1 2001 Honda EX IGNITION CHECKS Ignition Coil Test ( 2.3L & CR-V) 1. Turn ignition off. Remove distributor cap, rotor and leak cover. Remove primary leads from ignition coil. Using an ohmmeter, check primary resistance between ignition coil terminals "A+" and "B-". See Fig. 12. Resistance should be as specified. See IGNITION COIL RESISTANCE table. 2. Check secondary resistance between ignition coil terminal "A+" and secondary output terminal (ignition coil tower). See IGNITION COIL RESISTANCE table. If readings are not as specified, replace ignition coil.

Remove distributor cap, rotor and leak cover. Disconnect wires from ICM. See Fig. 14 or Fig. 15. Turn ignition on. Check for voltage between body ground and ICM Black/Yellow wire. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, check for open in Black/Yellow wire between ignition switch and ICM. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
3 2001 Honda EX 2. Ensure ignition is on. Check for voltage between body ground and ICM White/Black wire (White/Blue wire on F23A5 engine). See Fig. 14 or Fig. 15. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, check ignition coil operation. See IGNITION COIL TEST (ACCORD 2.3L & CR-V). Replace ignition coil as necessary. If ignition coil is okay, check for open in White/Black wire (White/Blue wire on F23A5 engine) between ICM and ignition coil. 3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM connector "B" (25-pin connector). Check continuity of Yellow/Green wire between PCM connector "B" (25-pin connector) terminal No. 13 and ICM. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Yellow/Green wire. 4. Check continuity between body ground and Yellow/Green wire. If continuity exists, check for short to ground in Yellow/Green wire. If continuity does not exist, wiring is okay at this time. Turn ignition off, and reconnect PCM connector "B" (25-pin connector). Replace ICM. 5 2001 Honda EX 2001 ENGINE PERFORMANCE' 'System & Component Testing 1. Place transmission in Neutral or Park position (A/T) or depress clutch pedal (M/T). Turn ignition switch to START position. Backprobing, measure voltage between PCM connector "A" (32-pin connector) terminal No. 24 (Blue/Orange wire) and PCM connector "B" (25-pin connector) terminal No. 20 (Brown/Black wire). See Fig. 36 and Fig. 56. If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step. If battery voltage exists, problem is intermittent. Starter switch signal is okay at this time. 2. Inspect No. 13 (7.5-amp) fuse in driver's underdash fuse/relay box located behind left kick panel. See STARTER SIGNAL FUSE IDENTIFICATION table. If fuse is okay, repair open in Blue/Orange wire between driver's underdash fuse/relay box and PCM connectors. If fuse is not okay, repair short in Blue/Orange wire between driver's underdash fuse/relay box, PCM and PGM-FI main relay connectors. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Replace fuse.
