3 Atlas Copco Drilling Accessories Water swivels A water swivel connects the pressure hose from the flush pump to the rotation drill string. The water swivel has two individually sealed and lubrication-free radial ball bearings and one stationary as well as one rotation sealing. Undo lock screw (23). 2. Undo the bearing housing (10) from the stuffing box (5), note the LH-thread). 3. When the bearing housing and stuffing box are parted, the bearing (25) could either be find in the stuffing box (5) or still on the spindle (13). 4. Remove the bearing from spindle (13) or from the stuffing box. If the spindle is damaged, it should be exchange not to damage the the new V-packings (7). Note, the spindle is RH-threaded. 5. Remove the collar support (16) from the stuffing box (5). 6. Replace the V-packing (7, 4 pcs) in the stuffing box. 7. Check rubber ring (11) and packing support (12) for wear or damage. Replace if necessary. 4

Remove the bearing (24) from drill rod connection (7) or from the bearing housing. If the spindle (13) is damaged, it should be exchange not to damage the the new V-packings (11). Note, the spindle is RH-threaded. 5. Remove the V-packing support (9) from the stuffing box (5). 6. Replace the V-packing (11, 4 pcs) in the stuffing box. 7. Check rubber ring (12) and packing support (10) for wear or damage. Replace if necessary. 5

Adjustment of the seals is not necessary. The ball bearings are sealed and embedded in grease, thus they do not require lubricating. Replacement of bearing and seals 1. Remove the circlip (8) then remove the bearing housing (1). 2. Unthread the rotary seal (3) from the coupling (4). NB: The parts are left-hand threaded 3. The ball bearings (7) can now be removed. 4. Remove the nipple (6). The seal (2) can now be removed by pressing it out with a screwdriver. Both seals (2 and 3) must be replaced simultaneously

8 Atlas Copco Drilling Accessories Core Boxes Introduction The heavy duty, but lightweight, core boxes are designed for the storage and transport of core samples. This unique range of core boxes is manufactured from high grade moulded polypropylen. Four sizes of core boxes are available. These boxes have been used successfully around the world even in extreme climatic conditions, with temperatures ranging from +50 to -35 C. Advantages The rigid channel design will prevent the movement of core samples during transport, and the surface finish enables stamping or printing for core identification. The core box may be used with or without the lid, which clips on. If additional security is required, provision has been made for the use of lead seals. The boxes will nest together when empty and stack when full, even without using the lids (except on the 102 size). This offers major benefits in reduced storage and transport costs. The boxes, because of their length, can be handled by just one operator, and are ideal where transport or access are difficult. The dimension of channels make the core boxes suitable for many different core barrels sizes (see Selection of suitable core barrels sizes on page 9). 8

13 Atlas Copco Drilling Accessories Fishing tools Introduction Atlas Copco Craelius high quality, heat treated recovery taps (inside) and recovery bell taps (outside) covering most sizes of drill rods, casing tubes, core barrels, bits and reaming shells in metric or american standard sizes. A recovery tap will catch tubular object from the inside. A recovery bell tap will catch it from the outside and is thus recommended when an item of relatively small diameter is lost in a large diameter drill hole. In order to choose the correct fishing tool, please concider the examples with figures 1 and 2 below. Recovery tap for steel drill rods Recovery tap for aluminium drill rods Recovery bell tap Example 1 The recovery tap must have a working range (30-42 mm in this example) which covers the I.D. of the rod (34.9 mm in this example). The type of thread connection chosen (CR42) should be the same as that of the fishing rod string. Choose right-hand or left-hand thread ( or ). Example 2 The recovery bell tap must have a working range (54-69 mm in this example) which covers the O.D. of the tube or rod (66.7 mm in this example). The O.D. of the bell tap should be the largest available but should not exceed the hole diameter. Choose Right-hand threaded taps or bell taps are intended to pull out the complete string from the hole. 15 Atlas Copco Drilling Accessories Hoisting swivel and wire ropes Introduction Atlas Copco Craelius hoisting swivel is used for lifting the drill string. The shackle is normally attached to the wire rope via a safety hook. Its role is to prevent the wire from coiling. A large choice of subs allow the use of various rod dimensions. To lock the free end to the safety hook schackle, a wire lock is used. For wireline drilling, the drill is equipped with an additional wireline hoist, which emplys a thinner and longer wire rope to be attached to the overshot assembly.
