1 TEXAS-SPEED.COM 2016 Camaro Header Installation Tools 8mm Socket 11mm Socket 5/8 Spark Plug Socket T15, T35 Torx Bit 5mm Allen Bit 10mm Socket and Wrench 11mm Socket and Wrench 3/8 Drive Ratchet, Torque Wrench, Extensions 7/8 or 22mm Oxygen Sensor Socket/Wrench Reciprocating saw/handheld Bandsaw/Hacksaw Zip Ties for secure wiring TEXAS SPEED & PERFORMANCE TEXAS-SPEED.COM
2 Disassembly Procedure 1. Remove negative battery cable from battery. 10mm Socket and Wrench 2. Remove induction system and connecting hoses. Flat top Screwdriver 3. Remove engine trim covers. 4. Loosen coolant surge tank 10mm nuts. a. Hoses may be removed for more access. (drain coolant if necessary) 5. Remove dipstick tube bolt. 10mm a. May need to remove battery cable on starter for removal. (Clearance is tight) 6. Remove plug wires and spark plugs. 5/8 spark plug socket and short extension Under Car 1. Pre-lubricate all exhaust bolts/nuts/hangers/o2 sensors. 2. Remove plastic trim on right and left of lower K-member. 10mm and T15 3. Remove K-member support brace and set aside. 15mm (4 long bolts, 8 short bolts, 2 nuts) 4. Remove O2 sensors. 7/8 or 22mm 5. Remove tunnel brace. 13mm 6. Exhaust system can be modified on car if desired, but removal is an option. a. If full exhaust is removed, unplug exhaust electric baffles/diverters on axle-back. (auto has 4 valves, manual has 2 vales) *If header connection pipes are used with the OEM exhaust, the exhaust will be cut in a more forward location. TEXAS SPEED & PERFORMANCE TEXAS-SPEED.COM
3 TSP 3 X-Pipe Version Mark exhaust pipe 2 ¼ in front of factory x-pipe welds. This is where the TSP mid-pipe will connect. Stock X-Pipe Version 1. Mark exhaust pipe 1 ¾ in front of 90 exhaust bend on left and right sides. 2. Remove cat flange connection to OEM exhaust. 15mm 3. Modify OEM mid-pipes to mate TSP exhaust. a. Cutting is required on the proper marked pipes. 4. Clean up cutting burrs on exhaust with file or dremel. 5. Remove steering shaft. 11mm x2 6. Remove factory cats. 15mm Under the Hood 1. Remove all exhaust manifold bolts and then remove exhaust manifold through bottom of car 13mm *The OEM manifold heat shields may be removed for additional clearance 10mm TEXAS SPEED & PERFORMANCE TEXAS-SPEED.COM
4 Under the Hood (cont.) 2. All non-reused exhaust should be removed at this point. 3. Clean cylinder gasket area if required 4. Install left front O2 sensor extension 5. Install rear O2 extensions, route and secure, if utilized. 6. Factory axle-back may be installed if previously removed. Reassembly Procedure 1. If headers are installed from bottom, move interfering items such as starter (head shield) or steering shaft. *Headers can be installed without moving engine or disrupting mounts. 2. Under Car: Install headers from bottom, using care not to cut any wires or break anything. 3. Under Hood: Bolt headers to cylinder head using stock gaskets and bolts. 13mm *While headers are still loose, re-install dipstick tube, starter cable (if removed) and starter heat shield. 4. Torque header bolts to 22lb feet. 5. Make sure to move, bend and secure any heat shield, cables, and hoses that may come near exhaust. 6. Install front O2 sensors, being sure to connect wiring and secure. 7. Reinstall dipstick bolt 10mm 8. Reinstall spark plugs and wires. TEXAS SPEED & PERFORMANCE TEXAS-SPEED.COM
5 Reassembly Procedure (cont.) 9. Reinstall coolant surge tank, hoses (if removed), engine covers, and trim. 10. Reinstall induction system, and reconnect all engine ventilation tubing. 11. Under Car: Reinstall K-member support plate and remove plastic trim components. 12. Route any wiring away from exhaust and secure with cable ties. 13. Tweak any heat shielding away from exhaust interference. 3 X-Pipe 1. Cut OEM exhaust 2 ¼ in front of OEM X-pipe welds short, straight section in front of X-pipe. 2. Deburr exhaust cuts so that new exhaust can slide easily over OEM exhaust. 3. Install stock axle-back back into exhaust hangers if removed. 4. Install short 3 x 12 axle-back connection pipes with 2 ½ band clamps over OEM axle-back. 5. Install new X-pipe section onto axle-back pipes with 3 clamps bent part closest to the body to tuck into tunnel. 6. Install left and right ball-flanged exhaust bends into X-pipe with 3 band clamps and 3 ball-flange clamps. *Loosely install clamps into position and adjust exhaust for best fitment, this may need to be repeated several times as you work from front to rear for best exhaust positioning. 6 3 X-Pipe (cont.) 7. Torque exhaust ball-flange clamps to 25 ft. lbs 13mm 8. Torque exhaust band clamps to ft. lbs 15mm 9. Install rear O2 sensors and connect to rear O2 extensions. (if utilized) *Exhaust may need to be readjusted after warm up cycle or driving due to expansion and settling. More Help & Information Call Monday Friday.
