3 Important information The retrofit kit is for use within the BMW dealership organisation only. Do not kink or damage the cables during the installation work since otherwise they may cause faults that can later only be identified by extensive additional work. The costs incurred as a result of this will not be reimbursed by BMW. If the specified PIN chambers are already occupied, bridges, double crimps or twin-lead terminals must be used. Target group The target group for these installation instructions is specialist personnel trained on BMW cars with specialist knowledge of vehicle electrical systems. Work: All servicing, repair and installation work on BMW cars is completed at your own risk. All work is to be carried out using current BMW - Repair manuals - Circuit diagrams in a rational order using the prescribed tools (special tools) and observing current health and safety regulations.! Do not use so-called "Scotchlock connectors" in any circumstances since they can cause faults in the car s electrical system. Observe the tightening torque values for screw connections. The required tightening torque values are given in the part information system (TIS). Coding instructions On cars after model year / the towing hitch retrofit kit must be coded (see also section entitled Coding). 9 4. To install the wiring harness n! D not kink the air lines. Remove the screws () and swing the air supply system () to the side. F 5 9 W Remove the screws () take out the cover (). F 5 4 W Remove the screws () take out the screw (). Pull the retaining plate () upwards. 10 4. To install the wiring harness Lay branches H and J along the standard wiring harness towards terminal post X986. Connect branch J (), brown cable to the joint connector X498. X Z Remove cover ( and ). F5 4 W Cars up to / only 5 Connect branch H (), red cable using a collar nut () to terminal post X986 (), fuse slot F5 (item 5). Insert a 5 A fuse (4) with collar nuts (5). 4 F 5 4 W Cars after / only 4 Connect branch H (), red cable using a collar nut () to terminal post X986 (), fuse slot F (item ). 11 4. To install the wiring harness Lay the wiring harness along the standard wiring harness to the right. Connect branch E (), brown cable to the joint connector X494. X Z X9 Lay branches M and M along the rear closing plate to left tail light. Release plug X9. Disconnect the connections from PIN, grey/ violet cable, and PIN 4, blue/green cable, on plug X9, insulate them and tie them back on the wiring harness. Connect branch M, grey/violet cable, to plug X9 in PIN. Connect branch M, blue/green cable, to plug X9 in PIN Z X8 Lay branches G, G and G () to the right tail light. Release plug X8. Disconnect the connections from PIN, black/ blue cable, PIN, blue/brown cable, and PIN 4, grey/white cable, on plug X8, insulate them and tie them back on the wiring harness. 5 9 Z Connect branchg, black/blue cable, to plug X8 in PIN. Connect branchg, blue/brown cable, to plug X8 in PIN. Connect branchg, grey/white cable, to plug X8 in PIN 4. Remove the screws () and swing the fuse box () to the side. 12 4. To install the wiring harness Lay branch F (), red/blue cable, to the fuse box. Take out fuse holder () and push out the interlock (). Connect branch F (), red/blue cable, to fuse slot F78. Insert the A fuse (4) into slot F78. 4 F 5 7 W 4 Lay branches B, C and D along the right sill skirt to the front to light module A (4). Disconnect and release the plugs (, and ). Disconnect the connections from PIN, blue/ brown cable, and PIN 4, black/blue cable, on plug X8, insulate them and tie them back on the wiring harness. Connect branch B, blue/brown cable, to PIN and branch B, black/blue cable, to PIN 4. F 5 4 W Disconnect the connections from PIN, grey/ violet cable, and PIN 8, blue/green cable, on the black 5-pin plug X, insulate them and tie them back. Connect branch C, grey/violet cable, to PIN and branch C, blue/green cable, to PIN 8. Disconnect the connection from PIN 7, grey/ white cable, on the black 54-pin plug X7, insulate it and tie it back. Connect branch D, grey/white cable, to PIN 7 and branch D, blue/ brown/yellow cable, to PIN 5. Retrofit / Installation kit No (others see cover sheet) Installation Instructions No Issue date:. EN/

Coding / Concluding work - Secure all plug connections again. - Assemble the car following the instructions to dismantle it in reverse order. - Conduct a brief test Vehicles up to / No coding is required. Vehicles after / The towing hitch retrofit kit must be coded using the retrofit path. During the coding process a sticker stating that the trailer stabilisation control coding has been completed must be printed out.
