for the PC. The application is designed for commissioning and serice technicians and for experienced users. The last setting (i.e. whether with coding switch or CASE Dries) has priority. This setting is actie when the ale's running time or characteristic is changed ia the coding switch. To ensure that the settings with CASE Dries cannot be oerwritten, the coding switch should be remoed before setting alues through CASE Dries (special tool included). Sauter Components

15 AVM 104S...115S /5 Engineering and fitting notes The ingress of condensate. drops of water etc. along the ale spindle and into the drie should be preented. With the electrical connection. you must also make sure that the cross-section of the supply line is adapted to the power and length. In any case. howeer. we recommend that the cross-section should not be less than a minimum of 0,75 mm 2. The assembly of drie and ale is done by fitting and tightening the cap nut without further adjustment; no tools should be used. The ale spindle and the drie spindle are coupled together automatically. either by using the manual adjustment facility or by applying power. When dismantling. first release the drie/ale spindle. then loosen the cap nut. The drie is supplied ex works in the middle position. The combination of stepping motor and electronics allows seeral actuators of the same SUT type to be run in parallel. The following accessories can be fitted to each actuator: one set of auxiliary contacts. The coding switches are accessible ia an opening with black lid in the housing coer. The auxiliary contacts should be screwed onto the drie s top coer. Before the mechanical connection can be established. the indicator knob should be remoed. A new indicator is then isible on the lid of the auxiliary contacts. N.B.: The housing should not be opened. Fitting outdoors. If the deices are fitted outdoors. we recommend that additional measures be taken to protect them against the effects of the weather. Additional technical data The upper part of the housing. with the lid. indicator knob and the cap. contains the stepping motor and the SUT electronic control unit. The lower part contains the maintenance-free gears.
