1 Introduction: Wiring diagrams are now structured in a new format, which allows for better identification of components and connections/plugs. Control unit Connectors: Each of these connectors identify the plug number at that control unit, the number of pins within that plug and the pin cavity the cable is in. Eg: III -15/3 As the plug is already at a control unit the control unit is not identified. General Connectors: Most connectors start with the letter X. They are now given a vehicle location and an identification number at that location. Eg: X0501 or X0501/7 Table one on page 4 lists a description for each location number. Ground Points: Like the General connectors above each ground point is given a location and a number at that location. Table one on page 4 lists a description for each location number. Pin cavity cable is in (where applicable) Plug number in that location Location of plug (Eg Engine compartment) See table 1. Denotes a Connector. 2 Component Identification: Each component is given an identification which details the type of component, and the electrical index group the component is in. Eg: 33F02. Table two on page 4 lists a description for each location number. Hint! When looking for a component on the wiring legend list, components are listed according to their index number first then alphabetically. Eg: 15S01 is listed before 33F F 02 ID number (eg: Fuse 2). Denotes Component Type (Eg: Fuse). See table 2 Index Group this component belongs to (Eg: Wiper/Washer). See table 3. Index Group: Each section of the vehicles electrical system is now assigned a unique number. Eg: Wipers is index number 33. Outside lights is index number 30. The main purpose of this is to allow components on the diagram easier to link with a system. Eg: 33F02 is a fuse that belongs to the wiper system. Table 3 on pages 5-7 detail the index group. Cable Identification: Each wire is identified by one of three means: a. 4 digit number (eg: 2077). Cables identified by this means are usually white in color and of a 1mm thickness. The the majority cables are marked this way. b. Wire size wire color with a 4 digit number (eg: 2.5rt 2804). Cables identified this way are usually larger than 1mm and vary in color. They are often power feed wires. For more information see right. c. Color coding (eg: bl/rt). Cables identified by this manner are usually for sensors. The first abbreviation identifies the main color and if applicable the second abbreviation identifies the stripe. 3 Cable Number Grouping: On the electrical index chart (table 3) in the RHS column various index groups are assigned a range of cable numbers. The purpose of this is to assist with cable identification. Eg: Cables in the range from belong to index group which is suspension and brakes. Twisted Cables. Where two or more cables are twisted together they are identified on a drawing by the symbol. Cables are usually twisted as a form of electrical shielding thus reducing the amount of electrical interference allowed into the cables. Reading Diagrams on multiple pages. Some cables start on one diagram and finish on another. Where this occurs the cable ends with an arrow and then the component the cable goes to is listed. Eg: On diagram 1, cable 1099 goes to component 30E07. To find the diagram where the cable goes, is to first locate the component on the other diagrams. This is done by looking at the legend of each diagram then the component. Eg: On diagram 2, is component 30E07. Then identify the same cable number on both diagrams. Eg: Cable Once this is done both parts of the circuit across two diagrams have been found. Hints: The component index number should provide a hint on what diagram the component is on. Eg: 30E07 is on the outside lights diagram. Some cables end with a circle instead of an arrow. This means a connector is often the link between two diagram, not a component.
