Submit manufacturer's specifications, installation instructions, and catalog data including operating and maintenance manuals complete with replacement parts data before starting work QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Regulatory Requirements: Control system components where applicable standards have been established, shall be listed by UL, NEC, and USITT. B. Qualifications: 1. Single Service: Equipment furnished shall be the sole responsibility of a single manufacturer who shall fabricate assemblies and major subassemblies in manufacturer's own shops. 2. Manufacturing Experience: Manufacturer shall have been Project No. SPECIFICATION GUIDELINES

2 consecutively producing theatrical lighting and Silicone Controlled Rectifier (SCR) control equipment for a minimum of 15 years. 3. Include services of a factory authorized field service technician who shall check system and determine its proper installation before equipment energization. PART 2 PRODUCTS 2.01 MANUFACTURERS A. Dimmer Cabinet Assemblies: 1. Sensor by Electronic Theatre Controls, Middleton, WI. 2. I-Series by Colortran, Inc., Burbank, CA. 3. CD80 Supervisor by Strand Lighting Inc., Elmwood Park, NJ. B. Lighting Control Consoles: 1. Acclaim 124 by Electronic Theatre Controls, Middleton, WI. 2. Status 24/48 by Colortran, Inc., Burbank, CA. 3. Mantrix LX24 by Strand Lighting Inc., Elmwood Park, NJ EQUIPMENT A. Dimmer Cabinet Assembly: 1. A wall mount factory assembly of dimmer racks constructed of 3/16" (5mm) steel angle top and bottom frames, 14 gage roll formed posts, and 1/8" aluminum backpanel. 2. Removable Cover Panels: Provide for each end of dimmer bank. 3. Dimmer Racks: Include removable dimmer trays, fan module, top and bottom vent grills, electrostatic filter, and a hinged latching front door. 4. Design rack components for easy removal and installation to allow dimmer bank to be completely open and empty during the wiring operations. 5. Dimmer Modules: a. Each dimmer rack shall have provisions for plug-in dimmer modules each containing either two 2.4 kw dimmers or one 6.0 kw dimmer. 1) Provide 12 dimmer modules. b. Provide guides on dimmer trays for easy insertion Project No. SPECIFICATION GUIDELINES

3 and withdrawal of dimmer modules. c. Provide a tapered housing on rack and dimmer module connectors to assure positive alignment of the module and to protect connector pins from insertion damage. d. Factory wire power and signal connections, neatly dressed. 1) Provide adequate space for wiring required to be installed along side factory wiring. e. Provide a tubular screw termination point for each load and neutral wire. f. Provide terminals for twisted pair multiplexed signal wires, overtemp wires, and auxiliary wires as required. 1) Changes in wiring from Contract Documents requiring additional costs shall be performed at no additional cost to the Board. 2) Provide a hot and neutral wire for each load. Terminate circuits in dimmer cabinet. g. Clearly marked terminals, connectors, and wiring shall be accessible from the front or rear of the rack. 6. Dimmer Bank Size: Maximum 26" high x 14" deep x 15" wide. 7. Entire dimmer bank assembly shall be UL listed and labeled. 8. Control Electronics: Locate control electronics containing digital circuitry, wiring circuitry, and a power supply located in dimmer rack in an easily removable module. a. Allow no commonality of circuitry between cards. b. Each card shall contain separate and independent dimmer drive circuits. 9. Fans: a. Mount a minimum of one 10-inch low noise fans in rack to maintain temperature of components at proper operating levels with all dimmers under full load, provided ambient room temperature does not exceed 40 degrees C. b. Automatic Fan Shut-Off: Activated when control console is turned off. c. Automatic Thermal Shut-Off: Provide an automatic Project No. SPECIFICATION GUIDELINES

4 thermal shut-off of dimmers in the rack should the safe operating temperature of the rack be exceeded. d. Indicator Pilot Lights: Provide for each phase. 10. Finish: Baked enamel. B. Dimmer Modules: 1. Dimmer Modules: Heavy duty construction, plug-in, factory wired units designed to slide into dimmer bank. a. Fully enclose electronic components by a 1/8" (3mm) thick formed aluminum chassis. b. Power and Signal Pins: Oversized and recessed in a self-aligning compressed phenolic housing to prevent handling and insertion damage with a contoured handle for ease of insertion and withdrawal. c. Finish: Baked enamel. d. Dimmer Modules: UL listed devices. e. Dimmer modules containing plastic materials, except power cube and magnetic breakers, are not allowed. 2. Dimmer Control Electronics. a. Dimmer control electronics shall be contained in 1 Control Electronics Module (CEM) plug-in module per dimmer rack. Dimmer control electronics shall be completely digital without employing any digital to analog demultiplexing schemes or analog ramping circuits. b. The dimmer control electronics shall respond to control changes in less than 25 milliseconds. Dimmer outputs shall exhibit no oscillating or hunting for levels. Dimmers set to the same level shall output within + 1V of each other, regardless of phase or electronic module control. c. Dimmer output shall be regulated for incoming line voltages. The regulation shall adjust for both RMS voltage changes and deformations in the incoming AC wave form. The CEM shall monitor and adjust each dimmer's output to maintain a constant power to the load. Regulation shall maintain the desired output voltage + 1 volt for the entire operation range (90-140V AC), with the exception that the maximum output will be not greater than the line voltage. The regulation shall compensate for dips and glitches in the AC wave form on a dimmer-per-dimmer basis. There shall be no interaction between dimmers in the system or any other equipment. The Project No. SPECIFICATION GUIDELINES

5 output shall be regulated for 12OV, but shall be field adjustable on a dimmer-by-dimmer basis. The entire response to incoming line changes shall take not more than 25 milliseconds. Dimming systems that do not respond to line fluctuations and do not contain glitch detection are not acceptable. d. The control electronics shall contain diagnostic routines to test dimmer outputs. Each rack, in the event of signal loss, shall maintain the last level for a user programmable time of zero to 5 minutes or indefinitely. Systems that do not offer this feature are be acceptable. e. The control electronics shall contain a test/bypass switch to turn on all dimmers to full for testing. This switch shall bypass all processor electronics and shall force the fan on. f. The control electronics shall contain 32 backup cues (16 for systems exceeding 2000 dimmers). These cues shall be programmable by recording current dimmer levels as set by the console. When a backup cue is active, the DMX512 links shall be ignored. The backup looks can be activated by the CEM keypad or other peripheral control devices. Systems that do not offer this feature are not acceptable. g. Information for all configuration and backup cues shall be stored in all control modules to allow swapping of any control modules throughout the system. Systems not storing all configuration data and backup cues for each dimmer in each control modules are not acceptable. h. Two optical isolated DMX512 dimmer links may be received allowing overlapping or separation of any control level. Each dimmer's output may be adjusted to compensate for cable voltage loss. Dimmer types and sizes may be mixed throughout the rack. Each dimmer may be configured for normal, switched, or multiplexed firing mode. Each dimmer may be programmed to activate upon activation of the system panic. i. Each rack shall provide a 2,500V optical isolation between control input and output. The function of this unit is to protect the control electronics and console from other DMX512 systems and possible dimmer failure. Systems that do not have optoisolation on a prewired factory plug-in device are not acceptable. j. Each control module shall contain one printed circuit board with no discreet wire connections, housed in a formed steel body with no extruding control pins. The control module shall have 3 phase Project No. SPECIFICATION GUIDELINES

6 status LED indicators. A 25 key keypad and a 10 line by 20 character backlit LCD display shall be provided for system configuration, testing, and diagnostics. The following keys shall be provided: ten numeric keys, Reset, Dimmer, Setup, About, Backup, At, Next, A/B, Clear, Thru, Enter, and Exit. k. CEM shall allow setting of single dimmers or groups of dimmers from integral keypad. Backup looks can be accessed from integral keypad and shall not require external hand held unit. Integral LCD shall display rack status or error messages. Rack shall contain status indicator to inform operator of error or over temperature conditions. The CEM shall provide load, voltage, and temperature information to control console or laptop personal computer via the ETCLink (registered trademark) network. Selectable dimmer output curves may be programmed via laptop configuration system. All parameters may be programmed in the field via laptop personal computer. Systems requiring factory programming are not acceptable. 3. SCR Assembly: a. Each dimmer module shall use solid state module consisting of 2 silicon controlled rectifiers (SCR's) in an inverse parallel configuration and all required gating circuitry on the high voltage side of the integral optocoupled control voltage isolator. b. Rectifiers, copper leads, and a ceramic substrate shall be reflow soldered to an integral heat sink for maximum heat dissipation. c. The SCR shall also contain a control LED, a thermistor for temperature sensing, and silverplated control and load contacts. d. An advanced version of the SCR shall be available that includes an integral load LED and output voltage and current sensors for feedback to the control module. e. The entire SCR shall be sealed in a plastic housing requiring only a screwdriver to replace. f. The dimmers employing triac power devices, pulse transformers, or other isolating devices not providing at least 2,500V RMS isolation, are not acceptable. g. Dimmer module requiring disassembly, heat sink grease, or additional tools for repair are not acceptable. Project No. SPECIFICATION GUIDELINES

7 h. All electronic components (current/voltage sensors and indicators shall be contained in a single, field-replaceable housing. Modules requiring discreet wiring of electronic components are not acceptable. 4. Dimmer Module: a. Provide dimmer modules with integral inductive toroidal filters mounted within the plug-in dimmer chassis designed to reduce rate of current rise resulting from SCR switching to accomplish the following: 1) Limit objectionable harmonics. 2) Reduce acoustical noise in dimmer load that would create noise in lamp filaments in output circuit. 3) Limit conducted radio frequency interference on AC line and on load wires. 4) Isolate dimmer from AC lines to prevent interaction with other dimmers. b. Dimmers with E-1 or EE filters are not allowed. 5. Dimmer Protection: a. Protect each dimmer with a fully magnetic circuit breaker of 20 amps for 2.4 kw dimmers or 50 amps for 6.0 kw dimmers, for capacity mounted on the face plate of dimmer. b. Breaker shall be used as a dimmer disconnect and shall be UL listed. c. Under overload conditions breaker shall disconnect power to dimmer module before damage can be done to the power devices. d. Current limiting feedback techniques for protecting a main power device are not allowed. e. Dimmers allowing continued operation with load substantially more than the rated capacity are not allowed. f. Protective devices shall have a maximum interrupt rating of 125 percent of rated capacity. 6. Rise Time: Not be less than 500 microseconds measured at 90 degrees conductive angle from 10 to 90 percent of output wave form with dimmer operating at a maximum load. 7. Dimmer Operating Temperature: Project No. SPECIFICATION GUIDELINES

8 a. Dimmer module to operate on 100 to 140 VAC line at 50 to 60 Hz. b. Provide heat sink for components to remain at a safe operating temperature with dimmer properly installed in dimmer cabinet. 8. Hot Patching: Dimmer module shall be capable of hot patching cold incandescent loads up to its full rated capacity without malfunction with the control signal at full on. 9. Output Root-Means-Square (RMS) Voltage: a. Each dimmer in conjunction with the circuitry in dimmer bank shall maintain output RMS voltage within plus or minus 2 percent with changes in AC line from 90 to 140 volts RMS. b. Difference between output voltage and input voltage shall be 6 volts maximum. c. Maintain output RMS voltage within plus or minus 2 percent with changes in load from 10 watts to full rated load at any point on dimmer curve. 10. Switch-On Versus Switch-Off Response Time: With 0.1 seconds for all loads. 11. Output RMS Voltage Versus Control Position: a. Follow the square law dimming curve. b. Dimmer curve shall be stable without the need for curve adjustment. 12. Input Control: Multiplexed, USITT DMX-512 fully digital control. 13. Power Efficiency: a. Minimum of 95 percent at full load. b. Power consumption of the control circuitry housed in the dimmer bank shall not exceed 0.1 watts per dimmer. 14. Interchangeability: a. Dimmers of the same capacity shall be interchangeable. b. Polarize connectors and receptacles of modules of different capacity so that modules of different capacity cannot be interchanged. C. Dimmer Schedule: 1. Provide 1 dimmer cabinet, consisting of 1 modular rack, Project No. SPECIFICATION GUIDELINES

9 containing 24 wired spaces for 20 amp load circuits. Provide 12 dual 2.4 kw plug-in dimmer modules. 2. Provide the following schedule of spare parts: a. 1 complete 2.4 kw dimmer module. b. 1 control electronics module. c. 1 package of miscellaneous hardware. D. Lighting Control Console: 1. A 24 channel, 2 scene preset system with, but not limited to, the following: a. Complete 2 scene preset system with dipless split handle crossfader. b. Grand master. c. Blackout switch. d. Light submasters. e. Integral power supply and battery backup. f. Battery. g. Accessories. 2. Finish control surfaces clearly labeled and identified. 3. Provide AC power cable and a 25-foot control cable. 4. The lighting control console shall consist of, but not limited to, the following elements and controls: a. Crossfader: 1) Provide 1 hand dipless crossfader operation between presets. Dual handles may be split for lead/lag fades or pile-ons. 2) Provide crossfader operation in automatic mode with fade times varying from 1 second to 4 minutes. 3) It shall be possible any time to take control manually of a timed fade. 4) Provide a fade progress indicator (LED array) able to track the progress of the crossfader matching the length of travel of the crossfaders that shall not be less than 3-7/8" (98.5mm). b. Grand Master: 1) Provide proportional mastering of lighting levels originating from the submaster and crossfader. 2) Length of travel shall be identical to the crossfader. 10 c. Blackout Switch: Provide 2 position momentary contact switch for an instantaneous blackout of stage lights. d. Submasters: Provide 8 linear submasters with grouping capability. 1) Submasters shall allow for any number of channels and their associated levels to be assigned to any 1 of the submasters by means of a rear illuminated assignment push-button. 2) Submasters shall provide proportional control over their assigned channels and their levels, and may be operated independently or in a pileon mode to the crossfader. e. Integral Power Supply and Battery Backup: Provide integral power supply and battery backup with voltages regulated to within plus or minimum 0.1 percent for incoming line voltages between 105 and 125 VAC. f. Battery: Provide battery to hold assigned patch in case of AC power failure. g. Accessories: For each control console, provide a heavy duty vinyl cover. h. Control Receptacle Station: Provide 2 receptacle stations, 1 at the stage and 1 in the projection or control booth. E. Connector Strips: 1. Wireway connector strip shall consist of a 18 gage steel channel, 4 inches x 4 inches in cross section with removable cover for access to wiring, labeled for circuit numbers. Each strip shall have a terminal compartment, factory installed at one end of the strip containing molded barrier type terminals for feed connections. The strip shall be provided with heavy steel mounting straps, approximately five feet on center with U-bolts to grip up to 2 inch pipe. 2. Internal wiring shall be rated a 90-C, type S or SO, 18 inch pig tails, secured by strain reliefs and shall be furnished with three pole grounded type female receptacles. 3. Provide 4 connector strips, each 30 feet long. 4. For cable rigging accessories, feed each strip from a gridiron box, and cable support cradle and Kellemm grips. 5. Connector strips shall be manufactured and furnished by the same selected agent as the dimming system Project No. SPECIFICATION GUIDELINES

11 manufacturer. F. Stage Outlet Boxes: 1. Outlet boxes shall be surface mounted and fabricated from code required gage steel. Standard box size is 12" W x 6" H x 5" D with four mounting holes. Flush mount face plate is 13" W x 7" H with 3 circuits. Outlets are three hole grounded, 20 AMP. Circuits shall be labeled with 1 inch black letters on yellow background. 2. Total of 2, located on backstage side of proscenium wall, (one on each side of the stage). PART 3 EXECUTION 3.01 INSPECTION A. Do not proceed with the work of this section until conditions detrimental to the proper and timely completion of the work have been corrected in an acceptable manner INSTALLATION A. Install lighting control console system according to manufacturer's published instructions and accepted Shop Drawings FIELD QUALITY CONTROL A.
