3 1 Safety Warnings IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS This manual contains important instructions that you should follow during installation and maintenance of the UPS and batteries. Please read all instructions before operating the equipment and save this manual for future reference. DANGER THE TRANSFORMER CONTAINS LETHAL VOLTAGES. ONLY AUTHORIZED SERVICE PERSONNEL SHOULD PERFORM ALL REPAIRS AND SERVICE. THERE ARE NO USER SERVICEABLE PARTS INSIDE THE TRANSFORMER. WARNING The transformer output may carry live voltage even when the transformer is not connected to an AC supply. To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, install the transformer a temperature and humidity controlled, indoor environment, free of conductive contaminants. Ambient temperature must not exceed 40 C (104 F). Do not operate near water or excessive humidity (95% maximum). To reduce the risk of fire, connect only to a circuit provided with branch circuit overcurrent protection in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC), ANSI/NFPA 70. Output overcurrent protection and disconnect switch must be provided by others. If the transformer requires any type of transportation, verify that the transformer is disconnect the UPS. WARNING Batteries can present a risk of electrical shock or burn from high short-circuit current. Observe proper precautions. Only qualified service personnel with knowledge of batteries and the required precautions should perform servicing. Keep unauthorized personnel away from batteries. Proper disposal of batteries is required. Refer to your local codes for disposal requirements. Never dispose of batteries in a fire. Batteries may explode when exposed to flame. WARNING To reduce the risk of electrical shock and possible damage to the connected equipment due to the risk of AC current leakage, ensure that the transformer is properly grounded

4 CAUTION To reduce the risk of damage to the connected equipment the AC input of the Step Down Transformers must be the same as the UPS's output voltage setting. Transformers must only be connected and operated with their respective UPS models and the load capacity derated as listed in the table below. 5 2 Transformer Module Overview RT 06XFR-EA 1. The Load 4 circuit breaker will trip in the event the load exceeds the power rating. 2. Load 4: 120V output receptacles (3-5-15/20R). 3. The Load 3 circuit breaker will trip in the event the load exceeds the power rating. 4. Load 3: 120V output receptacles (3-5-15/20R) 5. The Load 2 circuit breaker will trip in the event the load exceeds the power rating. 6. Load 2: 208V output receptacle (1 - L6-20R). NOTE: The default output voltage is 208V. (Optional 240V is available, but must be configured at the factory.) 7. The Load 1 circuit breaker will trip in the event the load exceeds the power rating. 8. Load 1: 208V output receptacle (1 - L6-30R). 9. The input circuit breaker will trip in the event the load exceeds the RT-XFR's power rating. 10. The input power cord is for connecting to the output terminal block on the UPS. 11. RT-XFR's circuit breaker will trip in the event that the RT-XFR becomes overheated. 12. Input voltage selection switch (208 / 240V). The default setting is 208V

The Load 1 circuit breaker will trip in the event the load exceeds the power rating. 8. Load 1: 208V output receptacle (1 - L6-30R). 9. The input circuit breaker will trip in the event the load exceeds the RT-XFR's power rating. 10. RT-XFR's circuit breaker will trip in the event that the RT-XFR becomes overheated. 11. Input terminal block (208V / 240V) is for connecting the input power cable that comes from the output terminal block of the UPS. 12. Output terminal block for optional hardwiring the load. The available output voltages are 120V / 208V / 240V. NOTE: The two 120V outputs are individual 5KVA outputs and they CANNOT be paralleled

7 3 Installation Be sure to read the installation placement and all the cautions before installing the RT-XFR. Place the unit in the final desired location and complete the rest of the installation procedure. 3.1 Inspecting the Transformer If any of the equipment received has been damaged during shipment, keep the shipping cartons and packing materials in case a return is required and file a claim for shipping damage. If you discover damage after acceptance, file a claim for concealed damage. To file a claim for shipping damage or concealed damage: 1) File with the carrier within 15 days of receipt of the equipment; 2) Send a copy of the damage claim within 15 days to your service representative. 3.2 Unpacking the Transformer Cabinet CAUTION Unpacking the Transformer cabinet in a low-temperature environment may cause condensation to occur in and on the cabinet. Do not install the cabinet until the inside and outside of the cabinet are absolutely dry (hazard of electric shock). The cabinet is heavy. Be careful unpacking and moving the cabinet. To unpack the cabinet and accessories: 1. Open the outer carton and remove the accessories packaged with the cabinet. 2. Carefully lift the cabinet out of the outer carton. 3. Discard or recycle the packaging in a responsible manner. Place the cabinet in a protected area that has adequate airflow and is free of humidity, flammable gas, and corrosion. 3.3 Installation Notes Place the Transformer with the UPS in an indoor, clean and stable environment, avoiding vibration, dust, humidity, flammable gas and liquid, corrosive objects. Avoid direct sunlight. To avoid high room temperature, an extraction fan is recommended to be installed. Optional air filters are available if the UPS operates in a dusty environment. The environment temperature around the Transformer and UPS should be keptin a range of 0 ~40. If the environment temperature exceeds 40, the rated load capacity should be reduced by 12% per 5. The max temperature must not be higher than 50. If the Transformer is dismantled under low temperature, it might be in a condensing condition. The Transformer and UPS can't be installed unless the internal and external of the equipment is fully dry. Otherwise, there will be in danger of electric shock

8 Route power cords so they cannot be walked on or damaged. The AC inputs of the Step Down Transformers must ONLY be connected to the output of their respective UPS models. The RT Series Transformer is not intended for use in a computer room as defined in the Standard for the Protection of Electronic Computer/Data Processing Equipment ANSI/NFPA 75. Batteries should be mounted in an environment where the temperature is within the required specs. Temperature is a major factor in determining battery life and capacity. In a normal installation, the battery temperature is maintained between 15 C and 25 C. Keep batteries away from heat sources or main air ventilation area, etc. Should the equipment not be installed immediately it must be stored so as to protect it against excessive humidity and or heat sources. CAUTION The external vents and openings on the unit are provided for ventilation to ensure reliable operation of the unit and to protect the unit from over-heating, Vents and openings must not be blocked or covered. Do not insert any objects into the vents or openings that may hinder the ventilation. Install the unit in a well ventilated area, away from excess moisture, heat, dust, flammable gas or explosives. Leave adequate space (at least 15cm) around all sides of the unit for proper ventilation. Do not mount the unit with its front or rear panel facing down at any angle. Before usage, allow the unit to adjust to room temperature (20 C~25 C or 68 F~77 F) for at least one hour to avoid moisture condensing inside the unit. 3.4 Rackmount Installation Use the following placement when rack mounting: The RT-XFR should be installed close to the bottom of the rack. Then install the Battery Pack right above the RT-XFR. Then install the UPS right above the Battery Pack. CAUTION The RT-XFR, UPS and Battery Pack are extremely heavy. Do not use the mounting brackets to lift the step down transformer. The mounting brackets are for securing the unit to the rack

9 Use the included rackmount brackets and screws to mount the RT-XFR in a rack by following the steps below. 1. Attach the rackmount brackets to the mounting holes on the side panel of the RT-XFR as shown below. 2. Install the RT-XFR into the Rail kit. See the figure below. 3.5 Tower Installation The tower configuration allows the user to install the RT-XFR in the up-right position. Tower stands are provided with the UPS. The tower stand extenders are provided with the RT-XFR

10 3.6 Connecting The Step Down Transformer To The Ups 3. Before connecting to the input / output transformer terminals read all of the Cautions and Warnings and observe the following: a) Ensure that the UPS is turned off and not connected to the AC source or the battery source before any connections are made. b) Calculate the power consumption of the load to ensure that an overload condition does not occur. c) Ensure that the terminal block screws are secured after connecting the input / output wires. The terminal block screws should be torque to 18±2Kgf.cm (requires a 3/16" flat-head screwdriver). d) Ensure that the RT-XFR and the UPS are properly grounded. 2. The input power for the RT-XFR must be single-phase in accordance with its rating label and the specifications in this manual. The RT-XFR's input voltage setting must be the same as the UPS's output voltage setting. RT 06XFR-EA - 9 -

NOTE: The AC inputs of these Step Down Transformers are ONLY intended to be connected to the output of their respective UPS models. NOTE: The RT-XFR's input voltage setting must be the same as the UPS's output voltage setting Input / Output Cable Connections RT 06XFR-EA See the UPS users manual for UPS input and output connections. 1. Remove the terminal block cover plate from the rear panel of the RT-XFR 2. Connect the attached #10 AWG input power cord on the RT-XFR to the output terminal block on the UPS. 3. Set the input voltage select switch on the rear panel of the RT-XFR to the appropriate voltage (208V / 240V). 4. Plug the equipment into the output receptacles on the rear panel of the RT-XFR. NOTE: The default setting is 208V. The RT-XFR's input voltage setting must be the same as the UPS's output voltage setting

12 3.6.3 Input / Output Cable Connections RT 10XFR-EA See the UPS users manual for UPS input and output connections. 1. Connect the end of the #8 AWG input power cable labeled "TO XFR" to the appropriate terminals on the AC input terminal block on the RT-XFR and secure. The pins for the input cable are included. a) Connect the black wire labeled L1 / L2 on the input power cable to the RT-XFR AC input terminal block labeled L1 for 240V or L2 for 208V and secure. b) Connect the white wire labeled L3 on the input power cable to the RT-XFR AC input terminal block labeled L3 and secure. c) Connect the green wire labeled G on the input power cable to the RT-XFR AC input terminal block ground terminal and secure. NOTE: The RT-XFR's input voltage setting must be the same as the UPS's output voltage setting. 2. Connect the other end of the #8 AWG input power cable labeled "TO UPS" to the output terminal block on the UPS and secure. a) Connect the black wire labeled L on the input power cable to the UPS out- put terminal block labeled L and secure. b) Connect the white wire labeled N on the input power cable to the UPS out- put terminal block labeled N and secure. c) Connect the green wire labeled G on the input power cable to the UPS out- put terminal block ground terminal and secure. 3. Re-install the terminal block cover plate on the RT-XFR. 3. Before re-installing the terminal block cover box on the UPS, see the UPS users manual for the UPS input and output connections. 5. Plug the equipment into the output receptacles on the rear panel of the RT-XFR. The RT 10XFR- EAh as a terminal block for hardwiring the output. Refer to the figure below for the input / output connections. The pins for the output cable are included. NOTE: The two 120V outputs are individual 5KVA outputs and CANNOT be paralleled. Input / Output terminal block for the RT 10XFR-EA 120V outputs: La - N: 50A max, Lb - N: 50A max, the combined total for both: 83.4A max 208V output: Lc - Ld: 48.1A max 240V output: La - Lb: 41.7A max NOTE: Default voltages for the output receptacles are 120V and 208V. 240V is available, but only as a hardwire option at the output terminal block

13 4 Operation 4.1 Start-Up In Normal AC Mode The UPS must be connected to utility power and there must be an acceptable AC voltage present. The Battery Pack(s) must be connected to the UPS and the DC breaker(s) on the rear panel of the Battery Pack(s) must be in the on position. The input of the RT-XFR must be connected to the output of the UPS. The equipment is plugged into the output receptacles on the RT-XFR. 1. Turn on the input breaker on the rear panel of the UPS. The fans will turn on, the bps LED will turn on. The UPS is now in the Bypass mode. NOTE: If there is a power interruption while UPS is in Bypass mode the load will not be backed up. 2. Turn on all of the Load breakers on the rear panel of the RT-XFR. 3. Turn on the connected equipment one at a time. 4. Press and release the On Button after the first beep to turn the UPS on. 5. The UPS will start-up and perform a self-diagnosis for approximately 3- seconds. The UPS system is ready for normal opeartion. See the UPS user's manual for more information. 4.2 Start-Up In Battery Mode The Battery Pack(s) must be connected to the UPS and the DC breaker(s) on the rear panel of the Battery Pack(s) must be in the on position. The input of the RT-XFR must be connected to the output of the UPS. The equipment must be plugged into the output receptacles on the RT-XFR. 1. Turn on the input breaker on the rear panel of the UPS. 2. Press and release the On/ Button after the first beep to turn the UPS on. 3. The fans will turn on, then the UPS will start-up and perform a self-diagnosis for approximately 3- seconds. 4. Turn on all of the Load breakers on the rear panel of the RT-XFR. 5. Turn on the connected equipment one at a time. See the UPS user's manual for more information. 4.3 Turning Off The Step Down Transformer In Normal AC Mode 1. Press and release the Off Button on the front panel of the UPS after the first beep to transfer the UPS to the Bypass mode. 2. Turn off all of the connected equipment. 3. Turn off all of the Load breakers on the rear panel of the RT-XFR. 4. Turn off the input breaker on the rear panel of the UPS. 5. Turn off the DC breaker(s) on the rear panel of the Battery Pack(s). 4.4 Turning Off The Step Down Transformer In Battery Mode 1. Turn off all of the connected equipment. 2. Turn off all of the Load breakers on the rear panel of the RT-XFR. 3. Press and release the Off Button after the first beep to turn the UPS off. 4. Turn off the input breaker on the rear panel of the UPS. 5. Turn off the DC breaker(s) on the rear panel of the Battery Pack(s)
